CARLISLE UNITED 0 NORWICH CITY 1 (Hoolahan 41) FT
1655: A little harsh on United, but if you don't take your chances you get punished. Most of the possession was with the Blues but the visitors always looked a big threat on the break, especially Hoolahan, despite his theatrics. Another 14 days to the next home game, and I'll be there to give you min by min coverage once again.
FULL-TIME - Carlisle United 0 Norwich City 1
90+4 min: Richard Keogh flies into a challenge on Hoolahan, who again goes flying in the air like he's shot. It earns the United man a yellow card.
90+3 min: MBW lets fly with a left-foot shot from 30 yards that Forster is forced to parry wide. The linesman then flags for an offside, despite no United player touching the ball in the follow up!
90+2 min: Another free-kick, this time to Norwich after a theatrical dive from Hoolahan after Taiwo's challenge. It's played long to Holt but he handles the ball and it's a United free-kick.
90+1 min: United have a free-kick in a similar position to the one they had a minute or two ago. Harte takes it again but it's a poor effort that flies over everyone and out for a goal-kick.
90 min: Fourth official has incidated there will be a minimum of four minutes added time.
89 min: It's a good one from harte and forces a good header out of Holt to concede a throw-in near the corner flag. From the long throw by Robson, Norwich get it clear.
88 min: A bit of a rash challenge there by the sub McDonald on Keogh sees the Norwich man pick up a yellow card. Free-kick to United on the right-wing, Harte to take it.
87 min: Norwich make their second change of the afternoon, with Chris Martin coming off for Cody McDonald.
83 min: Dobie is starting to cause a few problems on the flanks and this time wins a corner on the right. Hurst takes it but the ball is cleared back out to him. This time he cuts back onto his left and sends in a low cross but it's easily cleared by Grant Holt.
82 min: United make their second change, with Richard Offiong coming on and Evan Horwood coming off. Tactical change then for the Blues, going 3-4-3 possibly? Norwich make their first change, with youngster George Francomb coming off to be replaced by Tom Adeyemi.
80 min: Great turn by Robson on the left after being played in by Horwood. He advances into the box but his cross is blocked and goes out for a corner. From the corner, Norwich just about get it cleared to safety. Not long after there's a great run down the left by Dobie which sees him get to the byline and cut it back but Anyinsah got himself ahead of play and Norwich clear.
79 min: From a throw-in on the left-wing, MBW hooks the ball into the box and Dobie heads towards goal but it's weak and an easy save for Forster.
78 min: MBW is fouled about 40 yards out and it's a United free-kick. Harte takes it but it's well cleared by the Norwich defence.
76 min: The first corner from Hoolahan lands at a Norwich player's feet at the far post but Livesey boots the ball out for another corner. Lappin takes this one but it's well cleared by the United defence.
75 min: Hurst wins a corner on the right after playing a cross against Lappin. He takes the corner himself but it's cleared to the edge of the box where Keogh appears to be fouled but the ref waves play on. Holt breaks down the middle on the counter and plays it to Lappin but he sees his shot well saved by Pidgeley, giving the visitors a corner.
72 min: Today's attendance is 6,825.
71 min: Martin cuts in from the left again and sends a curling shot just wide of Pidgeley's post. Somehow the referee's found a corner from it when no-one appeared to touch it. Hoolahan sends a high ball into the six-yard box that's headed up by Harte and Holt volleys a chance well over the bar.
70 min: Good ball down the right by Taiwo finds Anyinsah. He turns Askou inside out again, but his cross into the middle is just behind Dobie.
66 min: Another good chance for Anyinsah. Again it's a long ball that has Berthel Askou struggling. The United forward gets goal side of him, but the angle is tight and Forster saves his left-foot shot. Not long after Dobie shakes off his marker and fires a shot on the angle just wide and into the side-netting.
64 min: United make their first change of the afternoon, with Graham Kavanagh coming off and Marc Bridge-Wilkinson coming on.
63 min: United lose possession in the middle and Hoolahan is away. He jinks and turns in the box but the angle is tight and Pidgeley makes a smart stop and concedes a corner. From that corner, Holt heads towards goal but Pidgeley palms away and it comes off a Norwich defender to give United a goal-kick.
62 min: Another incredible tackle from Taiwo! First of all Martin sees his shot blocked by Harte, then Taiwo throws himself at Russel's shot to concede a corner. From the corner, Horwood wins the ball and sends Anyinsah away down the left. He beats two men before being pegged back in the box and then turning to hit a left-foot shot at goal but it's straight at Forster.
59 min: That's a wild effort from Martin. After good work on the left from Norwich, it comes to Martin but he hits a left-foot shot nearer the corner flag than Pidgeley's goal.
57 min: He may be trying to shake off that knock, but that's a magnificent tackle by Taiwo. Norwich break after United lose possession in the centre-circle. It comes to Martin who's about to shoot but from out of nowhere, Taiwo gets a leg in and wins the ball, with Horwood finishing off the job.
