United manager Greg Abbott gave us his thoughts after the 3-2 victory over Hartlepool:
"The performance was not too bad in an attacking sense.
"It was a shocking start. Ask me to explain it and I can't. We said all the right things in the build up to the game and then we just didn't get out of the blocks. The conditions must play a part, so it's a case of getting the ball into the front players quickly and that's why we went with two up top. We didn't play to it though and we ended up with too many square passes and balls getting cut out, and we ended up causing problems for ourselves.
"If you go back to the bad times, we were conceding goals late and we couldn't recover. It was killing us. At the moment, if we do concede early, you do feel that there are goals in our side. That gives you a chance. Our inability to shut down games hit us again with the late goal. We were trying to play pretty football when the game and conditions wasn't about that. We need to learn when to calm things down and see the game out.
"We've got a good set of lads here. Even when things aren't done properly, we are still a group that is together. You'd actually have thought that I had lost the game with my debrief in the dressing room afterwards, but that's because I want them to be as professional and as disciplined as they can be. We're on the fringes of good things at the moment but we just need to tighten up.
"It's a giant step forward for us tonight because we have moved to twelfth in the table. I don't want it to stop there though. We have to want to improve and we have to want to keep the momentum going, or we shouldn't be in this job.
"The lads responded to the team talk at half time and for 35 or 40 minutes of that second half we were good. We got the goals to go with it, so we can be happy with that. However, I will always push the players and I will always want more. The key at the moment is that we are getting plenty of belief and the confidence is coming from that. If that continues then we are going to really start moving towards where we want to be. As long as we keep fighting and scrapping as we are then we are going to be fine, I really think that.
"It was Tom's [Taiwo] first career goal and it was huge for him. It's something that he wants to add to his game, and we want him to add it to his game. He's a good player and he will only get better if he chips in with the odd goal or two. I'm chuffed to bits for him."
