UNITED YOUTH 0 STOKE CITY YOUTH 1 FT
United - Gillespie, Wood (Bonner 82), Cleary, Richards-Everton, Swinglehurst, McKenna, Law, Davison, Osmond, Richardson, Bowman. Subs - Ball, Cahill, Towler, Sloan.
Stoke - Parton, Hedley, Foster (Wint 90), Connor, Cohen, McDonald, Irwin (Alexander 90), Nicholls, Vickers (Harrison 46), Moult, Stockhall. Subs - Jackson, Sinclair.
2050 - So United crash out in the third round of this season's FA Youth Cup. A frustrating evening, as extra-time looked nailed on until a slack piece of defending right at the end on a set-piece. The lads get a great reception as they do come off from the United fans and it's back to the league for them at the weekend. Full reaction to tonight's game over the next few days. More from me at the weekend as the first-team take on Wycombe Wanderers.
FULL-TIME - CARLISLE UNITED YOUTH 0 STOKE CITY YOUTH 1
90+2 min - Two late changes for Stoke, with Warwick Alexander and Laton Wint coming on for Zack Foster and Tom Irwin.
90+1 min - We think the goal was from Matthew Cohen but that will be confirmed later here on the official site.
90 min - There'll be a minimum of two minutes added time. No-one was standing on the near post for that goal, which if something that won't leave Eric Kinder very pleased.
89 min - GOAL! Carlisle United 0 Stoke City 1 - A bit of a sickener for United, as it looks like Stoke have won the tie. A corner from the right-wing is swung in to the six-yard box and it's headed into the back of the net by a Stoke player but I've no idea who with these dreadful numbers!
84 min - What a glorious chance for Stoke but somehow, it's gone wide. A long ball into the box finds Nicholls, who brings it down superbly but his first-time right foot volley flies wide of Gillespie's goal.
83 min - Incidently, Wood appeared to pick that injury up as the result of a poor challenge from Stoke's Ryan Connor. It wasn't Connor's first this evening either and surprisingly not even a word from referee Mr Stockbridge.
82 min - United make their first change and it's unlucky for James Wood, who comes off after picking up an injury and is replaced by James Bonner.
78 min - Moult picks up the ball 16 yards out with his back to goal and turns before curling a shot towards goal but his shot is blocked by Richards-Everton and Gillespie claims. He releases the ball quickly and from the counter attack, McKenna crosses from the right but Parton does well to claim the ball under pressure from Osmond.
73 min - Free-kick on the left-wing to Stoke after a rash challenge from McKenna. The ball is whipped in but Wood heads out for a corner. Harrison takes it but Gillespie comes and punches high into the air and Moult heads the ball well wide.
71 min - Got a bit scrappy for a bit there but the game comes to life with a good counter attack from Stoke. Harrison and Irwin link up well on the left and the latter is clean through on the left side of the box but Gillespie comes out and stays big to make a great save and pick up the rebound.
64 min - Long throw from Wood looks for Bowman but Stoke head clear only for Richardson to intercept. He can't get a shot away as the ball sits up but it does fall to Law who hits a low left-foot volley from 20 yards but it's well held by Parton.
62 min - A couple of quick corners in succession from Stoke are wasted as United finally get it cleared to safety.
61 min - Free-kick for Stoke as Moult goes down under a soft challenge from Richards-Everton on the Stoke right-wing. Connor takes a low cross that Wood puts out for a corner.
60 min - Very nearly an own-goal by Stoke defender Cohen, who gets on the end of a low Wood cross but Parton was alert and claimed the ball. Any more power on that shot and it'd have been an embarrassing moment for the Stoke centre-back.
58 min - But Stoke are still a threat on the break and Moult tries his luck from 25 yards but it's superbly palmed over the bar by Gillespie. United switch off at the corner but from the cross, GIllespie comes through a crowd of players and claims the ball well.
55 min - United have started the second-half on fire and go so close to making it 1-0. Wood is brought down 30 yards out and it's a free-kick dead central for United. Bowman steps up and curls it around the wall and it goes agonisingly wide of Parton's left-hand post, with the Potteries keeper stranded by his right-hand post.
54 min - Another chance for United as Richardson takes control in a deeper position, playing it out wide to Osmond. His cross misses everyone but it comes back in and McKenna gets on the end of it but Parton parries and Bowman can't get to the rebound as it's cleared to safety.
50 min - Now it's United's first chance of the second period and it falls to the one man they'd have wanted it to. However, Bowman's goalscoring touch deserts him for once and when through one-on-one with Parton on the left side of the box, he hits it straight at the keeper who smothers on the rebound.
48 min - First chance of the half comes to the visitors, as Moult sees his shot from the 12 yards out superbly blocked by Cleary. The ball comes to Connor 25 yards out who hits a low shot that Gillespie gets down and does well to hold on to, as that looked like it might sneak just inside the post.
1959 - Stoke are now back out and with only ten men... but the sub is now out too. It's going to be Adam Vickers coming off for Jack Harrison. United kick-off the second-half, attacking the Warwick Road End.
1957 - United are now back out on the pitch and we're just waiting for Stoke to come back out. We're 99% sure Stoke will make a change at the break as they had one ready just before half-time but didn't have time to bring him on. We're not sure who it'll be though with these impossible to see numbers.
