MIN BY MIN TEXT ACTION - LEEDS UNITED

Posted on: Tue 13 Apr 2010

Live from Brunton Park, Lee Rooney brings you blow by blow action from today's League One clash against Bristol Rovers. Keep preshing refersh on your browser to read the latest update.

CARLISLE UNITED 1 (Keogh 43) LEEDS UNITED 3 (Becchio 13, 51 Gradel 47) FT

United - Collin, Keogh, Aldred (Raven 64), Harte, Horwood, Dobie (Bowman 81), Thirlwell (Bridge-Wilkinson 60), Clayton, Taiwo, Marshall, Madine. Subs - Pidgeley, Kavanagh, Rothery, Kane.

Leeds - Higgs, Doyle, Naylor, Kilkenny, Becchio, Howson, Hughes, Snodgrass, Bromby, Gradel, Collins. Subs - Ankergren, Beckford, Grella, McSheffrey, Parker, Lowry, Watt.

2318 - A fair scoreline in the end as Leeds dominated chances but truth be told, they were gifted all three of their goals as United switched off far too often at the back. United weren't helped by some perplexing refereeing decisions but at the same time, just weren't at the races. A chance to bounce back comes on Saturday against Oldham Athletic at Brunton Park and I'll be there again for min by min action from 3pm so join me then.

FULL-TIME - Carlisle United 1 Leeds United 3

90+1 min - I think Ben Marshall has just been booked for a "robust" tackle on Bromby. Wasn't helped by the Leeds players rushing around Mr Halsey mind.

90 mins - The fourth official has indicated that there will be a minimum of three minutes added time at the end of the game.

88 min - Leeds make a double change, with Gradel and Becchio coming off for Mike Grella and Jermaine Beckford.

87 min - Ball falls to Clayton on the edge of the box but he shanks his shot from 25 yards well wide.

84 min - Loudest cheer of the night as Mr Halsey finally gives United a free-kick for a blatant handball by Becchio, before following up with another free-kick for United that gets a loud cheer.

82 min - Bowman does well on the right to win the ball and play it to MBW, who lofts in a cross that looks like it's going to Marshall at the far post but is flicked away by a Leeds defender... possibly with a hand? Only the United fans really appeal. It comes to Horwood on the left who hits a superb low cross that is cleared in the six-yard box with Madine almost getting on the end of it.

81 min - United make their third and final change, with Scott Dobie coming off for Ryan Bowman.

77 min - United having a lot of possesion in the Leeds half now and a cross from Horwood finds Madine on the edge of the box and he holds it up before trying to play Keogh in but the United right-back slips just as he's going for it and it's a goal-kick to Leeds.

76 min - Cross from Horwood from the left is headed up in the air by Collins and Madine uses his strength to win the ball but again, Mr Halsey disagrees and it's a free-kick to Leeds. United are seemingly not going to get any of those kind of decisions tonight.

75 min - Becchio goes down like a sack of spuds for approximately the 1,256th time this evening and wins a free-kick. It's long into the box but easily cleared by United.

74 min - Mark Halsey appears to give United a ridiculous advantage on the edge of their own area as Gradel fouls Keogh, and as a result Taiwo is forced to put the ball out for a corner. The corner from Kilkenny is long to the far post where Collins heads well wide.

72 min - Inswinging cross from MBW on the right is high and looping and Madine heads it towards goal where Higgs parries and just gets up in time to claim the loose ball.

71 min - Foul by Horwood on Howson gives Leeds a free-kick on the right wing touchline. It's driven in by Howson but it's a dreadful free-kick and easily cleared by MBW.

69 min - Good play by Marshall down the left as he keeps the ball in play before sending in a cross that sees Dobie crowded out by two defenders but it falls nicely to MBW, but he manages to hit his shot well wide of goal.

67 min - Marshall does well to win possession before a few step-overs near the edge of the area and then he blazes his shot well over the bar.

64 min - United make their second change and it's Tom Aldred coming off and in his place a welcome return for David Raven after 6 months out injured.

62 min - A misplaced pass from Harte allows Leeds to break down the middle and it's Becchio bearing down on goal but Harte manages to get back and block his shot.

60 min - United make their first change with Paul Thirlwell coming off for Marc Bridge-Wilkinson, with the captains armband appearing to go to Evan Horwood. From that throw-in, the ball is played back to Keogh, who whips in a low cross that Higgs spills but somehow it's cleared with Clayton waiting to hammer the ball into the back of the net.

59 min - United win a corner after Dobie's cross is volleyed towards goal by Clayton and tipped around the post by Higgs. The corner from Clayton is headed out for a throw-in on the right-wing.

58 min - United finally start to get hold of the ball and some good passing play sees the ball come to Taiwo on the edge of the box but despite being urged to shoot, elects to chip in a cross that goes straight to Higgs.

