United manager Greg Abbott spoke to the press on Monday afternoon as he looked back at the win over MK Dons and ahead to the Friday night clash against Colchester United.
He said: "I'm feeling alright at the moment because the team is doing well and have put in another good performance.
"It wasn't a complete performance if I'm honest but it was a good one. We need to keep playing like that when things aren't going for us.
"At the time of our first goal I don't think we were playing as well as we can. We weren't very fluent, we hadn't got our passing game and I don't think we were as on top as we had been in previous game. But when we got the goal we were clinical. That's one of the things we've been asking the players to improve on, to make sure that when we do get opportunities we put them in the back of the net.
"Before the game we had said that it might be one of those games where not everything is going our way and if we get a chance we must make sure we put it in the back of the net. Goals do change games and Saturday was a perfect example of that - once we got the first we looked a really good team. From the first goal onwards there was a spell for about 20-30 minutes where we were fantastic in terms of attacking play. We got four goals and in the end it's a comfortable win but it wasn't that easy along the way.
"We've said all along that we want the burden of goalscoring to be shared by the whole team. Of course, if we get the goals then it doesn't really matter who scores them. If we had a preference it would be the strikers and two of them have scored on Saturday. On top of that, two midfielders have chipped in as well.
"That's something I've really wanted, certainly more from my more forward three midfield players if you include Francois with James and Tom. I want them to chip in with their fair share as it'll take some pressure off the strikers.
"It was a great strike from Francois and he's got decent technical ability like that. We know he's capable of doing that and if anything, he's probably been a bit too unselfish at times. We're trying to encourage him to shoot more and the chance where he smashed it against the post in the second half is the kind of thing we want to see from him, it wasn't a clear chance and he created the opportunity himself.
"He's a hard worker as well and that's maybe not what people would expect from his kind of player. He's certainly not a luxury player. He does his job when he's got the ball and knows he can hurt teams in that situation but he also puts in one hell of a shift when he hasn't got the ball.
"Francois certainly caused his fair share of problems but I don't think we'd have had the success we did if it wasn't for the performances of Craig Curran and Gary Madine. I thought Craig's work rate was fantastic and he really stretched them. I think he's actually helped Gary a bit too as he's reacted to that workrate by pushing himself a bit harder as well. He had a part to play in all four goals on Saturday and it was probably his best game yet in a Carlisle shirt.
"I don't have to curtail any enthusiasm at the moment, I just need to remind the players and fans as to how we've got this far and the hard work we've put in over the summer in the build-up to the season and the last few weeks. We need to make sure people aren't comfortable with where they are as we're in a position where we are there to be shot at. You'll see that over the next few weeks as people will look at our position and raise their game against us.
"They'll get a bit of respect in that sense and teams will be working out a plan of how to beat us, so we will probably have to work even hard to counter that. It's more a case of not getting carried away and looking at the table again in 10 or 12 games time and if we're still near the top then great, it's a good platform for us to do well for the rest of the season.
"We know Colchester are going to be tough to beat on Friday. They're mindful of conceding goals and have had an unbeaten start themselves so far. The onus will be on them to come out and attack being the home side but I know they'll be keen to stop us getting control of the game so we'll have to be aware of that.
"It's another tough game for us. If we keep performing like we have we know we're more than capable of getting a positive result out of it. We want to make sure we put in a professional performance that can set us up for the next home game against Swindon.
"Of course we want to avoid a late goal like we got there last season but that's just because we don't want to lose games. Maybe we were unlucky that time, as we maybe were the other week at Plymouth but we probably got a bit of the rub of the green on Saturday against MK Dons so it works both ways.
"Of course we'd like a few more fans through the gates but so do most teams in this division. You can't bully fans through the door and in fairness, we're still in the summer holidays at the moment. With schools going back in the next couple of weeks things will get back to normal and hopefully if we're still doing well at that stage, I'd expect crowds to pick up a bit more. Everyone's asked for an improved squad, improved football and improved results and we've given them that short term. We need to do it over a longer period but we hope people can back us by coming down and having a look at what we're doing here."
