WON AGAINST THE ODDS
Greg Abbott spoke to us about the 2-1 win over Colchester.
He said: "I don't think we have to talk about character with my team.
"We're getting better with it as we go on. We're getting better people in the dressing room and I like the group I'm working with. This was a magnificent result against a very good side who are difficult to play against, and with that in mind we have got to be very pleased with what we have produced.
"I thought the goal we conceded was a really poor one to give away in terms of it could have been avoided. With a man sent off and that type of goal you do wonder if it's going to be your day. Cometh the hour, cometh the men, and the men produced.
"I thought that Jason Price was terrific. He set up the equaliser and his all round game was excellent. He has fitted in really well, the lads like him, the fans like him, and he is a really good person to have around.
"Sometimes when you get a sending off it can go one of two ways. It can either go against you and you can be easily beaten or it can give you a lift and you make it really hard for the other team. We played some great football in those circumstances against the odds and the players have had a right go, to a man.
"Jason will be the hero but I thought Adam Collin, on the back of a mistake the other night, had a superb game with his handling and with the way he conducted himself. Our central defenders were on top of their game and we defended against players who can be a real handful. I'm really pleased with it all.
"Being sent to the stands has really upset me, to be honest. My dad and all my family were here and all I was doing was waving at them, mostly because of the emotions and the way the game had gone.
"They came last week and they were upset for me then, because of the performance, and I knew they'd be delighted and I was pleased for them. One of the Colchester coaching staff got a bit upset, but I didn't direct anything at their bench. I would never do that. It's very rare that I celebrate goals but we needed the win, we needed the points, we'd had a lad sent off and we were up against the odds, and I was really pleased for my team when we went ahead. The referee has shown a lot of common sense, and when I spoke to him afterwards he told me that he knew what had gone on. It will now take its course, but it should be ok.
"I love what I'm doing and I'm an emotional type of guy, but I never directed anything at any of their bench. That's one thing that I would like to make perfectly clear. Joe Dunne and Aidy Boothroyd know that, and it's disappointing that anything like that should happen, because there probably wasn't any need for it."
