CARLISLE UNITED 3 (Harte 41, Kavanagh 63, 83) CHARLTON ATHLETIC 1 (Burton 45+1) FT
1658: After a pretty equal first-half, United totally dominated the second period, with Pidgeley only having one save to make. The promotion challenges looked second best all over the park and two stunning strike from Graham Kavanagh gave United a deserved three points. United up to 15th after that win. We'll have full reaction this weekend from several players and the manager. I'll be back next Saturday for the FA Cup First Round clash against Morecambe.
FULL-TIME - Carlisle United 3 Charlton Athletic 1
90+1 min: What a maraudering run by Richard Keogh! After Anyinsah wins it following some Charlton pressure, Keogh picks it up in the right-back position and it's head down on a run deep into the Charlton half before three defenders eventually stop him. The fans are very appreciative of his efforts there.
90 min: The fourth official has indicated there will be a minimum of four minuted time added on at the end of the game.
88 min: United make their second change, with Vincent Pericard coming off for Marc Bridge-Wilkinson. Not too many chances for big Vince to get a goal this afternoon but his hold-up play has been top class.
85 min: United are flying now and Joe Anyinsah is sent away down the right-wing by Kav. He cuts inside beating two men and playing it to Dobie but the return ball to Joe is just behind him and Charlton clear.
83 min: GOAL! Carlisle United 3 Charlton Athletic 1 - It's another WONDER strike from Graham Kavanagh. He picks the ball up just inside the Charlton half, goes on a run with the United crowd urging him to pass it to Robson. He does, cutting inside and smacking it into the top corner past Ikeme from 25 yards, giving him no chance. Two "Goal of the Season" contenders this afternoon from the Irishman.
82 min: United make their first change of the afternoon, with Kevan Hurst coming off for Joe Anyinsah. Straight swap, with Joe going onto the right-wing.
81 min: Dangerous cross from Bailey on the left into the middle and Dave Mooney just can't quite get a header on it and it's a goal-kick to United.
79 min: Free-kick to Charlton about 30 yards out after a foul by Taiwo (though again, it looked like he won the ball). The highly-rated Shelvey takes it and curls it low around the wall but Pidgeley does well and holds onto it.
78 min: Bailey goes down theatrically in the area under a challenge from Keogh but the ref's having nothing of it. Keogh lets Bailey know what he thinks of that, then the Charlton man appears to grab Keogh in a place you really don't want to be grabbed, a la Vinny Jones on Paul Gascoigne. Lucky man Bailey that the ref wasn't looking!
76 min: He's not had a lot to do this afternoon but that's a smart stop from Pidgeley, saving Racon's powerful drive at his right-hand post. From the resulting corner, Bailey's corss is well headed away by Dobie. Charlton then win another corner, this time on their right wing but it's headed straight out by Basey.
74 min: Pericard is hauled down again, this time by Dailly who has already been booked. Referee Mark Haywood seems to be telling him that's his last warning though, so no red-card for the former Rangers man. Free-kcik to United in a good position to the right of the box, about 25 yards out.
72 min: Charlton boss Phil Parkinson is going for broke now, making all his subs at once! Coming off are Jose Semedo, Izale McLeod and Elliot Omozusi, with Jonjo Shelvey, Grant Basey and Dave Mooney coming on in their place.
71 min: Good pressure from Pericard and Taiwo sees the latter win the ball in midfield. He goes on a surging run down the middle but his shot is well wide. Don't think shooting is one of his strong points!
70 min: Keogh is back on the pitch now and seems to have had no ill-effects from that knock.
69 min: Bit of a delay here as RIchard Keogh gets a treatment for an injury in the Charlton penalty area. It'll take a lot more than a slight knock to keep Keogh off the pitch!
68 min: Calamity at the back for Charlton as Youga slips and concedes a corner under pressure from Pericard. Hurst takes it on the right and Ikeme comes for the ball but drops it and Livesey can't quite get a touch and Sodje clears to safety.
67 min: Dobie was almost through on goal there after beating the offiside trap but Ikeme comes out of his area to clear Taiwo's through ball out for a throw-in.
63 min: GOAL! Carlisle United 2 Charlton Athletic 1 - What. A. GOAL! Good pressure from Robson forces Omozusi to play his clearance straight to Graham Kavanagh. He takes a touch before absolutely leathering the ball into the bottom corner from 30 yards, giving Ikeme no chance. Stunning strike and no more than United deserve for their pressure in the second-half.
61 min: Dobie does well to win the ball near the right-wing corner flag. His initial cross is headed away and comes to Hurst, He lays it back to Keogh who sends in a very inviting cross that Pericard gets on the end of but he's just ahead of it and heads wide of goal.
57 min: From the corner, Livesey almost connects but it's cleared and Charlton are off on the counter. It's played towards the United left-back position for Sam to chase but Robson gets back brilliantly and wins a free-kick.
56 min: He smashes it towards goal but it hits Bailey straight in the head and goes out for a corner. Again, the United fans enjoyed that!
55 min: Great strength again by Pericard, who's hauled down just on the edge of the box and it's a free-kick to United. Harte's standing over it again...
