Manager Greg Abbott spoke to us after the Darlington victory on Friday night.
He said: "This was a good way for us to round off the week that we had.
"We worked the lads hard, kept them away from outside influences and I think they've appreciated the way that we planned things out for them.
"It's been about building up fitness levels even further and about working on shape, both attacking and defending.
"The best way for us to round all of that off was with a competitive game against good opposition, and Darlington provided that for us.
"I was pleased to see that we were comfortable for long periods. Darlington have some good players but we controlled the pace of the game for the most part, and that is very encouraging.
"It was never really in doubt that Ian Harte would finish the penalty, because he has that ability. Francoise [Zoko] has worked hard, running the channels, and when you are doing that you are always making the defender make a decision.
"It was very good to see the two young strikers get on the score sheet. They both know what I want from them and if they keep working hard then they will get their reward. We've just had a laugh and a joke with Bowman and Cook, because we have been telling them where they can improve, and they've put some of that into practice tonight.
"I've told Ryan that you can't buy that quality of finish. Well, you can, but it costs a heck of a lot of money, so if he can build on that and imporve the other areas of the game that we are talking to him about, then he can only get better for it.
"We've been really pleased with the pre-season schedule so far. Things step up again next week with games against Falkirk and Middlesbrough and a good home game against Hibs next Sunday.
"We really are starting to focus on what will be an important opening week of the season because we have some tough games coming up.
"The lads are exactly where I would want them to be at this stage, so it's now a case of fine tuning things so that we are as ready as we can be when we kick off against Brentford."
