FINGERS CROSSED FOR ANYINSAH

Posted on: Fri 05 Feb 2010

United manager Greg Abbott will have forward Joe Anyinsah back for the Friday morning training session following his visit to see a specialist on Thursday afternoon.

Anyinsah, 25, pulled out of the Leyton Orient game during the first half with a suspected lower stomach / groin problem but went through a procedure yesterday that will hopefully see him through until the end of the campaign.

Abbott said: "Joe is back with us now, but he had an injection yesterday.

"The surgeons think that it may work, so we'll throw him back into training and see how he does. We think that tomorrow might be a little bit too early for him, because it does take time for it to settle down.

"If it works it might get us through to the end of the season, but if it doesn't improve then he will need an operation. If that does happen then we will probably lose him for the rest of the season. It's fingers crossed with it now.

"What we'll do is look at the situation closely because we don't want to rush him back and make it worse. We'll see if he is free of pain and we'll make a decision then, but if he declares himself fully fit then he gives me a selection problem."

Meanwhile striker Gary Madine will also return to training today following his battle against a stomach bug.

Abbott explained: "Gary is going to be a little bit weak because he hasn't eaten for a few days with the dose of sickness that he has had. He'll be back with us today and we will see how he gets on."
