STILL THINGS TO PROVE

Posted on: Thu 19 Nov 2009

United winger Matt Robson has scored four goals so far this season and has endeared himself to the Blues faithful with a run of performances that have earned him three Brunton Park man-of-the-match awards.

We spoke to him on Thursday afternoon about his form and about life with Carlisle United.

He said: "It's been a while since I have played a run of games like this, so I am really enjoying myself. It's something that I have looked forward to and I'm thankful to the gaffer for giving me the opportunity. Playing week in and week out gives you a massive lift, so all I can do is work hard and hope that it continues. I think the fans appreciate the effort that I'm putting in, but I do think that I still have things to prove.

"As a team we feel that we're on the brink of something. We have threatened to go off on a really good run and we feel that it is coming. There's something waiting to happen in this team, and hopefully it'll come sooner rather than later."

"It's been a season of ups and downs already," he admitted. "The dressing room was really low after the Yeovil game because of the way we had played. The good thing is that we have changed it around since then. Even though we lost at Bristol, we felt we had played well in that one. We conceded in the 93rd minute, or whenever it was, but we all knew that we deserved to get something out of the game. We came out of it looking forward to the next game, so that we could put it right, and that's what we did."

"There's no-one in this league that we should fear." he explained. "We have shown against the likes of Southampton, Charlton and Leeds that we can match that level, so it's important that we don't drop our standards against other teams. Once we find the consistency that's needed we are going to be alright."

On the Swindon game, he said: "They are going to come here and they will want to win. There aren't many teams who go anywhere with the intention of sitting back for the full 90 minutes, and they'll be no different. If we play the way that we know we can, and if we work hard to keep the clean sheet, then we will make it just as hard for them. We have goals in this side, so we are looking forward to it."

"It's all about us and what we do," he told us. "We can't worry too much about their players, because we know that we have enough to get past that if we play to our potential. Danny Wilson will put a solid team out and try to do a job on us but, like I say, we have to make sure that it's about us and how we play."

United Player subscribers can see a video interview with Matt Robson from midnight on Thursday (it's uploading slowly tonight for some reason).