56 min - It's far, far too easy for Leeds at the moment as Snodgrass is given time to loft a right-foot cross in from the left that finds Becchio but his header is a comfortable save for Collin.

53 min - United win a corner on the left. Clayton goes over and takes a right-footed inswinger that's high and into the six-yard box but Higgs comes and confidently claims it.

52 min - Tonight's attendance is 8,728.

51 min - GOAL! Carlisle United 1 Leeds United 3 - United are the masters of their own downfall again, as a poor attempt at an offisde trap sees Gradel knock it through to Luciano Becchio, who gets to the edge of the area before firing a low shot under the body of the diving Collin.

47 min - GOAL! Carlisle United 1 Leeds United 2 -  Sloppy from United, who fail to get the ball clear on the edge of the box. It falls nicely for Max Gradel who spreads play out wide to I think Howson, who puts a cross in that finds Gradel who heads past Collin from six yards.

2048 - Both teams are now back out and it looks like there's not going to be any changes. A quick shout out to my mate Matt Evans, a Leeds fan (booo!) who is at the game tonight! Leeds are going to get us underway and United will be attacking the Warwick Road End in the second half.

2033 - Carlisle v Leeds is NEVER boring, is it? The two sides go into the break all square at half-time and if I'm fair, Leeds might be a little aggrieved having dominated possession for much the half. But truth be told, Collin hasn't been directly tested that many times and United have made the most of their brief forays forward. Still plenty to come in this game so don't you dare go anywhere! I'll be back soon with the second half action.

HALF-TIME - Carlisle United 1 Leeds United 1

45 min - Very nearly an equaliser for Leeds as the United defence switches off and Kilkenny lofts a ball in that everyone misses and it comes to Howson, but Keogh does well to put him under pressure and he scoops the ball over the bar. There'll be a minimum of one minute added time at the end of the first-half.

43 min - GOAL! Carlisle United 1 Leeds United 1 - A minute later and Leeds have their first booking as Richard Naylor goes through the back of Gary Madine. Looked a nasty one that. Harte whips in a free-kick and unlike his previous efforts, it's a beauty that finds a charging Richard Keogh who hammers a header into the back of the net. Possibly a bit undeserved but we're not going to complain!

42 min - First booking of the evening goes to United's Adam Clayton, no idea what for as I was busy writing the last update! Suffice to say, the United fans didn't agree with the decision.

41 min - Chance for United as Clayton finds Marshall in spaec down the left. He plays it back for Horwood who dinks in a cross that Higgs can't come for and it's cleared as far as Taiwo but it's too quick for him and his touch is loose, allowing Leeds to clear.

40 min - Free-kick to United on the left after Bromby has a kick at Marshall's ankles. Howson kicks the ball away but luckily for him, Mr Halsey doesn't notice. Harte hits the free-kick long looking for Keogh and Dobie but it's far too close to Higgs who claims it easily.

36 min - Good little passage of play by United sees Clayton dink the ball through for Dobie who tries to flick it around Collins but the big Leeds defender watches it well and gets a block in before clearing into the United half.

33 min - How on earth that did not go in for Leeds I don't know. United lose possession on their right and suddenly Gradel is away down the Leeds left. He does well to get to the byline before cutting in and scuffing a cross along the six-yard box that Kilkenny is waiting to tap in, but despite falling on his backside, Horwood manages to stick a boot out and boot it to safety. Superb clearance by the United left-back.

31 min - Ironic cheers as United get a free-kick after a blatant trip on Keogh as he ran through the Leeds midfield. Harte comes and takes the free-kick about ten yards inside the United half but it's a poor one that goes over everyone and out for a goal kick to Leeds.

26 min - Taiwo finds Keogh in space on the right and the United right-back sends in a cross that Dobie flicks on towards Marshall but it's well watched by Bromby and Higgs comes to claim it.

24 min - Kilkenny takes this corner and finds Leigh Bromby but he heads well wide of Collin's goal. Up the other end and it's almost a defensive mix-up for Leeds as a header back from Naylor forces Higgs to rush out and grab the ball with Clayton bearing down on him.

23 min - The corner comes in from Kilkenny and Naylor is ALL OVER Harte but it's no free-kick and yet another corner to Leeds.

22 min - Up the other end and it's another Leeds free-kick though this one looked the right decision, though Becchio's made the most of Horwood's tackle. Snodgrass takes it and goes for the other corner this time but Collin elects to push it around the post rather than try to catch it. Corner to Leeds.

21 min - After barely having a kick for 20 minutes, United are suddenly getting into the game and all started with one of those surging Keogh runs from the back. Madine was Keogh's target but the United forward sees his shot blocked and then there's cries of handball as Clayton's cross is blocked but Mr Halsey is unmoved.

