I DON'T LIKE LOSING

Posted on: Mon 09 Nov 2009

United manager Greg Abbott spoke to us on Monday morning to share more thoughts on the draw with Morecambe and to look ahead to the Johnstone's Paint Trophy game against Chesterfield.

"First round FA Cup games are notoriously difficult. League positions and status count for nothing, as a few teams found out to their cost this weekend.

"We were obviously pleased to take a two goal lead but what we are disappointed with are the mistakes that we made. Credit to Morecambe, they stuck at the game and they deservedly got a reward from it.

"We had possession of the ball for the first goal and we lost to give them their corner. We should then have been keeping the ball for their second goal, and we lost it, and they scored from an area where we then had a gaping hole. The goals we conceded were both avoidable, and that has to be a concern.

"What we're trying to do now is build some positivity around the place. We are going to have set-backs, that's the nature of the game, but it's important that we keep our togetherness when it is like that. We have to work hard at putting another unbeaten winning run together and that's something that we will try to do.

"It's on to the Chesterfield game now and that's one that I want to win. I'm a person who doesn't like losing games and I don't think of anything else when we do. On Tuesday night we take on a very good Chesterfield side who have a fantastic home record. They are in a great run of form and they will be as keen to win the game as we are. We're not making too many alterations but we need to see one or two play and we have a couple of injuries.

"They have some good players and we will have to be on our guard. Jack Lester comes to life inside the box and they have Drew Talbot beside him, and between them they score goals. They have energy and strength and they will be looking forward to it, but so are we.

"This is a competition that everyone wants to win ... I know that I do ... so I don't think it's any different at any other club."
