Carlisle United fans can show their support for the club's bold bid to be a part of the World Cup in 2018 by signing an official Back the Bid book at Brunton Park.

The book, which is to be forwarded to the FA next month, will be in reception at Brunton Park this Friday (OCT 23) and then in the Blues Store on Saturday for the League One fixture against Southend United.

It is part of Sunderland AFC's submission as they bid to be a host city should England win the right to stage the 2018 World Cup.

Besides the Stadium of Light staging matches, Sunderland want to use Middlesbrough, Darlington, Hartlepool and Carlisle United football clubs as satellite training venues, with each being allocated their own international squad.

The FA will decide this December which cities it is officially putting forward to FIFA as its host cities. FIFA will decide the following December which country it has chosen to host the tournament in 2018.

Besides signing the book at Brunton Park, Carlisle fans can also show their support for Sunderland's bid by either registering on-line at www.sunderland2018bid.com or by texting Sunderland 2018, followed by your name, house number and postcode to 62299.

United director and co-owner John Nixon has already sent an official letter from Brunton Park to FIFA boss Sepp Blatter at its headquarters in Switzerland formally expressing the Blues' support for both Sunderland's and England's bids.

The letter says: "Sunderland's bid is a truly regional bid and the team has involved the whole of North of England in its proposal, to ensure that as many places and people as possible benefit from playing a part in the FIFA World Cup™.

"I'm delighted that Carlisle United Football Club's facilities are included in their bid documentation.

"The North of England is a multi-cultural region, renowned for its passion and warm welcome and the people would make the FIFA World Cup a truly memorable occasion."

Thousands of people have already shown their support for Sunderland's bid and the Wearside club - the North East's only representative in the Premier League this season - is encouraging Carlisle United fans to get behind the bid and bring the world's largest sporting event to the North of England.

A spokeswoman said: "While strong public support alone won't secure Sunderland's host city status, it will be taken into consideration by the FA.

"And if Sunderland are successful in their bid, Cumbria can look forward to welcoming some of the world's greatest footballers - and their supporters, so let's welcome the world."
