Shamrock Rovers duo Craig Walsh and Gary Shaw have teamed up with United this morning for a trial period as the Cumbrians' pre-season gathers pace.
Centre forward Walsh, 18, was a former Cherry Orchard starlet who came to fame nationally as a contestant on the Sky One television programme 'Football's Next Star', presented by Jamie Redknapp. He joined Shamrock Rovers shorlty after the programme ended and made an immediate impact when he scored on his debut away to Longford Town.
Midfielder Shaw, also 18, has been a regular in the Hoops U20 side and has impressed with his all-action and committed displays.
Manager Greg Abbott said: "We've heard good things about the lads and it will be interesting to see how they get on. We'll take a look at them and we can then take it from there."
Meanwhile 19-year-old former Shrewsbury midfielder Jake Simpson has ended his trial period with the club to pursue other options.
Abbott said: "Jake had a great ten day period with us and he is a decent player, hence the reason for keeping him here for so long.
"It looks like he may have a few other options, and we couldn't guarantee him anything at this moment in time, so he's going off to have a look at those. It's been good to have him here and we wish him all the best."
Meanwhile Patrick Cregg, Billy Gibson, Nick Wood and Francoise Zoko are set to continue with their trial spell at Brunton Park into this weekend.
