2120 - So referee Lee Metcalfe brings to a close what has prove a decent test for United this evening. In dreadful conditions, both sides toiled for long periods but it was trialist Nick Wood who got a late winner. Full reaction to tonight's game will be on the official site over the next few days and I'll be back on Saturday for the visit of Premier League new boys Newcastle United to Brunton Park.
FULL-TIME - Workington 0 Carlisle United 1
88 min - GOAL! Workington 0 Carlisle United 1 - A little cruel on Reds, but United will take it. Corner from the right is taken short by MBW to Cregg, who sends a good cross to the far post where trialist Nick Wood heads it past Taylor.
82 min - Chance for Reds now as a long cross misses one of their attackers and is headed away by Swinglehurst. It goes as far as Gareth Arnison but his right-foot volley flies wide of Gillespie's goal.
80 min - Best chance of the second half for United as a quick free-kick catches out Reds. MBW plays it into Taiwo on the edge of the area but his right-foot drive is well blocked by a Reds defender.
78 min - The game really has got very scrappy now and neither side has had a clear cut chance for ages. Hopper got a great reception from the whole crowd as he came on.
77 min - Reds make a couple of changes now, with McLuckie and Vipond off for Gareth Arnison and Tony Hopper. Meanwhile, United also sneak in another change with Swinglehurst on for McDaid.
75 min - Attendance this evening is 676.
74 min - A few changes for Reds now, with Andy Langford, Callum Ruttledge and Alex White on for David Hewson, Gari Rowntree and Jonny Wright. For United, Graham Kavanagh is on for Peter Murphy.
70 min - Another change for United as Nick Wood comes on for Ian Harte. Corner from the right for United sees Cook rise highest but he can only head the ball wide.
68 min - A change for either side as Mark Gillespie comes on for Adam Collin for United and Rico Colulo on for Conor Tinnion.
64 min - United make another change, with trialist Francois Zoko coming off for Andy Cook.
61 min - Reds almost gift United a goal as Cregg robs May on the edge of the area and sets up Bowman, but he scuffs a very weak shot straight at Taylor.
60 min - Taiwo gets hauled down on the right by Rowntree and it's a free-kick to United. Harte whips it in but it's straight into the arms of a grateful Taylor.
58 min - Good play down the right by Taiwo sees him win a corner for United. MBW takes it but his right-foot outswinger is punched away by Taylor.
56 min - MBW loses possession on the edge of the box and Vipond sets up Aaron Taylor, but his shot is straight at Collin.
55 min - Reds make their first changes of the afternoon and just to confuse us in the press box, they bring on Aaron Taylor (note the "o"!) and Jonny Blake for Matty Tynon and Steve Hindmarch.
53 min - Almost the opener for Reds as Harte tussles with Jonny Wright. The Reds man wins it on the left-hand side of the area and with Collin committed, tries a clever chip but it comes back off the ball and is cleared to safety.
2032 - The two teams are now back out and there are no changes for Reds, but five changes for United - coming on are Taiwo, Thirlwell, Kane, Bridge-Wilkinson and Bowman, coming off are Gibson, Simpson, Simek, Madine and Berrett. Reds get us underway.
2019 - So it's all square at half-time as both teams go in to the relative warmth of the changing rooms at Borough Park. In fairness to both sides, they've tried to get the ball down and play football in very tough conditions. United have probably had the better of the chances but Collin has still had a few saves to make. I'm off for some food to warm me up, back soon for the second half with United likel to make a number of changes after the break.
HALF-TIME - Workington 0 Carlisle United 0
42 min - He's had a quite game so far but Simpson has just put in the best ball of the game, a right-wing cross that finds Madine whose header down is turned over the bar by Taylor. The corner from Simpson comes out to the edge of the box where Harte sends a half volley just over the bar.
39 min - United gain a couple of corners in quick succession but the Reds defence stands firm and clears them both easily.
