United - Collin, Raven, Keogh, Harte, Horwood, Clayton, Thirlwell, Taiwo, Marshall (Dobie 68), Price (Bowman 79), Madine. Subs - Pidgeley, Bridge-Wilkinson, Aldred, Kane, Swinglehurst.
Walsall - Gilmartin, Weston, Smith, Jones (Till 83), Deeney, Taundry, Vincent, Richards, Gray, Byfield, McDonald (Hughes 46). Subs - Ince, Bradley, O'Keefe, Westlake, Till, Grigg.
1654 - So that's it for League One football this season at Brunton Park, as United and Walsall play out a fairly entertaining score draw that leaves them both fairly satisfied. The players are now clapping all three stands and getting a generous and deserved applause back. That's it for me this season, thanks for following the min by min reports this year and I'll see you in July for the pre-season friendlies, starting with Newcastle United on July 17th!
FULL-TIME - Carlisle United 1 Walsall 1
90 min - A high cross from the left by Horwood sees Dobie get a header on it but it's a tough chance and easily claimed by Gilmartin. The fourth official has indicated there will be a minimum of one minute added time at the end of the game.
88 min - The game has finally started to look like an end of season match, neither side really throwing everything into it now. Most of the game though has been pretty decent to watch.
87 min - Not sure why, but there's another bit of handbags between Keogh and Gray, with both players getting booked.
85 min - Soft free-kick to Walsall after a foul by Keogh on Byfield. Richards whips in a cross that goes across the six yard box and forces Keogh to head the ball behind for a corner. From the corner, Till heads it back across goal and Hughes stretches but he can only scoop it out for a goal kick.
83 min - Walsall make their second change, with Peter Till coming on for Steve Jones.
82 min - Good play by Dobie on the right wins another corner for United. It's a good corner as well from Clayton and it finds Madine at the near post who gets a flick onto it but it flies wide of the far post.
80 min - Free-kick for United sees Harte whip it in and Keogh dive for a header but he gets a boot in the face as it's cleared to safety. Looks like he might need attention but once Dolly's on the pitch he's fine!
79 min - United make their second change, with Ryan Bowman coming on and goalscorer Jason Price coming off. Another great round of applause for Price, will that be his last appearance at Brunton Park for United? We'll have to wait and see!
76 min - Rare chance for Walsall as Julian Gray gets to the byline and chips a cross to the far post where Matt Richards heads the ball miles over the bar.
75 min - Despite slipping on his backside, somehow Evan Horwood managed to win a corner off Weston there. Clayton takes a right-footed inswinger that sees Price win the header at the near post but he can only flick it over the crossbar.
73 min - Madine uses his strength to hold the ball up inside the box before turning and hitting a shot just over the bar. He's had a good game today has Gary. Think we might be seeing Ryan Bowman come on soon as he's just been asked to go out and warm up by Kav.
71 min - Price is having a real battle with Smith today and again he wins the ball off the Walsall defender and gives it to Clayton who sets Horwood away down the left. He plays it to Price who lays it off for him to hit a shot that goes wide of goal. Still waiting for his first strike for United is Evan.
70 min - The corner from Clayton ends up back with Horwood who lofts it in for Keogh to flick back across goal and a bit of a scramble ensues before Walsall clear the ball into the United half.
69 min - Free-kick to United about 25 yards out on the left-hand edge of the box. Harte takes a quick one but it's poor and hits the wall. But it eventually comes to Dobie on the right and he wins a corner off Vincent.
68 min - United can now make that change, with Ben Marshall coming off for Scott Dobie. Good reception for Marshall in the last game at Brunton Park of his loan spell.
67 min - Actually, scrap that, Marshall is still hobbling and Scott Dobie is getting ready to come on in his place I'd imagine.
66 min - Marshall picks up the ball on the edge of the centre circle and runs forward before hitting a left-foot shot that goes well wide of Gilmartin's goal. Probably should have passed there, though at least he's moving a bit more freely now.
64 min - Clayton's inswinging corner finds Keogh but he can only head wide under pressure from a Walsall defender. Incidently, Marshall is still hobbling a lot from that foul by Vincent, who wasn't even given a booking for it.
63 min - Cynical foul on Marshall by Vincent gives United a free-kick on the right-wing. Harte comes over and hits a low one that comes to Madine who lays it off for Taiwo to hit a shot that he scuffs to Price, who lays it to Keogh who eventually hits a shot that's blocked and goes over the bar. Bit of mad goalmouth action there!
