DELIGHTED TO GET THROUGH

Posted on: Sun 29 Nov 2009

Defender Richard Keogh was again at the heart of an impressive United performance in yesterday's 3-1 win over Norwich City in the FA Cup Second Round, helping an impressive defensive performance from the team as well as grabbing the third goal. We spoke to him after the game to get his reaction on the win and to find out who he wanted to face in the Third Round.

"The lads are delighted to get through to the Third Round. We've got a fantastic result today against a very good team. You only have to look at their league form to see how good they are. Ever since they appointed Paul Lambert they've been a hard side to beat, so to win 3-1 shows how well we've played.

"I think having played them a few weeks ago might have made a bit of a difference. We were a bit unlucky that day to lose 1-0, and this time we had a better idea of how they were likely to line-up. But at the end of the day it's down to the eleven players who go out on the pitch on the day and I thought as a team we played well and deserved the win.

"Vincent was absolutely fantastic today, he gave their centre-halves a lot of trouble and his hold-up play was brilliant. His goal came out of nothing. It was a good ball in by Joe but I don't think many other players would have been able to reach it. But he's a big lad and managed to get something on it, and thankfully for us it went in the net.

"It was disappointed to concede just before half-time but Wes Hoolahan is a good player and he's jinked past a couple of players and sent in a great cross that Holt did well to get on the end of.

"But we reacted really well to that goal, we got in at half-time and regrouped. After the break we got off to a flyer and Kev scored with a great finish.

"It was great to get my first goal in a competitive game at Brunton Park and we felt a lot more comfortable after that. That's three for the season now and I'm hoping to chip in with a few more.

"The fog didn't really affect us. I guess the fans in the stands may have had a few problems working out who was who, but at pitch level you could see everyone else fine.

"I'd like West Ham United away in the next round as I'm a Hammers fan but, to be honest, any Premier League team would be fine. I think we've deserved to get a decent draw with our performance today so fingers crossed we'll get a big side."
