I HIT IT CLEANLY

Posted on: Wed 17 Mar 2010

Midfielder Adam Clayton spoke to the press on Tuesday night about his stunning second half volley, and first League One goal, that brought a well-deserved victory for the side.

He said: "Finally I have got my first league goal.

"I've been waiting for a few games now and it has come in some style, to be fair. Hopefully I can kick on from this and get a few tap-ins as well.

"I took the touch and it sat up perfectly for the volley. We do that in training, that exact type of thing, where it comes out and you chest it, then volley it. Me and Tony Kane have a bit of banter about who can put most of them in, and he rarely wins. That one just sat up right and I hit it cleanly, and thankfully it went in.

"I enjoyed the game. I thought we played some good stuff but we just couldn't get the break through. When it did come the game settled a bit, but it was still a good game to keep going at.

"It's brilliant playing in midfield with people like Graham Kavanagh and Paul Thirlwell. If I'm out of position then I am quickly shouted at to get back, and I am learning fast. I got a real rollocking off Thirls with about ten minutes to go, but I enjoy it because it is all about learning from these players.

"The dressing room is buzzing now. It has been since I joined the club, and if we win at Southend then we are almost there. That would mean that we could enjoy Wembley and enjoy the rest of the season."