38 min - Good build-up play from Cregg and Berrett sets up Zoko but his left-foot shot is deflected behind for a corner. The corner is taken short and comes to nothing.
35 min - Big chance for United as Madine flicks the ball through for Zoko who's about to pull the trigger only for May to put in a superb last ditch tackle.
30 min - Free-kick to Reds about 25 yards out again, this time after a high foot on Conor Tinnion. Jonny Wright hits it after a lay-off and Collin is forced into a smart save, with Tinnion shadowing the ball out for a corner. The corner comes in but is then headed well wide.
25 min - The resulting corner sees Collin come and punch the ball to safety.
24 min - Free-kick to Reds after Murphy handles the ball 25 yards out. Vipond takes it and this time his free-kick takes a big deflection off the wall that totally wrongfoots Collin but he's relieved to see the ball go just wide.
23 min - Getting a bit scrappy out there but United have just had another chance, with Gibson cutting inside from the left and hitting a right-foot shot that goes straight into Taylor's arms.
17 min - Some smart control from Zoko sees him lay the ball off for Simek. His diagonal ball finds Madine who brings it down for Berrett, but he slices the ball well wide of Taylor's left hand post.
14 min - Corner from United on the right is taken by Simpson and makes it into the area and after a bit of a scramble is cleared by Kyle May.
12 min - Quick free-kick from Reds almost catches United out as the ball finds Vipond who curls a shot from 25 yards that goes just wide of Collin's left-hand post.
9 min - Reds are on the attack but some good defensive play from McDaid sets United away on the counter. Within a few passes the ball is with Madine who cuts inside before hitting a shot that goes straight into the arms of Reds keeper Taylor.
6 min - First real chance for United as Madine heads down a cross to Berrett who tries to get a volley in on goal but scoops it well over the bar.
2 min - Early chance for Reds after a handball by James Berrett about 25 yards out. Gari Rowntree takes it but he smacks the ball straight into the wall. The ball is eventually played into the box where McLuckie sees his header easily saved by Adam Collin.
1931 - Ok, so all the pre-match pleasantries are over and we're set to get underway. United will be kicking us off, attacking the Town End in the first-half.
1928 - The two teams are now out on the pitch doing their last few pre-match warm-ups and stretches before kick-off. All the fans are crowded under the few covered areas here at Borough Park, bar a few hard souls standing out in the open on the Derwent End.
1926 - Again, apologies for the lack of pre-match updates but the conditions are shocking and it's very cramped in the tiny press box here at Borough Park. Just waiting for the two teams to come out now and there's no sign of this rain easing off.
1916 - Team news for the Reds side is now in, with plenty of ex-United players in their line-up as usual. One of the more interesting inclusions is Tony Hopper, who will make a brief appearance at the end of the game before retiring from football. He made his debut way back in 1992 for The Blues and made over 100 appearances in two spells at Brunton Park. After leaving United he joined Reds after a brief spell with Barrow, making over 250 appearances at Borough Park before deciding to call it a day this summer to spend more time with his kids. I'm sure he'll get a great reception from both sets of fans today.
1911- Bit of team news, Jason Price had been due to start this evening but was withdrawn in place of Gary Madine due to a slight knock to his calf. With it being a pre-season game, Greg has decided it's not worth the risk. He is however expected to be fit in time for Saturday's game against Newcastle United.
1904 - Speaking of Greg, the United boss spoke to the press yesterday afternoon ahead of this evening's game against Reds - to read more, click here.
1857 - Still waiting for the Reds team sheet here in a very cramped press box at Borough Park. United manager Greg Abbott is sat next to me, waiting to take in the action from the stands for the first half from a slightly elevated view.
1849 - Evening everyone and welcome to Borough Park for the first minute by minute of the 2010 pre-season campaign! After opening up the friendly fixtures with a 4-1 win in south Cumbria at Kendal on Friday night, it's now a trip down the west Cumbria coast for Greg Abbott's side to take on Blue Square North side Workington. Some of the United team news is in and can be found as usual at the top of the page.
