CARLISLE UNITED 2 (Harte 40, 52) GILLINGHAM 0 FT
United - Collin, Keogh, Livesey, Harte, Horwood, Hurst (Marshall 81), Clayton, Taiwo (Thirlwell 80), Robson, Dobie, Duffy. Subs - Gillespie, Murphy, Kavanagh, Offiong, Kane.
Gills - Julian, Nutter, Richards, Maher (Oli 62), Palmer (Lewis 62), Jackson, Miller, Dickson (Barcham 62), Jackman, Howe, Dennehy. Subs - Royce, Gowling, Weston, Walker.
1658 - A solid performance from The Blues brings a deserved three points. Gillingham may have played with three forwards but they rarely tested Collin, which is a testament to the defence who earned themselves a clean sheet as a result. None of those defenders will be happier than Ian Harte, who grabbed his 13th and 14th goals of the season. No midweek game for United for the first time in a while this week so the next game is Wycombe Wanderers away next Saturday, with the next home game in ten days time against Millwall. I'll be back then for another min by min report.
FULL-TIME - Carlisle United 2 Gillingham 0
90+4 min - Jackson turns and shoots 20 yards out and it's deflected wide of Collin's post for a corner. Jackman takes it but Livesey heads it away. It comes to Jackman who crosses it in again, Collin coming and getting something on the first ball before getting up to claim the ball.
90+2 min - Corner to United on the right after Marshall wastes a bit of time by the corner flag. Clayton takes it and plays it into the box, finding Keogh who sends a header just over the bar.
90 min - The fourth official has indicated there will be a minimum of four minutes added time.
88 min - Bit of a delay there as Thirlwell received some treatment for a back injury. He's back on now and play is underway, though that will increase the amount of added time.
85 min - Collin distributes the ball very quickly and the ball comes to Robson on the edge of the Gills area, who hits a low shot that Julian turns around his post. Robson takes the corner but it's a poor one and easily cleared.
84 min - Corner to Gillingham on the left. Jackman comes over to take it and it's flicked on at the near post by a Gills player, with Livesey heading it out on the far post for another corner. It's Jackman again and this time Collin comes and claims it easily.
81 min - Another change for The Blues, with Kevan Hurst coming off for Ben Marshall.
80 min - United make their first change, with Tom Taiwo coming off for Paul Thirlwell. Good shift from Tom today but I think he took a bit of a knock, hence him being subbed.
78 min - Keogh robs Barchamn of possession and United are away down the left. Robson easily beats Lewis and chips a ball in that Dobie gets on the end of but he heads wide. Difficult chance as the ball was behind him.
77 min - Again, he curls it superbly over the wall and Julian can only stand and watch as it goes inches wide of his left-hand post. Up the other end, the ball falls nicely to Jackman 20 yards out but he scuffs his left-foot shot miles wide of Collin's goal.
76 min - Free kick to United after Dobie is caught after flicking the ball on. Could have played advantage there as Duffy was clean through. Harte's standing over this one again, he's on a hat-trick...
74 min - Howe flicks on a long ball and Jackson could be through on goal but Livesey stays with him and makes a good tackle to stop the Canadian international just inside the area.
71 min - Corner on the left wing for Gillingham. Jackman takes it and finds Howe about 12 yards out but he scoops his left-foot shot well over the bar. Good chance that for the Gills forward.
69 min - Good advantage by the ref gives Barcham the chance to shoot and his curling effort takes a deflection and Collin does well to scoop it around the post for a corner. Jackman goes over to take it but it's over everyone and a wasted opportunity for the visitors.
66 min - Lovely flowing move from United there almost resulted in a third. Taiwo robs possession and then plays a clever ball to Clayton. He finds Duffy who delays his pass before playing it perfectly for Robson, who hits a low cross to Dobie who sidefoots it towards goal but again Julian makes a good stop. Maybe Scott could have got a bit more power in his shot but I think Julian deserves credit for that one.
62 min - Gillingham are set to make a change... scrap that, they're making ALL their changes at once. Coming off are Chris Palmer, Kevin Maher and Chris Dickson and replacing them are Stuart Lewis, Andy Barcham and Dennis Oli.