1945 - Close contest so far, with United more than matching their Premier League Academy side counterparts. United probably had some of the better early chances, with Osmond the closest to opening the scoring. Stoke still look a threat on the counter with plenty of pace in their side and the impressive Stockhall always a threat on the left. More from me shortly...
HALF-TIME - CARLISLE UNITED YOUTH 0 STOKE CITY YOUTH 0
44 min - That was another good chance for Stoke, this time defender Matthew Cohen missing from close range. A bit of pinball action in the 18-yard box sees the ball fall to Cohen but he pokes at the ball and volleys it past Gillespie's left-hand post.
38 min - Stoke should really have taken the lead there but it's a superb block by James Wood. A cross from the Stoke right finds Moult who takes it down well and blasts towards goal from about 10 yards out but Wood throws himself at the ball and it goes away to safety.
37 min - Free-kick to United for handball, though from our view it looked like it was Richardson who handled it! McKenna takes it and the ball's flicked towards the far post where Richards-Everton tries a looping shot but it's wide of Parton's goal. Strangely, Richards-Everton was having his shirt pulled all over the place there but no appeal from any United players and missed by the ref who had a perfect view of it.
35 min - A chance for Stoke and once again it's Stockhall causing problems. A throw-in on the right-wing finds it's way over to him after some scrappy challenges and with his back to goal, he turns well before firing a left-foot shot from 20 yards just over Gillespie's bar.
34 min - It's been lightly drizzling since kick-off but in the last couple of minutes it's turned into a bit of a downpour. Will be interesting to see what effect this has on the game.
33 min - From the resulting corner, McKenna swings it in and it's cleared as far as Law but his volley flies well wide of Parton's goal.
32 min - Long throw-in near the left-wing corner flag by Swinglehurst sees Bowman flick it on and somehow, among a quick game of head tennis, Stoke get it clear with Richardson and McKenna both looking to get a scoring touch. Not long after, McKenna takes a short corner to Richardson who flicks it back to him and he hits a shot towards goal that the Stoke keeper scrambles back to tip over the bar.
29 min - It's time for my staple "the game's got a bit scrappy" comment when nothing happen's for about 5 minutes. Because it has got scrappy, both sides not having many clear cut chances.
24 min - Another chance for Stockhall as he cuts inside from the left and sends a stinging shot from 20 yards into the side-netting. Not sure if Gillespie would have had that covered as he didn't have a clear view of it.
23 min - Cross to the far post by Hedley finds Stockhall who leaps over Wood but can only head wide of the United goal. Gillespie could maybe have come for that one, with Wood clearly not enjoying success in a aerial contest with Stockhall.
20 min - Long shot from Law takes a deflection and earns United a corner on the right. Osmond sends in a left-footed inswinger but it's low to the near post and easily cleared by the Stoke defender on the near post.
18 min - Big chance for United but they can't take it. A throw-in near the right-wing corner flag by Wood finds its way back to Law. He hits a long ball into the box that sees Parton spill the ball straight to Osmond, but he can't turn the ball onto his stronger left-foot and his effort with his right-foot goes well wide of what was pretty much an open goal.
15 min - Stoke are putting pressure on United but they lose possession on the attack. United break through Osmond and then Richardson. He sets Bowman away down the left and he turns the Stoke right-back Hedley inside out before hitting an early shot that forces Parton to make a smart stop.
13 min - A little break in play has given me a chance to update the Stoke City line-up, so it's now correct!
11 min - First chance for Stoke and it falls to their dangerman Louis Moult. He jinks and twists on the edge of the box before smashing a shot towards goal that cannons back off the crossbar and away to safety. Hard to tell from back here but I think Mark Gillespie got a touch on the shot - if so it's a cracking save from the United keeper.
10 min - Stoke's McDonald gets far too tight on Bowman and hauls him down on the halfway line. Free-kick to United and Swinglehurst takes it long... but the second he hits it, every Stoke player sprints forward and all the United player is offside. Well worked by the Stoke defence, but I doubt they'll do that more than once.
4 min - Those United Player subscribers out there wanting to listen to match commentary from United Media Officer Andy Hall and cufconline's Tim Graham, click here.
3 min - I will update the Stoke line-up at half-time but to be honest, it'll make little difference as they're wearing a dreadful combination of red and white striped shirts with very small black numbers on the back so it's pretty much impossible to tell who is who!
2 min - Early chance for United as Manny Richardson is brought down on the left-wing. Ben McKenna comes over and sends a high ball to the far post and Swinglehurst heads into the net... but the linesman flag is up before it crosses the line, with the United left-back penalised for a bit of shirt pulling. Early warning sign for the visitors though.
1858 - The two teams are now out and doing the usual handshakes etc. Looks like it's going to be Stoke City to kick-off, with United attacking the Waterworks End in the first-half. Stoke get us underway.
1855 - The two teams are now listed above, but as it stands the Stoke team is incorrect! There's been a fair few problems with the teamsheet but the United line-up is definitely correct.
1835 - Evening all! No midweek game for the first-teamers this week but the Youth Team are very much in action this evening as they take on Premier League academy side Stoke City at Brunton Park in the third round of the FA Youth Cup. It's game that has to be decided this evening, even if that means extra-time and penalties! Full team news to follow shortly.
