Welsh forward Jason Price played his part as a second half sub in the 1-0 victory over SPL side Hibernian on Sunday. We caught up with him after the game to get his reaction to the win.
He said: "I thought we played pretty well today and it was good to get a win and clean sheet against good opposition.
"Getting a win to take into the opening game of the season proper is a big boost and it gives us plenty of confidence and belief.
"It was always going to be a tight game as they will have been desperate to impress after their poor result in Europe in midweek. To be honest, the first half was a bit of a stalemate, both sides defended very well and cancelled each other out. We did manage to get behind the defence a few times but they got some excellent last ditch tackles in to keep it at 0-0. It opened up a bit in the second half and I suppose for a pre-season game the fans will have found it fairly entertaining.
"Francois had an excellent game and caused them all kinds of problems. He might not quite be there with the language barrier off the pitch yet but on it he's really impressing. He's a big lad with plenty of strength and even though he might not look it, there's quite a bit of pace there. When you play the ball to him you know it's going to stick and I'm sure he's going to be a big asset to us this season.
"I enjoyed my run out in the second half and I'd like to think I caused the Hibs defence a few problems. I even showed a good burst of pace down the left after a good ball by Murph, you might not see that quite as often from me this season, I'll have to pick and choose the times to use it!
"It really doesn't surprise me that Hartey got the winner and I'm sure he's going to carry on this season like he finished the last. James [Berrett] had actually taken a similar corner to that just before the goal which I went for at the near post but my marker did well to track me. When the next corner was given, Hartey had a word and told me to pull back, which I did and it gave him the space to run into and score, so I'm going to take a bit of credit for that one!
"The whole pre-season campaign has been a good one and I think we've played some decent football. Even in the 3-0 defeat to Newcastle, I felt we were the better side in the first half and just out done after the break by a couple of very quick wingers who will worry even the best defences in the Premier League next season.
"I don't mind the fact that there's plenty of competition for my position, I actually prefer it that way. It keeps me and the rest of the forwards on our toes as we know the gaffer has plenty of options if someone isn't performing. The other important thing is that we all offer something a bit different, which means we've got the option to play a number of different styles and formations this season.
"The focus of pre-season has always been towards being ready for that opening game against Brentford. Of course I want to start against Brentford but as I've said, there's tough competition for a forward starting role. In fact, there's good competition in every position.
"I'm looking forward to the challenge and whoever the manager picks on Saturday, I'm sure we have enough quality to beat Brentford."
