GRIND THINGS OUT

Posted on: Sun 07 Mar 2010

Manager Greg Abbott spoke to us about the goalless draw at Wycombe on Saturday.

He said: "It was never going to be an easy game.

"If we'd managed to score it might have settled things down but that didn't happen and it was a very difficult game. They are fighting for their lives and they are going to make it very hard for any side that comes here.

"In that situation you have to grind things out. We've kept another clean sheet and the lads have worked extremely hard, and we've got a point out of it. Sometimes you find that you don't get the type of game that allows flowing football, and that's what we found in this one.

"Like I say, we defended well and when Adam [Collin] was needed he pulled off a fantastic save. It's one that he is really pleased with, and he has a right to be.

"It was a physical game and we are disappointed that an elbow has been used again. Taiwo was playing very well and we have had to make the change because of that challenge. He now has stitiches and it'll be very uncomfortable for him for a few days, but hopefully it'll settle down and he'll be able to push on.

"Obviously we want to play better than we did in this game, but you don't always get your own way. The point that we have taken from this is another step towards the 50 that we have been talking about and it has taken us into the top half. We want to build on where we are now when we get into this run of three home games that is coming up.

"We're very aware of the situation that we're in because of injuries and if we can bring someone in to give us a bit of strength in depth then we will do that. It's not easy though, particularly if you are talking about strikers, but if it's something that we can do then we will."