52 min: Youga picks up the ball on the left-wing and does a mazy run inside before sending a right-foot shot towards goal that Pidgeley holds onto easily.
50 min: From that free-kick, Bailey lofts the ball into the middle and Burton sends a header just wide of Pidgeley's left-hand post.
49 min: Dobie brings down Racon about 40 yards out and in a frustrated attempt at a clearance, kicks it at the midfielder as he's on the floor. Booking for the United man.
48 min: McLeod wins the ball on the edge of the box and he lays it across to Sam, who takes a touch before hitting towards goal but Harte blocks and it's cleared.
47 min: Early corner for the visitors after Racon's through ball takes a touch off a United defender. Bailey goes over to the right-wing to take it, lofting the ball towards the edge of the box where Dailly heads back across goal but a handball by a Charlton defender gives United a free-kick.
46 min: Today's attendance is 6,077.
1607: Danny Livesey IS back out for the second-half, but not moving too freely right now. Dobie and Taiwo get us underway, with United now attacking the Warwick Road End.
1603: Quick correction from earlier - it was Livesey who was getting climbed over for the pen shout that was turned down. Still no sign as to whether he'll be out for the second-half.
1554: Something I didn't have a chance to mention at the end of the half there, Danny Livesey had to be helped off the pitch by Neil Dalton after picking up a knock just before the break. I'd say it's debatable that he'll be out in the second-half and Peter Murphy is doing a bit more of a warm-up than the rest of the subs. Back with a bit more crack shortly.
1552: Well, a first-half that was a bit dull up until around the 40th minute when it sprung into life out of nowhere and all the debate surrounds referee Mark Haywood. He seemed to miss a stonewall penalty for the Blues when Dobie was climbed all over but a minute later gave one for an apparent push that everyone else seemed to miss. Charlton's penalty was definitely a foul, but was it in the box? Very touch and go, Sam was certainly making sure he landed inside the area to give that option to Mr Haywood. Should be an interesting second-half.
HALF-TIME - Carlisle United 1 Charlton Athletic 1
45+4 min: The ball falls to Burton on the right-hand edge of the box but he scuffs his volley into the Warwick Road End.
45+3 min: United win a corner on the left after Bailey scoops a clearance out of play. Robson takes but Harte can't quite get over his cross and Livesey then scuffs his attempt to control it out for a goal-kick.
45+1 min: GOAL! Carlisle United 1 Charlton Athletic 1 - It is a penalty after the ref consulted with his assistant and Deon Burton steps up to take it. Pidgeley goes the right way but it's well struck and that's 1-1. Three minutes time added on at the end of the first-half.
45 min: The ref appears to have given a penalty to Charlton for a foul by Kavanagh on Sam. Looked just outside to me.
42 min: It's all going off at Brunton Park now! Charlton manager Phil Parkinson is angry with the decision and has said something that the fourth official doesn't approve of, as before the kick-off, he sends him to the stands!
41 min: GOAL! Carlisle United 1 Charlton Athletic 0 - It's Harte who takes the penalty and Ikeme saves it but he's there to follow up on the rebound and he taps it into the empty net to give United the lead!
40 min: From Keogh's long throw, a Charlton defender tries to get a piggy back off Dobie but nothing's given! United have got a corner on the right though. Hurst takes it and now the ref DOES give a penalty! I have absolutely no idea what for though
39 min: Now it's a free-kick on the right-wing for United. Harte takes it again but he scuffs it and Bailey clears out for a throw-in.
38 min: How on earth did that not go in? Great free-kick from Harte has Ikeme sprawling to get to it. It clips one post, rolls along the six-yard box about one yard from the line and out towards the right-wing. It was so quick that no United player could get there!
37 min: Great flick-on by Pericard and Dobie is away down the middle but Dailly hauls him down. He's a lucky man though as there's a covering defender so it's only a yellow card for Dailly. Good position on the free-kick for United though, definitely in shooting distance for Harte at just short of 30 yards out.
34 min: Clever play by Dobie who shields the ball and forces Racon into a foul about 30 yards out on the left-wing. Harte takes the free-kick and crosses into the box but it's headed away by Christian Dailly. On the edge of the box, Racon goes down very easily under a Harte challenge and wins a free-kick to take the pressure off his side.
32 min: Long free-kick from inside the United half by Keogh finds Pericard who holds off his man and chests it for Kav but he tries a lofted volley and it's straight into the arms of Ikeme.
31 min: Great play from United and that should have been 1-0. Good pass down the middle by Harte to Hurst, who picks out an excellent run by Dobie. He's onside and just Ikeme to beat but he goes for placement rather than power and the on-loan Wolves keeper easily saves his effort. Should have smashed it and he knows it.
30 min: Good run from Bailey there down the middle sees him get past Keogh and then sends a 25-yard right-foot shot just over Pidgeley's bar. The United keeper isn't happy with his defence for not stopping the Charlton midfielder sooner.
29 min: Some strong challenges flying in from the United players now and it's lifting the crowd. After some scrappy play where neither side managed to keep hold of the ball, it falls to Robson 25 yards out but he drags his shot wide of Ikeme's left-hand post.
