Manager Greg Abbott spoke to United Player on Friday afternoon about the weekend visit of MK Dons.
He said: "There's a lot of positivity around at the moment and I think that's what we set out to achieve.
"We said at the end of last season that we want to bring the fans completely on board and we want to try and play the type of football that everyone is looking for.
"If you do that and get the performances right then the results tend to follow. We've done that up to now, but it's still early days and we need to make sure that it continues. Football has a way of kicking you in the teeth just as you think you've got there, but we know that and we know we have to keep the work rate up.
"We have MK Dons next and the games against them last season were unbelievable.
"I'd take being 3-0 up in 20 minutes tomorrow, but I wouldn't like to be 4-3 winners in the end because that really put us through the mill.
"I think we won comfortably here in the home game with what was one of our best performances of the season, but I think this will be a tough one tomorrow.
"It's the start of the season and we all want to get off to a good start. It may not be as comfortable as last season but we'll be doing our best to win the game.
"Karl [Robinson] is similar to me with the fact that he's only just started out as a manager and it's a fantastic achievement for him to be doing the job at the age of 29. He'll find out that it's not easy and he'll find out that it's rewarding, and he'll know that there's ups and downs along the way. Let's hope that tomorrow is one part of it that he doesn't enjoy.
"They are a reasonably wealthy club and they have added quite a bit of quality to the squad. I think they're working more within their means now and cutting their cloth accordingly. It'll be a good game against them as they try to play football.
"The contract extensions for the two lads today is us trying to put the club on a good footing. We want the right type of player to commit here and it's been terrific that the club have backed our judgement.
"For Ian [Harte] it's a reward for his great work last season and for the way that he does things around the club, and for Gary [Madine] it's an acknowledgement of how hard he has worked and how much he has improved.
"I'm really pleased that my board have gone with me on this because it means that we are starting to really settle things down in terms of which way we want to go.
"Hartey thinks a lot of the younger players and really tries to bring them on, and Gary is really starting to mature now. The more that happens for him, the better player he will become. Both players bring different qualities and I'm delighted that we have got it all sorted out with them."