57 min - Free kick to United on the halfway line after a high-foot on Taiwo. Harte takes it long and picks out Dobie, who heads it down to Robson. He skips past Palmer and fires a low shot that Julian can only watch as it goes just wide of his far post.
53 min - Robson is really starting to worry Palmer now and again he's away down the left. He gets a cross in that Hurst can't quite get onto it but Taiwo does at the far post and he hits a shot towards goal that Julian does well to hold.
52 min - GOAL! Carlisle United 2 Gillingham 0 - Despite ironic chants of "Keogh!", it was always going to be Ian Harte stepping up to take it and he fires it into the top corner. Superb penalty, no chance for the keeper.
51 min - PENALTY TO CARLISLE - Clayton plays a lovely ball over to Robson who skins Palmer and is brought down in the area. Clear penalty to The Blues.
48 min - Corner for Gillingham after Livesey blocks Jackson's cross. Jackman swings in a good ball to the near post that Collin comes for but doesn't get and it's flicked on by Harte but Hurst gets onto the ball and clears to safety.
47 min - Today's attendance is 4,646.
1607 - They've taken their time, but finally both teams are back out on the pitch. Looks like there'll be no changes from either side. Gillingham get us underway again.
1551 - United go into the break one-up and probably just about deserve it. It was a slow start with the Gills looking stronger but United got into their stride and have started to create a few more opportunities. It was a superb free-kick from Harte to put The Blues in the lead. The ref hasn't made himself any friends and it's not hard to see why after missing Howe's blatant elbow on Harte. Should be an "interesting" second half to say the least. Back soon with the rest of the action.
HALF-TIME - Carlisle United 1 Gillingham 0
45 min - Fourth official has confirmed there will be a minimum of two minutes added time at the end of the first-half.
44 min - Gillingham have possession halfway inside their own half but then out of nowhere, Evan Horwood appears to win the ball. He plays it to Dobie who flicks it on superbly to the onrushing Taiwo, who gets into the box and pokes a quick shot towards goal but Julian gets down to make a fantastic save, with a Gills defender clearing it to safety.
42 min - Back to the point of Abbott being sent to the stands - it was a blatant elbow and quite increidble that all the officials managed to miss it. I'm guessing it was for something Greg said as he only came slightly onto the pitch. Could have been better handled, maybe a quiet word. All it's done though is spur United on so maybe not such a bad thing.
41min - That's Harte's 13th goal of the season and quite incredbly, the first direct free-kick he's scored this campaign.
40 min - GOAL! Carlisle United 1 Gillingham 0 - Free-kick to United after Duffy is bundled over. It's 20 yards out, dead central and perfect territory for Ian Harte to have a shot. He steps up and curls it beautifully over the wall and into the back of the net.
39 min - Well, there has been a red card of sorts... but it's to United manager Greg Abbott. He's been sent to the stands for his protests against that "non-decision". Mr Tierney's not making himself many friends here on his first visit to Brunton Park.
38 min - Ian Harte is caught by what you might call a "stray elbow" from Howe and is down with a facial injury. Howe is a very lucky boy as both the ref and linesman somehow managed to miss it. Greg Abbott is furious with the officials on the touchline.
35 min - Another corner to United, this time on the left after Miller heads behind. This time it's a good one from Hurst but no-one can quite get a touch and it ends up on the left-wing and is cleared up field.
34 min - Corner to United on the right after Duffy's pass is blocked by a defender. Hurst's corner is a bit too long again, but Robson picks up the ball and plays it to Harte on the left. His cross finds Livesey, who heads back to Clayton. He feigns to shoot on his right before hitting a low left-foot shot that goes just past Julian's post.
32 min - Free kick to Gillingham about 40 yardsout after a foul by Livesey on Jackson. Jackman steps up and sends the ball into the box but Livesey rises highest to head away, with Hurst completing the clearance.
29 min - The game is getting very scrappy, both teams are struggling to hold onto the ball for long periods. Plenty of commitment but not a huge amount of quality.
24 min - Horwood is penalised for handball and it's a free kick to Gillingham just over 25 yards out. Bit harsh that, the ball bounced up and there was little he could do. Jackman swings the ball in and it's a great header from Dennehy, looping up and coming back off the crossbar, with Jackson heading over from the rebound. Collin couldn't get near that.