61 min - Marshall does superbly to keep it in play on the right after being shoved by Vincent near the corner flag. He cuts back and hits a left-foot cross that finds Price but he can't get it out of his feet and it's cleared by the Walsall defence. Meanwhile, up the other end Byfield is allowed to advance towards goal unchallenged and he hits a low shot that bobbles up in front of Collin, who gathers at the second attempt.
59 min - A high looping cross from the left by Horwood is about to land perfectly for Madine to nod it in but Hughes does superbly to get something on it and the ball diverts out of the path of Madine and away to the far wing.
58 min - Walsall are probably edging it on chances so far in this second half but United are getting back into it now and starting to get some good possession.
52 min - Today's attendance is 5,114. Almost a second goal for Walsall as a low cross from the left has Collin scrambling but he does just about enough to put off the Walsall attacker and Horwood cleverly flicks it behind for a corner. The corner itself is easily cleared by the United defence.
51 min - Byfield has it just inside the area and lays it off to Taundry on the edge of box in space, who hits a low shot that flies just wide of Collin's right hand post.
50 min - Bit of a to-do here between Price and Smith, over seemingly nothing (missed the actual incident as I was having a quick peep at the League One scores). Bit of pushing and shoving and the ref has a word and surprisingly, only books Price for his role in the incident.
48 min - Byfield is away down the left but this time there's no offside flag. He hits a low cross that misses everyone and comes to Jones on the right who hammers a shot that Thirlwell blocks before clearing down field.
47 min - Steve Jones is clean through down the middle but the linesman's flag is up like a shot for offside.
1606 - Both teams are now back out and Walsall have made a change at half-time, with Clayton McDonald coming off for Mark Hughes. The Saddlers get us underway, with United now attacking the Warwick Road End for the final time this season.
1550 - A shaky start to the half for The Blues actually turned into a half decent performance in the end. While The Saddlers look dangerous on the counter, United look comfortable in possession, with Taiwo and Thirlwell both dominating in central midfield. Up front, Madine and Price are linking up well, with Madine particularly showing some good hold up play as well as playing his part defensively on set pieces. Will be interesting to see how the two sides approach the second half. Back soon for the rest of the action!
HALF-TIME - Carlisle United 1 Walsall 1
45+2 min - Foul by Horwood on Deeney gives Walsall a free-kick on the touchline. Taundry takes it and curls it into the box where Madine stretches out a leg and clears to safety.
45 min - Fourth official has indicated there will be a minimum of two minutes added time at the end of the first half.
44 min - Corner to Walsall after Harte heads behind Taundry's cross from a free-kick. Steve Jones takes a right-footed inswinger that eventually comes to Matt Richards but he pokes it well wide of goal. I think it was either Taundry or Richards who had that "shot" for United that nearly resulted in the own goal before. Happened quickly so I missed it!
43 min - A Walsall player, not sure which, almost scored one of the best own goals you'll ever see. Madine controlled a long ball that fell nicely to the Walsall player, who in an attempt to tackle him, smashed a shot that flew just wide of a surprised Gilmartin's left-hand post. The resulting corner from Clayton found Harte but his header was tame and hits a defender before being booted to safety.
42 min - Corner to Walsall after Horwood scoops the ball behind. Julian Gray takes a left-footed outswinger that several players go for but miss and it comes to Deeney on the right who tries to buy another corner off Marshall but he gets in a great tackle and actually wins a goal kick instead.
40 min - Foul by McDonald on Price gives United a free-kick in the Walsall half on the edge of the centre circle. Harte takes it and his kick sees Madine arriving late to get a foot on the ball but he can only poke it wide.
39 min - Good break down the left by United sees Horwood as a decoy on the overlap, allowing Marshall to cut inside and hit and inswinging cross that Madine gets on the end of but he was stretching to get to it and his header goes well wide.
37 min - United are dominating possession still and Walsall's only breaks forward are coming from the lively Jones on the right. He's almost away down the wing but Horwood does well to win possession before Jones fouls him giving United a free-kick.
35 min - A free-kick from Harte on the right wing sees the ball eventually come to Marshall on the left who sees his cross headed behind by McDonald for a corner. Clayton comes over and takes a right-footed inswinger which is cleared by a Walsall defender.
