PRODUCE THE GOODS

Posted on: Mon 08 Feb 2010

Manager Greg Abbott spoke to us about the Johnstone's Paint Trophy area final second leg with Leeds United this morning.

He said: "There's a bit of excitement around about this one.

"It's nice to see the fans here today buying the tickets because it's a nice game for everyone to look forward to.

"We've worked hard over the past few weeks to give a good account of ourselves, and the confidence is there. It's another really tough game that's coming up on Tuesday night but we intend to do the same again, give it a good shot, and we'll see what happens.

"When we went to Elland Road the hope was that we would come away still in with a fighting chance. We did that and we're in a good position, but we can't take anything for granted. We know all about them and the strength they have in depth, so we have to be ready to roll our sleeves up and work hard.

"Other people might be saying that we are still the underdogs but we'll just have to wait and see. With the determination that's in the squad, and with the energy and the commitment, we know that we can match anyone if we do things right. We'll be going out there to produce the goods again tomorrow.

"I think both sides will be taking this one very seriously. To lead your team out at Wembley, as a manager, or to play there as a player has got to be something that everyone connected with the game wants to do. I'm keen for the club to do well and it would be great for us all to get to the final.

"Leeds won't see it as a one goal deficit. They'll come here feeling that they have as good a chance as we have of progressing. I think it could easily be the toughest game that we've had for a while because of the prize that's at the end of it.

"They have quality in their side right through the team, but we think we're a tough proposition as well. We have ourselves a really good group together now and they are determined to keep improving themselves and moving this club forward. If the club is moving forward then they will be right there with it, and that's what they want to happen. When you have a dressing room like that then it gives you a fighting chance."

Player subscribers can see a video interview with Greg Abbott later tonight.
