Referee - Mr Eddie Ilderton (Tyne & Wear)

1451 - Tough second half for United as Newcastle stepped up a gear and showed a bit more class with a younger looking line-up. A decent test though and lots of encouraging signs in the first-half. United are off to a training camp in Leicestershire next week before a game at Darlington next Friday night. I'll be back two weeks tomorrow for the friendly against Hibernian, with a 2pm kick-off.

FULL-TIME - Carlisle United 0 Newcastle United 3

89 min - Good play by Zoko down the right sees the Ivorian forward win a corner for United. Gibson takes it and Krul comes but gets nowhere near the ball but Berrett can only slice his shot well over the bar.

86 min - Chance for Best as he gets on the end of a Ryan Taylor cross but he heads well wide of Caig's goal.

85 min - Final change for United as Ian Harte comes off and second year YTS Steve Swinglehurst comes on.

84 min - Odd decision by Mr Ilderton there as he gives a corner despite a clear push on Robson as he watched the ball out. Harte lets him know what he thinks about that decision and luckily the corner comes to nothing.

82 min - Seems I forgot to point out that M'Voto came off a few mins ago for Nick Wood. Too many substitutions, bring on August 7 and 3 changes each!

81 min - Taylor is coming off and in his place is Jeff Henderson.

80 min - Looks like Taylor may have to come off with an arm injury. The corner from Gibson comes in but it's easily cleared by the Newcastle defence.

79 min - A good right-wing cross by Tony Kane forces Steve Taylor to put the ball behind for a corner which Gibson will take.

77 min - Vuckic makes a break from midfield and hits a low left foot shot that Caig does well to hold on to.

75 min - United haven't kept the ball anywhere near as well in the second half while playing more of a 4-4-2 formation but in fairness, Newcastle have looked a lot sharper since the break.

74 min - GOAL! Carlisle United 0 Newcastle United 3 - Another goal for Newcastle as Best is given too much time to lay it off for Vuckic, who turns and fires it past Caig.

71 min - Another change for United, as Adam Collin comes off and Tony Caig makes his first appearance for the club in 11 years.

67 min - United make two more changes, with Simek and Murphy coming off for Kane and Gibson. Simek for Kane is a straight swap, while Robson takes Murphy's place at left-back and Gibson goes to left wing.

64 min - GOAL! Carlisle United 0 Newcastle United 2 - This time Ranger does finish his chance, with a clever back heeled finish after Routledge gets to the byline and cuts the ball back to him.

63 min - Chance for Nile Ranger after a good ball by Guthrie but Collin stays big and blocks his shot with his left-foot. The corner from the right is a waste as Harte easily heads it away.

59 min - Good to see Chris Lumsdon at today's game - top lad who still follows the Blues whenever he can!

57 min - Today's attendance is 7,412.

55 min - Better play from United down the right as Cregg finds Hurst. He sends a low cross in to Price which is blocked by Perch and Price has a second chance but he slices his left foot effort over Krul's bar.

50 min - I've finally caught up with all the second half changes by Newcastle and you can see who's playing at the top of the page!

47 min - GOAL! Carlisle United 0 Newcastle United 1 - United are caught napping as a throughball finds Leon Best, who rounds Collin and fires into the back of the net.

46 min - We're back underway! Early chance ofr United as Zoko plays in Price but it's a good block by Steven Taylor and Krul smothers the ball.

1403 - United also making some changing, five in total. See the top of the page for who has come off and on.

1402 - Newcastle look like they're changing almost the entire team for the second half, making my job a pain in the backside! Will try and let you know who is playing for them but it could be difficult!

1401 - Just been correct about that Madine chance towards the end of the first half - it was in fact Tom Taiwo who played a lovely ball through for Gary!

1346 - A decent half of football there, maybe not as high tempo as a league fixture but some very encouraging stuff. United kept the ball very well using the diamond formation and MBW particularly shone. New boys Curran, Berrett and Simek all had decent halves and M'Voto has looked very capable. A downpour has just arrived which could make it a slick surface for the second half. More from me shortly, with no doubt plenty of changes for the second half.

HALF-TIME - Carlisle United 0 Newcastle United 0

41 min - Jose Enrique comes inside from and hits a low left foot shot that's well held by Collin.

40 min - Great chance for United as Berrett wins possession and plays it to MBW. He plays a chip down the middle for Madine, who has made a superb run and he lifts the ball over Harper but it's just over the bar. Unlucky for Gary but deserves credit for a very clever run in the first place.