18 min - Corner to Leeds on the right after Aldred puts the ball out under pressure from Gradel. Kilkenny takes it and finds Bromby and his header down is blocked nad there's a bit of a scramble before somehow, the ball is cleared. It comes back out to the left where Hughes' low cross finds Becchio unmarked at the post but inexplicably. puts it wide from barely 2 yards out.

16 min - Cries of handball as Becchio controls the ball but it's not given and he volleys the ball just wide of Collin's left hand post. Mr Halsey isn't in the United fans good books right now!

15 min - Another odd decision by Mr Halsey, again against Thirlwell (who was pulled up for the "foul" on Howson for the goal) as he appears to fairly tackle Kilkenny but it's another free-kick. This one is lofted in by Snodgrass and finds Howson but his header into the box is easily cleared by Aldred.

13 min - GOAL! Carlisle United 0 Leeds United 1 - First "debatable" decision from Mr Halsey as he awards a free-kick to Leeds about 25 yards out for a foul on Howson, although from here it looked like he'd messed up and had a fresh air shot at the ball. Snodgrass stands over the ball and curls it towards goal where Collin appears to have held onto it, but he spills it as he lands and Becchio reacts quickest to tap into an empty net. Adam won't want to see that one again...

10 min - Another nervous moment for Aldred as he slips while trying to get the ball away from Gradel. The Leeds winger is forced wide though and after lays it back to Snodgrass who boots the ball into the Warwick Road End. Poor effort in the end from a good opportunity.

8 min - A long ball from Leeds sees Aldred slip and almost let Gradel through, but he does superbly to get back and tackle him just as he's about to shoot. From the corner, Kilkenny lofts it in and Collin comes to claim it but it falls out his hands and Naylor heads into the empty net, but Mr Halsey had indicated a foul very early. Looked a good decision up here as Becchio was all over Collin.

7 min - It's been mostly Leeds so far but United now have a chance with a free-kick on the right-wing after a foul on Madine. It's about 10 yards inside the Leeds half and Ian Harte drives it long looking for Madine but he can't quite reach it and Leeds clear the ball to safety.

4 min - Chance for Kilkenny on the edge of the area, but his low volley flies well wide of Collin's right-hand post. Harte complained that there was a high boot in the build up and he may have had a point, but referee Mark Halsey waved away his protests.

2 min - First free-kick of the evening goes to Leeds after Harte brings down Becchio just inside the United half. It's dead central and Kilkenny plays it into the box but it's easily headed away by Horwood.

1946 - So it's going to be United kicking us off this evening and we'll be attacking the Waterworks End in the first-half. Tom Taiwo and Scott Dobie get us underway!

1943 - The two teams are now out on the pitch and the usual pre-match pleasantries are taking place. The atmosphere is pretty good and the Warwick especially is bouncing. In fairness, the Leeds fans are in pretty good voice too, should make for a good contest!

1940 - It's come to that time of the season again when the end of season awards winners need to be picked. You can pick your Player and Goal of the Season. For full details on how you can submit your nominations, which can be returned either in person or by email, can be found by clicking here. There's also information on how you can book to attend the awards ceremony on Sunday 9 May.

1935 - We're not just on twitter as well, United also has it's own official Facebook page. We now have over 4,900 fans and are closing in on the 5,000 mark. Become a fan now by clicking here and you'll get regular updates and be able to have regular discussions with United fans across the world.

1930 - As ever, United kitman and media officer Andy Hall will be providing updates during the game this evening, along with his usual escapades during the week on his twitter page. To follow the action on his page, click here (but remember to follow the action here too!)

1926 - It should be noted, that Mr Halsey received an excellent reception from both sets of fans whilst doing his warm-up before hand. I'm sure he'll be looking forward to get some stick when he gives a dodgy decision during the game though!

1924 - Tonight's referee is Mark Halsey from Lancashire. This is only his fourth game of the season, as he has spent most of the campaign out while battling cancer. Thankfully, he's fit and well again after more than six months out. The last time Mr Halsey refereed a United game was on April Fools Day 2008, when Nottingham Forest were the visitors. It was Forest who were winners that night by a 2-0 scoreline, bringing to an end a club-record 14 home league victories in a row. Taking up assistant referee duties this evening will be Andy Garratt and Bob Roberts, with Billy Khatib in the fourth official role.

1919 - Like United, visitors Leeds make one change from their side that won 2-0 at home to Southend on Saturday. Dropping out his top scorer and former United loanee Jermaine Beckford and taking his place is Argentinian forward Luciano Becchio.

1917 - So there's just one change to the United side from the eleven that started the 2-1 win over Brighton at the weekend. Out due to a hamstring injury is Jason Price, and coming in for his first league start of the season is Gary Madine. Back on the bench after a neck injury is Marc Bridge-Wilkinson.

1915 - Evening all and welcome to tonight's min by min report for the League One fixture against Leeds United. The nine games between the two sides over the last three seasons have been absolute crackers and hopefully tonight will be no different. Team news is in and can be seen at the top of the page.
