We caught up with United forward Craig Curran this week and got his views ahead of the season opener against Brentford this weekend.
He said: "Pre-season has gone really well for me and I've found it pretty easy to settle in.
"It's been hard work but that's what we expect and we know it's all been building towards that first game of the season.
"This pre-season has been a totally new experience for me, starting at a different club for the first time. It was a bit weird at first but everyone has made it easy for me to settle here, from the players to the coaching staff.
"I know they've got a reputation for mickey taking here in this playing squad but thankfully there are no real introduction rituals or anything like that! The atmosphere in the squad has been brilliant and the banter flies around the dressing room but we all know when it's time to knuckle down and take things seriously.
"The week away in Leicestershire was a big help, especially for me and the new lads. It's timing was perfect as it gave us a week to get to know the rest of the squad after a couple of hard opening weeks of training.
"I'll always give 100% in whatever game I play. Having a high work rate is a big part of my game and it's nice that the fans appreciate that. Hopefully I can improve the rest of my game, including scoring a few more goals this season.
"I've enjoyed playing as more of a central striker in pre-season and I think me and Gary [Madine] have started to get a good understanding in the games we've played together. He's a big lad and the kind of player I like to play alongside. But all the forwards we have at the club are decent and if I get a start then whoever I get to play with, I'm sure we can form a decent partnership.
"We've got some really good young players in the squad but there's also plenty of experience in there too. The likes of Hartey, Kav and Pricey are all a really big help to the younger players and they're always giving us advice and they're a prime example of how to look after yourself as a professional footballer.
"I can't wait for the Brentford game to kick-off now. We're all fighting for our places and I know that I'm certainly not complacent about my own position. We've had some decent results in pre-season but they don't matter now, it's all about that opening game on Saturday and making sure we start the season with three points."
A video interview with Craig will be available later this morning exclusively for United Player subscribers. There is a freeview clip at the top of this page that is available to all fans, in which Craig talks about the experienced players in the squad.
