Former-Owls central defender Nick Wood will join Patrick Cregg, Billy Gibson, Jake Simpson and Francoise Zoko as part of a five-man trial contingent as United face Workington in their second pre-season friendly of the summer tonight (kick off 7-30pm).

Wood, 19, younger brother of Wednesday centre-half Richard, came through the Academy at Hillsborough but was made available at the end of last season.

He teamed up with the Cumbrians' squad yesterday and is set to feature at some point during the game this evening.

Manager Greg Abbott said: "We've said before, this period provides an ideal opportunity for us to bring players in and have a look at them.

"The four we had last week will get another opportunity to play against Workington, and Nick will also be involved so that we can have a look at what he can do."
