Greg Abbott spoke to the media to give his thoughts on the Charlton game on Saturday:
"We are a backroom staff and a group of players full of genuine honesty.
We give everything that we've got and we try our hardest with everything that we do. We make some mistakes and we get other things right, but we are so united in our aim as to what we want to achieve. We want to lift this club and make it a happier place to be.
We feel that we're making progress and we're going in the right direction. We've seen a performance and what we have to do now is make sure that we maintain those levels, because the fans have a right to expect that from us now. We need to do it on a much more consistent basis. Hopefully I'll be talking about this kind of performance week in and week out from here on in.
One of the really pleasing things from the game is that we stopped Charlton from creating real chances. They do look comfortable on the ball, but so did we, and that's a real positive. We looked compact and cohesive and we defended very well.
The fact that we played in this way against the background of what has gone on this week shows that we all stand united. I am as pleased for the three owners that remain in charge as for anyone after this, because they have had a tough time. They've had criticism and they have had everybody wanting to have a go.
This club is what it is and we have never professed to be anything different. We have never claimed to have millions of pounds, but they love this club and they invest what they can whenever I ask them to. They are driving it forward in a sensible way, and they have made no secret that they are open to somebody helping them out, as they have said a number of times. However, even without that there is still a quiet determination to take this club forward.
All I want to do is help them by getting positive results on the pitch. I have a duty to make their job as easy as it can be, because they certainly try to do that for me.
The off-field stuff wasn't mentioned to the players at all ahead of kick off. Out of the respect to the owners, I don't really know what goes on in the boardroom, so I wouldn't want to say anything to the lads about it anyway. I leave them to do that side of things and they leave me to get on with the football, and that's how it should be."
A video interview with Greg Abbott will appear on United Player later today.
