United manager Greg Abbott has spent part of the weekend discussing trial pair Francoise Zoko and Kevin Long with his senior management staff and is expected to make a decision on the duo early this week.
Zoko, 26, an Ivory Coast U23 international joined the Cumbrians at the beginning of July and has enjoyed an extended spell with the club.
Burnley defender Long, 19, teamed up with the squad for their pre-season training camp in Leicestershire at the beginning of last week and started at the heart of the defence in the 3-0 Friday evening victory over Darlington.
Abbott said: "Francoise has done really well and that's why we have kept him with us for so long.
"He has given us plenty to think about as he brought something a little bit different to what we already had."
On Long, he added: "Kevin trained well and he had a good game on Friday night. Overall all of the trial players that have come into the club this summer have made things hard for us, and that's all you can ask for from these lads.
"We now have plenty of thinking to do about these two lads and we'll let everyone know the decision once it's been made."
