LOAN STAR RETURNS TO CUMBRIA

Posted on: Mon 11 Oct 2010

Forward Jason Price has signed a one-year deal with United today as Greg Abbott continues to shape his squad for the 2010/11 season.

Welshman Price, who made 9 appearances and scored 4 goals in a loan spell at Brunton Park towards the end of last season, has agreed a return to Cumbria on a permanent basis.

He began his career at Swansea City where he was a part of the side that won the Third Division title in 2000. After spells at Brentford and Tranmere Rovers, he joined Hull City in 2003 where he won promotion from League Two to the Championship in consecutive seasons.

A move back to League One with Doncaster in 2006 led to a Football League Trophy win in 2007 as well as a play-off final victory over Leeds United in 2008. The following season he moved south to Millwall. Last season he had loan spells with both United and Oldham Athletic and now returns to Cumbria looking to continue the impact he made in his temporary spell.

United manager Greg Abbott said: "We've got a few young forwards at the club already so getting Jason on board brings us a bit of experience that those players can learn from.

"His record during his loan spell last season was excellent and Gary Madine certainly benefited from playing alongside him. His record at this level is very good and hopefully he can continue that with us next season."

Speaking after completing his move earlier today, Price said: "It's great to get the move sorted before pre-season training starts and I can't wait for the season to start now.

"I really enjoyed my time here last season so I didn't take much convincing. I enjoy the way the manager works and I linked up well with Gary Madine last season. Hopefully I can pass on a bit of my experience on to him and the other young forwards at the club next season.

"Last season I didn't get sorted out with a deal at Millwall until quite late on so to get it sorted now means I can relax a bit more. I'm off for a short break tomorrow so I can relax now and have a pina colada with an umbrella and a cherry on top!"
