Matt Robson's crucial spot kick on Tuesday night edged Carlisle United 6-5 ahead in the vital penalty shoot-out and it set it up for Adam Collin to make the save that sent Carlisle to the Football League Trophy final for the fifth time in the club's history.
He said: "In the first half we played very well. We limited Leeds to minimum efforts on goal and obviously going a goal in front was a massive boost. But we knew that they were going to come out stronger in the second half.
"We couldn't have had a worse start after the break with them scoring pretty much right away, and they put us on the back foot a bit."
Kevan Hurst's second half goal restored Carlisle United's two goal aggregate lead, however Leeds United again fought back and took the game to penalties.
"We got a second goal and that again gave us a lift," he said. "Leeds United are a great team and credit to them for keeping on coming back. In the end we got the job done."
The evening ended on a note of high tension for Robson when he stepped up to take United's seventh penalty, and he made no mistake as he set it up for Adam Collin to become the hero.
"There's always going to be a little nerves," he admitted, "but you have just got to be confident in your ability. You have got to pick your spot before you even get there, and don't change your mind!"
On the pending trip to the Capital he added: "I've never been to Wembley before. It's the home of English football and it's every boy's dream to play there. It's going to be a massive day."
The excitement in the changing room was clear to hear from the noise reverberating through the corridors at Brunton Park as the interview was being conducted.
"It's jubilation down there and most of the lads have never been to Wembley, even Ian Harte who is an experienced pro. Everyone is in a good mood and obviously we think it's great that we have done this for the fans as well."
With the Trophy business concluded, it's back to the important home League One match against MK Dons on Saturday.
"It's a great night for everyone but we have got more important things to think about at the moment," he warned. "We have a League One game on Saturday and we are determined to build on the positive things that we've been doing, so now it's time to concentrate on the league."
