United defender Ian Harte took and scored the first kick in the dramatic penalty shoot out against Leeds United on Tuesday night, helping United on their way to their first ever visit to the new Wembley Stadium. We caught up with him afterwards to get his reaction to the game.

He said: "We don't do boring games against Leeds do we?

"We knew tonight that we had to come out and put in a shift and a good performance. Leeds came fighting back as they always do, you only have to look at them in the FA Cup this year, they've pushed teams and tonight they've pushed us really hard and took us to penalties.

"Obviously I set us off by scoring first and then they've missed one and I really thought we were going to kick on and seal it. But Richard's put his over the bar and then they levelled it. But Adam's made another fantastic save and it went crazy.

"It's a great achievement for us and hopefully we can go there and enjoy the day but we've got to remember there are plenty of league games between now and then, starting with Saturday against MK Dons.

"I thought we deserved our 1-0 lead at the break but we knew they'd come out strong after half time. It was real end to end stuff in the second half and them scoring so early after the restart probably helped that.

"I thought Adam had given me a shout of "keepers" and I tried to flick it back to him. Obviously he hadn't said it, maybe it was just all the noise of the crowd at the start of the second half, and Snodgrass has snuck in and got them back in it.

"But we showed a great fighting spirit after that and got back into the game with a great strike from Hursty. It was frustrating that they got back into it with two more goals after that but we held strong in the penalty shoot out.

"For me taking a penalty was something I'm used to but some of those lads hadn't done it in a match situation before and they showed a lot of bottle to go up and take one.

"We said to the lads before they went up to make their mind up, focus on where they were going to hit it and not change their minds. They've all done that and in the end it's paid off."

"I've never been to Wembley so it'll be the first time for me and I'm really looking forward to it. All the lads have really enjoyed the game and we'll go down to London next month looking to bring the trophy back to Cumbria."
