INJURY CONCERNS RULE OUT SEVEN

Posted on: Mon 05 Apr 2010

Defender Peter Murphy has been left out of the Bank Holiday fixture at The Valley as he reported discomfort in his knee during the Easter Saturday morning training session.

Murphy, 29, failed to complete the session and was immediately ruled out of the game against Charlton Athletic as a precaution.

Manager Greg Abbott said: "Peter hasn't travelled with us as we want to see if the problem will settle down for him over the weekend.

"It's too early to say what it might be, as Dolly and our medical people still need to look at it properly, but we have our fingers crossed that it is nothing serious."

Meanwhile forward Joe Anyinsah has also been rested as he continues to work his way back to full fitness following his double hernia operation.

Abbott explained: "We always wanted to ease Joe back into things slowly, and that's why we only gave him a limited time last weekend.

"Things are taking a little bit longer to settle than we thought, so we will continue to take our time with him as we monitor his progress."

Left winger Matt Robson has also been sidelined as he continues to nurse a troublesome foot problem that led to his early substitution during the 3-1 victory over Bristol Rovers.

Abbott said: "Matty was struggling with it so we decided to take him off on Friday.

"It still hasn't settled so Dolly will have another look when we get back up to Carlisle this week and we can take it from there. Again, we aren't in a position to discuss timescales yet and we just have to hope that it's short term rather than anything else."

And the problems continued to mount for unlucky Carlisle as midfielder Marc Bridge-Wilkinson was sent home for rest and recuperation as a persistent neck muscle spasm prevented him from taking part in the weekend training sessions.

"It's another one that we can't take a risk with," Abbott told us. "He is resting it now and we hope to see him back with us and ready to go this week."

The Blues will also be without injured trio Danny Livesey (hamstring), Kevan Hurst (knee) and Andy Cook (foot).

Previously ever-present centre back Ian Harte will also miss the game against Charlton as he takes compassionate leave to deal with a serious family issue.
