CARLISLE UNITED 2 (Marshall 68, Price 73) COLCHESTER UNITED 1 (Platt 67) FT
United - Collin, Keogh, Livesey, Harte, Horwood, Hurst (Marshall 52), Taiwo (sent-off 42), Kavanagh (Thirlwell 90), Clayton, Robson, Price. Subs - Gillespie, Bridge-Wilkinson, Murphy, Thirlwell, Offiong, Kane.
Colchester - Williams, Okuonghae, Heath, Tierney, White, Odejayi (Platt 62), Henderson (Wordsworth 46), Fox, Lisbie, Prutton, Vincent (Ifil 62). Subs - Cousins, Platt, O'Toole, Ifil, Batth, Gillespie.
1655 - A richly deserved three points for United who were by far the better side even when down to ten men. Jason Price had a debut to remember, picking up the man of the match award after setting up the first and scoring the second United goal. He already looks a good addition. Next up is Yeovil Town at Brunton Park on Tuesday night and I'll be back again for that one, so join me if you can't get down to Brunton Park!
FULL-TIME - Carlisle United 2 Colchester United 1
90+3 min - Colchester have the ball in the net but the whistle had gone long before Prutton's shot went in, for a foul on Horwood.
90 min - United make their second change, with Graham Kavanagh coming off for Paul Thirlwell. The fourth official has indicated there will be a minimum of four minutes added time at the end of the game.
87 min - Colchester are putting pressure on United but can't find a way through at the moment. Jason Price has been given the sponsors man of the match, deservedly so too.
81 min - How on earth has Platt managed to miss that? After the ref misses a blatant handball on the left by Lisbie, the ball is played into the middle where Kav tries to head it away but ends up putting it on a plate for Platt, but he hits a tame effort that Horwood blocks and somehow it trickls straight into Collin's grateful arms.
80 min - Horwood takes a quick throw that White flicks on and out for a corner under pressure from Price. Kav takes the corner short to Robson who plays it back to him. He whips in a dangerous cross that misses everyone and goes just wide of the far post.
78 min - Price does well again down the right as he wins a long punt from Collin, playing in Marshall. Price is held off and Marshall has to go it alone and he gets into the area before smashing a cross that Williams does well to palm away.
74 min - Now it's kicking off on the touchline as one of the Colchester coaches and Greg Abbott are sent to the stands. No idea what for as my view was blocked by the fans in front of me standing up to celebrate Price's goal! Greg seems very unhappy at the decision though.
73 min - GOAL! Carlisle United 2 Colchester United 1 - It's gone crazy at Brunton Park! United take the lead as Marshall's low cross to the near post sees Price sneak in and poke the ball home. Bit of a stinker for Ben Williams that, should never get beaten at your near post but I doubt there's any United fans that care!
72 min - Clayton does brilliantly to keep possession at the byline on the right-wing and wins a corner. Kav's corner is headed away as far as Marshall whose low shot is blocked by Livesey. It comes to Clayton who lofts a cross over that Price feigns to head, laying it off for Robson who takes a touch and smashes a volley over Williams and back off the crossbar.
68 min - GOAL! Carlisle United 1 Colchester United 1 - How's about that for an instant response! Price does very well on the right hand side of the penalty area, beating Tierney before cutting it back to Ben Marshall, who scoops his shot into the top corner past Williams.
67 min - GOAL! Carlisle United 0 Colchester United 1 - You wouldn't know United were down to ten men but they've been out done by a scrappy goal. Lisbie's original shot after a goalmouth scramble deflects off Livesey and falls kindly for Platt, who fires it into the back of the net from six-yards. Collin almost came for it as it fell for Platt but the ball dropped dead and he had no chance.
66 min - Keogh picks up the ball deep in his area and guess what he's going to do? Yep, one of those rampaging runs. He does very well too, getting to the byline before his cross is blocked and goes for a corner. Kav goes over and takes a right-footed outswinger that misses everyone. Robson retrieves it on the left and plays it to Clayton, whose ball over the top is claimed by Williams under pressure from Keogh.
64 min - Prutton smashes a shot towards goal just inside the area that Collin has to parry up in the air and Livesey head behind for a corner under pressure from Platt. Fox takes the corner but it's easy for Collin to claim.
62 min - Colchester make their final two changes, bringing off Ashley Vincent for Phil Ifil, and Kayode Odejayi for Clive Platt.
61 min - Matty Robson is clean through on the left after being played in by Clayton and is blatantly blocked off by White as he knocks the ball past him... shock horror, no free-kick!
57 min - You'll be shocked to hear that the referee Mr Waugh hasn't become any more popular since the break. He penalises Odejayi for a blatant handball but then fails to book him, irking the United fans even more.
52 min - United make their first change and Kevan Hurst, still very groggy from taking that clearance in his face, comes off for Ben Marshall.
50 min - First chance of the half is for Colchester as Wordsworth sends Lisbie away down the left. He cuts inside and curls a shot that Collin can only stand and watch as it goes just wide of his left-hand post.
48 min - Kev Hurst is receiving a bit of treatment after blocking a Tierney clearance by taking the ball full-whack in his face. That one will sting a bit!
47 min - Today's attendance is 4,469, and includes Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn.
1605 - Both teams are now back out on the pitch and The Blues get us underway, kicking towards the Warwick Road End in the second half. Visitors Colchester have made a change at the start of the second-half, taking off Ian Henderson and replacing him with Anthony Wordsworth. I'll try not to make any daffodils and wandering lonely as a cloud puns...