21 min - Clayton wins a free-kick on the left-wing after being bundled over by Palmer. He takes the kick himself but it's a poor one that Keogh struggles to get on and can only head out for a goal kick.
18 min - Corner on the left for United after Robson's pressure forces Palmer to head the ball behind. Hurst goes over and plays it short to Robson, who sends in a cross that is headed out as far as Dobie who turns and shoots but it's blocked.
17 min - Great bit of interplay sees Clayton chip the ball into the box and Taiwo nod it down for Duffy, but Richards gets in there to poke it away before he can pull the trigger.
14 min - The Gills defence are struggling to cope with Dobie and he's brought down again by a defender and it's a free-kick on the left-wing. Harte's kick this time isn't as good and is cleared out to Hurst, who takes a touch and hits a low shot that a defender gets a foot on but Julian is well behind it and holds onto the ball.
13 min - Harte steps up and whips in a superb free-kick from the left-wing that results in a real goalmouth scramble, with Dobie not able to get a shot away due to a Gillingham player having the ball stuck between his legs and it's eventually booted out for a throw-in by Palmer.
12 min - Julian comes miles out of his area to try and get onto a long punt from Clayton but Dobie gets there before him and brings him down and it's a free-kick to United. Plenty of covering players so no threat of it being a red card, but surprising that not even a yellow was given.
11 min - Richard Keogh goes on one of his maraudering runs forward and then across the edge of the 18-yard box before laying it off for Robson, who sets himself up and hits a shot that Julian does well to stop and push away to safety before Palmer completes the clearance.
9 min - Dobie wins a right-wing corner after his cross is deflected behind off Nutter. Hurst goes over to take it but his kick is long and over everyone else and ends up with Robson winning a throw in on the left wing.
7 min - Clayton robs Dickson of possession about 25 yards out and hits a low shot that Julian does well to hold onto in the Gills goal.
3 min - A superb through ball from Dickson splits the United defence and Jackson is through on goal. Collin comes to the edge of the box and makes sure he doesn't catch the Gills forward but does enough to force him wide and put him off balance, firing his shot well wide. Horwood had got back to cover the open goal but it was a guilt edged chance for the visitors.
2 min - Maher takes a right-footed inswinging corner but it doesn't get past Horwood at the near post, who heads the ball away to safety.
1 min - Early free kick to Gillingham just inside the United half. Palmer sends a long ball into the box and there's a bit of head tennis before it's cleared. But the ball comes back quickly and Livesey is forced to head out for a corner on the left.
1502 - United will be kicking off today and will be attacking the Waterworks End in the first half. Duffy and Hurst get us underway...
1459 - The two teams are out now and doing the usual pre-match line-ups and you'll not be surprised to hear that there's no missed handshakes here at Brunton Park (I know I said I wouldn't... sorry!)
1458 - Today's referee is Mr Paul Tierney from Lancashire, who is in his first season as a Football League referee. His two assistants are Mr Bartlett with the red flag and Mr Kettlewell with the yellow flag. Fourth official is Mr M Coy.
1457 - Not the warmest of days at Brunton Park today but then again, not the coldest either. Just waiting for the teams to come out now...
1444 - There is also a familiar face on the Gills bench, defender Josh Gowling who left United near the start of the season on a permanent move after a short loan spell at the Priestfield Stadium.
1443 - For visitors Gillingham, there's just one change from their side that drew 1-1 with Leyton Orient in midweek. Captain Barry Fuller is out with a broken arm and is replaced by Chris Palmer, with Danny Jackman taking over the captain's arm band.
1438 - The team news is up at the top of the page and as you can see, there's a couple of changes for United from the side that lost 4-1 at Hartlepool in midweek. Dropping to the bench are Peter Murphy and Paul Thirlwell, coming into the team in their place are Evan Horwood and Tom Taiwo. Joe Anyinsah is not risked, while Richard Offiong makes a return to the bench after his own injury.
1432 - Afternoon all and welcome to today's Minute by Minute report as United take on Gillingham here at Brunton Park. I'll be bringing you all the action from 3pm and I'll try not to even mention handshakes, like everyone else seems to be today!