33 min - From a long Walsall free-kick, Gary Madine wins a defensive header and then before you know it, it's United on the counter attack up the other end. A poor touch from Jones sees Marshall nick the ball and play a one-two with Taiwo before cutting inside and hitting a shot that Gilmartin parries in the air. From the rebound, McDonald does well to head it away under pressure from, of all people, Tom Taiwo!
29 min - GOAL! Carlisle United 1 Walsall 1 - You won't see many better worked goals this weekend. David Raven chips a ball towards the edge of the box where Gary Madine flicks in on for Jason Price, who brings the ball down before drawing out Gilmartin and slotting it into the back of the net.
26 min - Horwood is left exposed on the left as Jones plays it around him before sending in a cross towards the penalty spot that Keogh boots over the bar and out for a corner. Jones takes it and his right-footed outswinger sees Mannie Smith flick it towards Julian Gray who hits a left-foot volley that he slices well wide of Collin's right hand post.
23 min - Lovely bit of interplay between Horwood and Marshall sees the latter send the former away to the byline where he whips in a low cross that Gilmartin does well to claim with Madine sliding in to try and get something on it.
18 min - First corner of the day goes to United as Raven's cross from the right is blocked. Clayton takes it and it's a good one right into the six yard box where Keogh finds himself unmarked but he gets under the ball and heads it well over the bar.
16 min - Deeney tries a half volley from 30 yards out but it flies well wide of Collin's goal. I'd say United have probably had about 80% of the possession but Walsall look very threatening on the counter attack.
14 min - He may have picked up the News and Star's Player of the Season award before the game but that was almost a real howler from Richard Keogh there. He miscontrolled the ball on the edge of the centre circle and gifted possession to Deeney but did superbly to get back and put in two tackles to stop both him and Julian Gray, with the ball eventually going out for a goal kick.
13 min - United are having pretty much all the possession now but are struggling to get past a very solid looking Walsall backline, with McDonald particularly looking very impressive so far.
7 min - Some fans in the Paddock and Main Stand are giving the linesman on this side the bird over the decision not to flag when Byfield was played through for his goal. From what I saw it looked like he just stayed on - tough one to call though.
6 min - The ball's bobbling about about 30 yards out from the Walsall goal as both sides struggle to keep possession before it falls to Madine who turns and hits a left-foot shot that's blocked by Weston and rolls easily into the arms of Gilmartin in the Walsall goal.
4 min - Chance for United as Marshall is fouled on the left wing. Ian Harte whips in a superb ball that McDonald does well to flick away to the far side of the area where another Walsall player clears to safety.
2 min - GOAL! Carlisle United 0 Walsall 1 - If there's one man you don't want to give a chance like that it's Darren Byfield. United try a pretty shoddy attempt at an offside trap and Byfield is played clean through by Deeney. He gets to the edge of the area before hitting a low shot that Collin gets a foot on but it still rolls into the net to give the visitors an early lead.
1 min - An early observation shows that David Raven is playing at right-back today, with Richard Keogh playing alongside Ian Harte at centre-back.
1501 - So the pleasantries are over and it's going to be United to kick us off this afternoon and we'll be attacking the Waterworks End in the first-half. Taiwo and Thirlwell get the game underway!
1500 - Both teams are now out and taking part in the usual pre-match pleasantries.
1458 - Walsall's line-up also features former Man City youngster Clayton McDonald, who was a team-mate at Eastlands of Adam Clayton. He's a big lad is McDonald and I've got a feeling I'll be mentioning his name more than a few times this afternoon!
1454 - For visitors Walsall, there's just one change with Alex Nicholls dropping out of the matchday squad and coming in for him is a man with a real eye for goal, Darren Byfield.
1448 - Sorry for the delay before this post, a few technical glitches! So for United there's three changes, with Adam Clayton, David Raven and Jason Price returning to the starting line-up. Dropping to the bench are Scott Dobie and Marc Bridge-Wilkinson, with Danny Livesey ruled out due to injury. Also coming onto the bench today is youth team captain Steven Swinglehurst.
1433 - Afternoon everyone and welcome to today's end of season, stress-free, nothing to worry about, minute by minute report! Doesn't it feel strange that the season's coming to an end and there's no promotion challenge or relegation worries hanging over the team? Hopefully it'll mean both sides can relax and play some good entertaining football! Team news is in, check the top of the page for the two line-ups.