56 min: Anyinsah does well down the middle and forces Doherty to slide in and concede a corner. Robson takes it long and Holt is all over Keogh but nothing given. Keogh wins it on the right-wing but Russel forces him wide and wins a goal-kick.
54 min: Quick counter attack from United sees Harte try to pick out Hurst down the right but he's stretching for it and it goes for a goal-kick.
52 min: Finally Taiwo is back on the pitch but sporting a bit of a limp. Looks like he'll be given the chance to shake it off.
51 min: Taiwo is struggling, looks like he'll have to be brought off. Marc Bridge-Wilkinson is getting ready to come on by the looks of things.
49 min: Taiwo currently down injured receiving treatment for an injury caused by a late Russell tackle. Just a talking to for the Norwich City man.
48 min: Up the other end and Norwich go close, with Hoolahan jinking and turning, seeing his initial shot blocked before cutting it back to Smith on the edge of the area but he blazes his shot well over the bar.
47 min: Early opportunity for United, as a ball into the box by Horwood is flicked on by Kav to the onrushing Hurst, but he's forced away from the goal by Doherty and eventually miscontrols the ball, giving Norwich City a goal-kick.
1605: Second-half about to begin, with Norwich City kicking off.
1601: Speaking to a few of the press at half-time, it seems that Norwich's left-winger Simon Lappin was a few yards offside in the build-up to the goal when it was played out to him. Will be an interesting one to see on the Football League Show tonight.
1551: Frustrating once again for United, as switching off at the back costs them. It was a pretty even half, with most of the best chances falling to the Blues. But Hoolahan was the man on the spot to give the Canaries the lead. We'll be back soon for all the second-half action - can the Blues make a comeback infront of the Football League Show cameras?
HALF-TIME - Carlisle United 0 Norwich City 1
45+2 min: It's United's first booking of the afternoon and it goes to Graham Kavanagh for a foul on Wes Hoolahan. Incidently, Hoolahan went down like he was seriously injured but once he realised the ref had played advantage, was up like a shot.
45 min: Hoolahan has a shot from 30 yards but it's straight at Pidgeley, who claims at the second attempt. Fourth official has indicated there will be a minimum of two minutes added time at the end of the first-half.
44 min: Holt almost plays Hoolahan clean through down the middle but Harte comes across to win the ball and play it back to Pidgeley.
43 min: Almost an instant reply from United. Taiwo wins the ball 40 yards out and it falls to Anyinsah. He advances forward before drilling a shot just wide of Forster's right-hand post, with the on-loan Newcastle keeper scrambling to get there.
41 min: GOAL! Carlisle United 0 Norwich City 1 - The visitors have been turning the pressure onto United in the last few minutes and they get their rewards. A soft cross from the left isn't cleared twice and Hoolahan has the easy task of firing past Pidgeley from 8 yards out.
40 min: Another close one for Norwich. Yet again Doherty is given time to hit a long diagonal ball and this time he finds Holt, who heads back to the edge of the area but the bounce catches out Hoolahan and Taiwo clears to safety.
37 min: Almost a comedy goal for Norwich. Doherty is given time and space to try and pick out the left-back Drury on the far side. Harte tries to head back to Pidgeley but it's a weak effort and the United keeper has to save twice at the feet of Drury who evetually gets away and puts the ball into the side netting.
33 min: United win a succession of throw-ins on the right and one is played back to Harte, who sends in a very dangerous whipped cross that Forster drops at first but claims second time, with no-one putting pressure on him.
31 min: Again it's Harte who takes it but it's a bit of a tamer effort and goes wide of Forster's left-hand post.
30 min: Scott Dobie does brilliantly to win the ball back before being fouled about 30 yards out. Free-kick to United, possibly within shooting distance again for Ian Harte. Simon Lappin is booked, I think for the foul but possibly for dissent.
28 min: Graham Kavangh does well to win the ball in midfield before finding Hurst in space. He advances down the middle before hitting a right-foot shot from 25 yards just wide of Forster's goal.
27 min: It's Harte who takes it and he has Forster scrambling as the ball clips the top of the bar and goes over. Good effort from the United defender.
26 min: Norwich very close to conceding a penalty. Dobie is shoved just on the edge of the area and it's a free-kick in a very dangerous position. Harte and Kav both standing over this one...
25 min: Blatant handball from Chris Martin as a long ball was played through but the ball goes straight to Pidgeley who claims it. Danny Livesey not happy with Martin over that one. Up the other end and Robson shows great trickery in the box but the angle is tight and Forster makes a good save, with no-one there to follow-up.
23 min: Up the other end now and Anyinsah goes on a run right down the middle of the pitch from his own half, before being forced slightly wide and eventually sending his left-foot shot well over the bar. Certainly had the Norwich defenders worried there.