28 min: Bailey goes down theatrically under a challenge from Hurst in his own half. Definitely a free-kick but no need to behave like that. He's getting the inevitable stick from the Main Stand for that!
25 min: Free-kick to Charlton this time as Taiwo brings down McLeod on their left-wing. Bailey sends in the cross but Pidgeley claims well at the far post.
24 min: Pericard is wrestled to the ground on the left-wing by Semedo and it's a free-kick to United. Kav takes it but it's far too low and easily headed away by Bailey on the edge of the box.
22 min: Bailey does take it, but it's straight into the wall to the delight of the United fans who let him know exactly what they think of that effort!
21 min: McLeod goes on a surging run down the middle but he's stopped by an excellent Taiwo tackle. Mr Haywood doesn't agree though and gives Charlton a debatable free-kick about 30 yards out, dead central. Looks like Mr Bailey will be taking it!
20 min: Robson's corner from the left is headed away in the six-yard box by a Charlton defender and Hurst heads it back in the middle and Ikeme easily claims the ball.
19 min: Kav waits for a high ball to come down and flicks a header on but is flattened by Omozusi and wins a free-kick about 40 yards out. Harte will take it but it's too far for a shot. He curls in a cross that's low but a defender scoops it in the air and it's a United corner on the left.
18 min: Cross from the left-wing about 30 yards out by Nicky Bailey is missed by everyone and goes just wide of the far post. Only needed someone to get a touch on that and it could have been 1-0 to the visitors.
13 min: Every touch by Charlton's Nicky Bailey is getting booed by the United fans. They still haven't forgotten his appearances against the Blues for both Barnet and Southend, it's fair to say he's not the most popular person in Brunton Park this afternoon!
11 min: Good passing play by United down the left sees the the ball played across field and to Keogh. His cross is headed towards goal by Hurst but a block from a Charlton defender falls to Kav, who has to take a touch to get the ball under control but he still can't get over the ball and scuffs his left-foot shot wide.
8 min: Pretty uneventful stuff so far, Charlton probably edging it on possession but no clear chances for either side.
4 min: Sloppy play from Charlton this time sees Dobie pick the ball up on the right-hand side of the area. He turns and smashes the ball across goal but no-ones there and it goes out for a goal-kick on the far side.
2 min: Bit of early pressure from Charlton after United give the ball away in midfield but after passing it about for a bit, Lloyd Sam's eventual cross is easily claimed by Pidgeley.
1502: Charlton will be kicking off this afternoon, with United attacking the Waterworks End in the first-half. The Addicks get us underway!
1459: Both teams are now out and doing the usual handshakes and pre-match pleasantries. United are of course, in their home kit with blue shirts and white shorts, while Charlton are in their home kits as well, with red shirts and black shorts (though I think they might normally play in white shorts?).
1457: We do know that plenty of members of the army do follow the fortunes of the Blues from afar, often while on duty in places such as Iraq and Afghanistan. Well United are offering soldiers who have served in both those places, or are about to head there in the next five months, the chance to be guests of honour at next week's FA Cup First Round tie against Morecambe at Brunton Park. For more details, click here.
1453: Today's referee is Mark Haywood from West Yorkshire. It's his second visit to Brunton Park this season, having took charge of the opening day defeat to Brentford. The only player he booked that day was United's Tom Taiwo, though he also gave the Blues a penalty which Ian Harte converted.
1449: Plenty of experience and talent in Charlton Athletic's side today, including former Rangers and West Ham defender Christian Dailly. Two changes for the visitors from their side that drew 1-1 at Gillingham last weekend. Goalkeeper Rob Elliot is out for six weeks with an injury picked up in that game, and so on-loan Wolves keeper Carl Ikeme makes his debut for the Addicks (he'll want to forget his last visit to Brunton Park, a 6-0 hammering for Stockport in 2005!). Also making his debut on-loan is Elliot Omozusi, replacing the injured Frazer Richardson.
1445: So it's exactly the same line-up as last week for United. Richard Keogh continues to deputise at right-back, with Ian Harte slotting in at left-back. One change on the bench, with Ryan Bowman dropping out of the squad and being replaced by Richard Offiong who's back after missing last weekend's win with a slight hamstring injury. No place for David Raven, who's still not quite fit enough.
1443: Here's those two line-ups as promised -
United - Pidgeley, Keogh, Livesey (captain), Harte, Horwood, Hurst, Taiwo, Kavanagh, Robson, Dobie, Pericard. Subs - Collin, Bridge-Wilkinson, Murphy, Anyinsah, Rothery, Offiong, Kane.
Charlton - Ikeme, Omozusi, Youga, Dailly, Sodje, Sam, Semedo, Racon, Bailey (captain), Burton, McLeod. Subs - Randolph, Llera, Shelvey, Basey, Spring, Wagstaff, Mooney.
1440: Afternoon all. It's been an interesting few days at Brunton Park to say the least, but the only thing that matters this afternoon for two hours is what happens ON the pitch. On the back of a confidence boosting 2-1 win over Southend United last weekend, United take on high-flying Charlton Athletic looking to make it two wins in a row for the first time this season.
