United captain Paul Thirlwell returned to the starting line-up for Tuesday night's 1-0 win over Yeovil Town. We caught up with him after the game to get his reaction.
He said: "It's a positive result from what was always going to be a difficult game.
"They're a very similar team to us in that before tonight they were level with us in the league on the same number of points and we knew we had no divine right to win the game.
"But in the end I thought we were pretty comfortable throughout the game. We had the best chances and always felt that we could have moved up another gear if we needed to.
"We looked like the only team that was going to score a goal and other than one chance in the first-half, I don't think they really tested Adam much.
"It was just a case of keeping plugging away until we got a goal and in the end it's taken a bit of class from Adam Clayton to get the goal.
"They did put a bit of pressure on us in the last ten minutes by throwing the ball into the box at every opportunity but we dealt with it well and looked pretty comfortable. Getting a clean sheet was a big plus for the whole team as well.
"It's not a case of the lads fighting for a place at Wembley. That's not even in our minds at the moment. Once we get out on the pitch the only focus is on the game in hand and that'll be exactly the same at Southend on Saturday.
"We're paid to do a job and that's what we've done tonight, put in a really good professional performance and picked up another three points. The fans reading the papers tomorrow won't care less if it's a good or bad game, the main thing for them is we've won."
