NO SUCH THING AS A DEAD CERT

Posted on: Thu 21 Jul 2005

According to the proverb there are only two certainties in life - death and taxes - but after this summer perhaps we should be adding a few more to that list, including Tiger winning the Open; Federer winning Wimbledon; All Blacks beating the Lions and the Aussies winning the Ashes (maybe?).

Racing

Well, it's certainly been a summer of favourites so far, and it may be foolish to look beyond Azamour, our hot favourite for this weekend's big race from Newbury - the King George VI and QE Diamond Stakes.

On paper, the favourite looks to have plenty going for him but, on closer inspection, there are doubts about his stamina over Saturday's trip of one mile and a half.  Sure, the likely fast ground will suit him, but he's yet to race this far and, at around the 2/1 mark, he's no racing certainty.

A swallow is a bird that flies quickly, and the Emerald Isles' other challenger, Grey Swallow, could well be living up to his name as he swoops quickly up the home straight to victory.  Stamina is not an issue with this one, who looks to have been laid out for this race by connections and, providing the ground is not too firm, he's sure to take all the beating.  And, at around the 3/1 mark, he's good value too!

Ashes

Let's hope that England are still in with every chance of winning the 1st Test by the time Grey Swallow is flying past the winning post in front on Saturday (around 4.25!).  Michael Vaughan's men are not without hope in the Ashes, but face a tough test after the opening day of play at Lord's - a ground where they have not beaten the Aussies since 1934!  Their best chance of victory may come at the Oval (5thTest) - but it could be too late by then.  One thing's for sure, there will be ten Live In-Play markets to choose from right here with us.

Free £100 Bet Basket

At least there are still some certainties in life - and CarlisleBet's £100 Free Bet Basket is one of them. If you haven't done so already, just take the few minutes it takes to register and, once you've placed your first bet, you'll immediately qualify for a £25 free bet, with another £75 in Free Bets up for grabs later.

And, another certainty, every bet you place will directly benefit the club.
