NO FURTHER ACTION

Posted on: Thu 10 Jun 2010

Carlisle United Football Club have today received confirmation that no further action will be taken by the FA following an investigation into the pitch encroachment that took place at the end of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy area final against Leeds United at Brunton Park on Tuesday 9 February.

The Football Association acknowledged the comments made by the club in relation to the incident and made particular note of the fact that Carlisle United intend to continue to try to identify individuals who may have entered the field of play on that evening.

However, the club have been advised that the FA may have to consider disciplinary action against Carlisle United if further reports of spectator misconduct should be received and that this matter would be considered again during any future investigation.

Carlisle United Football Club will continue to urge our fans to support the Football League 'Enjoy the Match' message.

Media officer Andy Hall said: "The Enjoy the Match campaign has been very successful for the Football League and we think that it carries an important message.

"In this case in particular, we acknowledged immediately that a pitch encroachment took place and we explained how and why we reacted in the way that we did as an organisation on the night.

"That explanation has been accepted, but we have to be clear that we all now have a responsibility to show that Carlisle United Football Club is about creating an atmosphere where fans can support their team and where safety and enjoyment is paramount.

"As a club, we also have a responsibility to continue to try to identify those individuals who ran onto the playing surface that night. If anyone does have any information that can assist us then it will be gratefully received."
