PENNY IS STILL TO DROP
Youth boss Eric Kinder spoke to us about the 2-0 defeat at Bury:
"Conceding the early goal made life tough, but it was very even after that.
We were rocked a little bit when they scored after just three minutes, and it took us a while to get going.
We still have a tendency to sit back and let teams play, and we are much better when we get into them early and try to compete. As I have said before, that's something that we don't do enough, and it is making games much harder than they need to be.
We had enough possession to have taken something from the game, but we can't really complain. They took their chances and we didn't, and that's a problem that we will have to address. We need someone who will fill the void that is left when our main striker doesn't play, but we're very hopeful that the arrival of Mani Richardson will help us with that. He has promise, and he should be a good player once he settles.
There were some good spells in the game for us, but Bury could say the same, and we would probably want to see more in the way of clear cut chances.
Their keeper made a top class save from a James Reid volley late in the game, but we never really looked like scoring other than that.
James Wood was outstanding for us, and we have seen some good performances, but obviously we are very disappointed with the result.
I had to take Mark Gillespie off mid-way through the second half when he picked up a knock, and that gave Jonny Ball the chance to come on. Their second came shortly before full time when there was a mix up between Ball and Swinglehurst, but we can't be too critical about that.
I've mentioned on a few occasions that we are going to see a lot of inconsistency from this group, and that is still the case. When they are on their game they are very hard to beat but, if they are off the pace and decide to step back they find it very hard. It's a case of working with them and trying to make sure that they understand the importance of starting every game properly but, at the moment, we are still waiting for the penny to drop."