22 min: What a tackle by Tom Taiwo (how many times I have said that already this season?). Norwich break on the counter and the ball is played inside by Hoolahan to Holt. He's about to pull the trigger on the edge of the box but Taiwo slides in to make a superb challenge.
20 min: Slowly but surely, United are starting to get into this game more. The crowd are certainly getting behind the Blues well today. A throw-in finds Anyinsah who cuts in from the left flank but his right-foot shot from 20 yards is easily held by Forster.
18 min: Aninysah and Doherty challenge for an aerial ball and the Norwich defender leads with an elbow. Free-kick to United but surprisingly just a talking to for the Irishman. The free-kick from just inside the centre-circle comes to nothing.
16 min: Kav dinks a ball to the far side of the area where Francomb has to head out for a corner with Robson lurking. It's Robson who takes a left-footed outswinging corner that causes chaos in the box, with Harte sliding in but not able to put it past Forster. Best chance of the game so far.
13 min: Long-throw on the left by Robson is cleared but only as far as Kav. He plays it back to Robson who sends a long cross into the six-yard box but Forster comes and confidently claims the ball.
11 min: Chris Martin wins it on the right wing before cutting inside and sending a stinging left-footed shot just over Pidgeley's bar.
7 min: Almost a mix-up at the back for United there. Holt sends in a cross from the right and Pidgeley misses it, but Harte chests it out for a corner. Hoolahan takes it long towards the edge of the box and Hurst clears.
5 min: Quiet start to the game so far, no clear cut chances for either side. Hoolahan does look lively for the visitors, as you'd expect.
1501: United to kick-off this afternoon and they'll be attacking the Waterworks End in the first-half. Ian Harte does appear to be playing at right-back.
1457: The two teams are now coming out to One Step Beyond and are performing the usual line-ups and handshakes before their final warm-ups. Looks like a decent sized crowd this afternoon, including a very healthy following from Norfolk, not too disimilar in size to the one Southampton brought up a couple of weeks ago.
1453: One of the big talking points before today's game has been the battle of the Cumbrian forwards - Scott Dobie and Grant Holt. There's probably little doubt that Holt will get his usual pantomime villain boos this afternoon but that's probably an indication of wht a dangerous player he can be. Interestingly, Holt has only scored once in five games against the Blues, although that penalty he won at Spotland in 2004 still sticks in the mind of many United fans.
1451: The referee for Saturday's game will be David Foster from Tyne & Wear. He last took charge of a United match last November as Blue Square Premier side Grays Athletic visited Brunton Park in the FA Cup First Round.
The non-league side almost caused an upset after taking the lead in the 52nd minute but Gary Madine's 84th minute goal resulted in the game finishing 1-1 and going to a replay, which United won 2-0 (but only at the second attempt after the first game was abandoned due to floodlight failure!). No players on either side were booked by Mr Foster.
Taking up assistant referee duties will be Matthew Bristow and Lee Metcalfe, with Darren Handley in the fourth official role.
1449: As you'd expect with the visit of a former top flight side, the press box is pretty busy this afternoon. There's also plenty of TV cameras here (six to be precise!) as the game will be the main feature match on The Football League Show this evening, on BBC1 at 11.05pm. As ever, the show is also available for seven days after broadcast on the BBC iPlayer.
1440: For the visitors, Darrel Russell and Grant Holt both pass fitness tests and take their places in the starting line-up, but ex-Liverpool defender Jon Otsembor misses out with a hamstring injury. There's also a league debut for young right-back George Francomb, who appeared in the Canaries 1-0 win at Gillingham in the JPT in midweek. He'll have to contend with United's in-form left-winger Matty Robson.
1435: So several changes for the Blues after the 4-2 win over Macclesfield in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy in midweek. Coming back in are Pidgeley, Livesey, Anyinsah, Dobie and Hurst. Also into the starting XI is defender Evan Horwood, replacing the injured David Raven. It'll be interesting to see who lines up at right-back, with early suggestions that Ian Harte could fill in there.
1432: Today's teams are as follows:
Carlisle - Pidgeley, Keogh, Livesey, Harte, Horwood, Hurst, Taiwo, Kavanagh, Robson, Anyinsah, Dobie. Subs - Collin, Bridge-Wilkinson, Murphy, Rothery, Offiong, Tinnion, Madine.
Norwich - Forster, Francomb, Doherty, Berthel Askou, Drury, Hoolahan, Russel, Smith, Lappin, Holt (c), Martin. Subs - Theoklitos, Cureton, Adeyemi, McVeigh, Wiggins, Daly, McDonald.
1427: Afternoon everyone. The big boys in the Premier League and the Championship might be having a weekend off due to internaitonals, but it's very much "as you were" in League 1 this weekend. Visitors to Brunton Park this afternoon are Norwich City, the fourth ex-Premier League side the Blues have faced in the last four weeks. There's plenty of interesting talking points ahead of the game, including the battle of two Cumbrian-born forwards on either side. Team news to follow shortly!