1550 - Well, not a huge amount of chances in that first-half but it certainly came to life in the last ten minutes or so, mainly thanks to some contentious decisions from referee Mr Waugh. Not too much disagreement with the Taiwo red-card, but he's let quite a few fouls by the visitors go by without any punishment (then there's the comical moment where he managed to get Keogh and Taiwo mixed up). He's certainly done one good thing though, galvanising the crowd to back United! More from me shortly.
HALF-TIME - Carlisle United 0 Colchester United 0
45+1 min - Priceis almost in again as Horwood plays him through with a clever pass but he can't get it out of his feet and his attempt to pass to Hurst on the right is intercepted.
45 min - Fourth official has indicated there will be a minimum of three minutes added time at the end of the first-half.
44 min - Mr Waugh isn't endearing himself to the United fans on his first visit to Brunton Park, letting Colchester get away with a lot of shirt pulling and needless fouls. Price tries to challenge for an aerial ball in the penalty box but he's being pulled all over the place by Heath. You'll be surprised to hear Mr Waugh does nothing about it!
42 min - RED CARD - United are down to ten men as Tom Taiwo wins possession but is then robbed again and as Henderson tries to get away he slides in. The ref doesn't hestitate in giving him a second booking. He's been more than a bit card happy so far Mr Waugh, could maybe be a bit more patient.
39 min - The free-kick is taken by Kav, who sends in a cross that Danny Livesey can't quite get on the end of and it's cleared out for a throw-in by White. Bit of a delay now as Keogh is receiving treatment for a head injury.
38 min - Keogh goes on a charging run down the right but is brought down by Ian Henderson who becomes the first Colchester player booked this afternoon.
36 min - Corner again to Colchester and Fox lofts it towards the far edge of the penalty area where Tierney connects with it, striking it cleanly but it's always rising and goes well over the bar in the end.
34 min - Another booking for United, this time it's new boy Price who goes into the referee's book for blocking Williams as he went to kick it out. Didn't look intentional from up here.
30 min - Well you don't see that very often... Tom Taiwo is late with a tackle on a Colchester player, but the ref proceeds to book Keogh! Graham Kavanagh has to point out to him he's got the wrong man and eventually Taiwo is given the booking instead.
28 min - Another chance for Price, as Kav sends in a great cross from the right but the Welshman sees his right-foot volley go wide. His shooting radar isn't quite there yet but he's getting in some good positions already.
25 min - Up the other end now and it's a corner to United after Price's cross is blocked by Heath. Kav goes over and takes a right-footed outswinger that's cleared as far as Hurst, who thumps a shot that is blocked by a Colchester player. The ball falls to Clayton, but he drags his right-foot shot wide of Williams' goal.
23 min - Corner to Colchester on the right is taken by David Fox but the ball goes out of play when he tries to swing it in and it's a goal-kick to United.
18 min - Good pressure from United on the Colchester midfield sees Hurst win possession. He flicks it to Kav who dinks it over the defence to play in Price, who cuts the ball across goal and just wide of the far post. Probably should have scored, but encouraging stuff nonetheless.
17 min - Not the most eventful of games so far but certainly not a dreadful match. Been some good passing moves from United but the Colchester defence is proving tough to break down.
13 min - United have the ball in the back of the net after a neat passing move... but Price was offside as he headed it down for Keogh to finish. No arguments with that decision.
9 min - Corner on the right for Colchester after Harte tackles Odejayi. Fox comes over to take a right-footed outswinger and it's a great delivery but somehow goes through everyone and comes to Tierney on the left but his shot is wild and flies into the Warwick Road End.
5 min - Foul by Okuonghae on Price gives United a free-kick just inside the Colchester half. Harte lofts it to the far side of the area where Keogh gets up and heads across goal but no-one's there to get a touch and it's cleared out for a throw-in by White.
4 min - Smart save by Collin, who stretches to tip over a shot by Kevin Lisbie that took a big deflection. David Fox goes over and takes a right-footed outswinger that Jason Price heads up in the air, Collin comes to claim but gets a shove and it's a free-kick to United.
1 min - Cheeky early effort by Colchester's David Fox, who tries to lob Collin from 40 yards but it's well over and the United keeper had it covered.
1501 - Looks like it's going to be Colchester kicking off and United will be attacking the Waterworks End in the first half. The U's get the game underway...
1458 - The two teams are now out after a nice blast of One Step Beyond over the tannoy and are doing the usual handshakes and pre-match stuff. In addition to the normal photo of the two captains with the officials and mascot, they will have a photo take in front of a "Football for Heroes" banner.
1449 - I appear to have promptly jinxed that moment of good weather - the sun's gone back behind the clouds now! Today's referee is Mr Jock Waugh from South Yorkshire, who is taking charge of a United game for the first time. It's also his first season as a Football League referee.
1445 - Glorious sunshine is currently basking over Brunton Park - you'd not think that it was still technically winter! Today's game is United's nominated "Football for Heroes" game, as part of the Football League's support for it's official charity partner this season, Help for Heroes. For more information on the charity, click here.
1438 - Visitors Colchester feature two ex-United players in their starting line-up - Goalkeeper Ben Williams and left-back Marc Tierney. No sign of Paul Reid, who I believe is injured, and Simon Hackney, who has joined Morecambe on-loan. The U's coaching staff also features former United manager John Ward, who is now assistant to Aidy Boothroyd.
1430 - So as you can see at the top of the page, today's two line-ups are now in. The Blues make one change from the side that lost in midweek to Milwall, with Scott Dobie missing out due to injury. In his place is new signing Jason Price, who has signed on-loan from Millwall until the end of the season.
1426 - Afternoon everyone and welcome to today's min by min report for the game against Colchester United. After teh disappointing defeat to Millwall in midweek, United will be looking to respond with a positive performance this afternoon. There's one new signing in the United line-up and a few familiar faces in the Colchester team and coaching staff.