35 min - Chance for Newcastle as a lofted cross from Smith is headed towards goal by Carroll but it's straight at Adam Collin.

34 min - It's a good one from Harte that's low and would have crept in but for a decent stop by Harper to give United a corner. MBW takes it and finds Harte who sends a superb header towards goal that Enrique knees up onto the cross bar on the far post. A bit more pressure sees Curran unable to direct a header towards goal and then Murphy sends a 25 yard shot well over the bar.

33 min - Alan Smith brings down Berrett 25 yards out and it's a free-kick to United. It's very much Ian Harte territory...

31 min - Newcastle getting a bit more into it and one down the left sees Lualua reach the byline and cut it back to Nolan, but his shot from the edge of the area is a good 20 yards over the bar.

30 min - Another corner to Newcastle, this time on the right after M'Voto stops Lovenkads. Lualua again takes it and he finds Carroll but he heads aimlessly wide.

29 min - Corner to Newcastle on the left which Lualua swings it in and Collin comes for the ball but gets a bit lost and is lucky to see Berrett block a scuffed shot by Nolan. Might have lost that in the wind a bit there but Adam will not be happy with himself there I reckon.

25 min - First chance for a while as Craig Curran picks the ball up 30 yards out and has a shot but it's easily held by Harper. Simek was screaming for the ball on the right so maybe the wrong option by Curran there.

22 min - Game's got a bit scrappy now but neither side are pulling out of the challenges, which is encouraging to see for a pre-season game.

16 min - I wasn't too sure about this diamond formation on Tuesday night at Workington but it's worked a treat so far today as United have dominated possession in these early stages. MBW in particular has stood out, with the Newcastle defence struggling to pick him up.

13 min - Enruiqe has a raid down the left but his cross is turned behind by M'Voto. Lualua takes the corner but it's well headed away by Thirlwell.

10 min - Good play again by United down the left as Murphy and MBW link up well. Murph hits a long cross to the far post which Madine is waiting to head in but Harper does well to claim it this time.

7 min - A dodgy moment for Harper there after Smith sloppily gives the ball away. Murphy pumps a high ball into the box which Madine and Harper go for and the Newcastle keeper spills it and seems to shove over Madine, but referee Eddie Ilderton isn't moved by United fans protests. In fairness, there wans't much of an appeal from Madine.

4 min - United are playing a diamond formation this afternoon with MBW just behind the front two of Curran and Madine. Good bit of football there from United sees Madine try a shot from 20 yards but a block by Williamson takes the sting out of it and Harper claims the ball easily.

1 min - You'd never have guessed it was pouring down this morning... glorious sunshine here at Brunton Park now!

1259 - Due to a few kit problems, United are wearing the red away kit this afternoon. Newcastle meanwhile are in all white. With all the pre-match stuff out of the way, we're now getting underway with Newcastle United kicking off.

1258 - That's a sound I've missed... One Step Beyond belts out over the tannoy and the two teams are out on the pitch. It's not a Football League game so they both run out like they used to do in the days of the Kev Gray charge onto the pitch!

1254 - Typo on the teamsheet causing much amusement in the press box... either that, or Newcastle have a new signing called Danny Futhrie!

1248 - Just received an actual teamsheet and there's a few more subs for Newcastle than we original thought - they've been added to the line-ups above!

1246 - Visitors Newcastle have a pretty strong looking line-up, including the Football League player of the year Kevin Nolan and 19-goal forward Andy Carroll. On the bench is former United loanee Tim Krul, who is sure to get a good reception if he comes on.

1242 - The bench includes Tony Caig, who could make his first appearance for the club in 11 years. Trialists Nick Wood, Patrick Cregg, Billy Gibson and Francois Zoko could all feature at some point in the second half, along with second year YTS Steve Swinglehurst.

1237 - So United's line-up includes Sunderland defender Jean-Yves M'Voto, playing to allow him to check us out and us to check him out. Sean McDaid is rested, with this being his first pre-season when not injured for a while he's being eased in to action.

1230 - Afternoon everyone and welcome to an overcast Brunton Park for today's friendly against Newcastle United. While today is the Geordie's first game of the pre-season campaign, United are already two games into theirs following wins against Kendal Town and Workington Reds. Chris Hughton's side should provide ever so slightly stronger opposition today though! The two line-ups are in and can be found at the top of the page.
