NOT GETTING CARRIED AWAY

Posted on: Tue 24 Aug 2010

United midfielder James Berrett grabbed his first goal for the club in the 4-1 win over MK Dons at the weekend. We caught up with him afterwards to get his thoughts on the game:

He said: "I don't think I could have asked for things to go much better for me today.

"We've just been watching the results and league table in the dressing room and it gave us all a real buzz to see ourselves top of the league. But it's very early days and we have no intention of getting carried away with how things are going so far.

"The first half an hour or so was pretty scrappy stuff from both sides and if anything they maybe shaded it. But the incident between Hartey and Jermaine Easter definitely changed things. It was a bit of a wake-up call and it got the crowd going which in turn lifted us.

"I think they lost their concentration a bit after that and it was really pleasing that we didn't lose ours. It's a great finish by Francois, he's got that kind of talent and is going to be a real handful to any defence this season.

"I'm really pleased to open my goalscoring account early on in my career with the club. I only managed two goals in my time at Huddersfield but hopefully I can grab a few more than that here.

"I saw Frank pick up the ball and I knew he'd look to pick out Gary in the box. I took a gamble on him flicking the ball down into the six yard box and it couldn't have landed better for me and in the end it was an easy finish.

"At half-time the gaffer told us we'd been sloppy in the first-half but was pleased we'd managed to get a two goal lead. He said to keep on going but not sit back and that's paid off with us getting another two goals.

"We were pretty comfortable after Gary and Tom's goals but were disappointed to concede one as we'd have liked to have kept another clean sheet. They had a lot of possession towards the end of the game but we marshalled them really well and Adam had very few saves to make.

"It's another long journey down on Friday but I'm getting used to them already after Plymouth! To be honest, when you're in a good run of form like we are the journey passes pretty quickly. We all just want to get back out on the pitch and play. Hopefully we can go there and get another good result."
