MIN BY MIN TEXT ACTION - TRANMERE

Posted on: Sat 05 Sep 2009

Live from Brunton Park, Lee Rooney brings you blow by blow action from today's League One game against Tranmere Rovers. Keep pressing refresh on your browser to read the latest update.

CARLISLE UNITED 3 (Anyinsah 59, Livesey 67, Harte 77) TRANMERE ROVERS 0 FT

1656: A comfortable win in the end for United, who totally dominated the second-half and much of the first period too. Rovers can't have many arugments with that red-card for Logan and they look a side totally devoid of confidence. Keep an eye on the official site over the weekend for reaction to today's win and I'll be back next Saturday for the visit of Brighton and Hove Albion.

FULL-TIME - Carlisle United 3 Tranmere Rovers 0

90+3 min: Tranmere win a corner on the right after Harte heads a long free-kick out of play. It comes into the middle where a Rovers player shoots towards goal but it's put out for another corner. McLaren takes this one from the left but Pidgeley comes and palms the ball against a Rovers player and out for a goal-kick.

90+2 min: Offiong wins a corner after his cross on the left is blocked. Robson takes it outswinging from the left but it's headed out for another corner. Robson takes it again and it eventually ends up with Offiong on the right who plays it to Harte on the penalty shot but he sends his right-foot shot wide.

90 min: The fourth official hasn't put the board up yet, even though we're into added on time!

87 min: Edds is almost away on goal down the right and Pidgeley's come a bit far out of his goal. Harte gets back and makes a great tackle though, but the ref strangely gives a goal-kick. Not that I'm complaining, of course...

86 min: Tranmere win a corner on the left that is sent into the six-yard box where Edds heads over after Pidgeley goes walkabout. United make their final change, with Graham Kavanagh coming off and Marc Bridge-Wilkinson coming on.

84 min: Offiong wins a header in the Tranmere half but it's a free-kick to United for a high-foot. Kav takes it quickly to Hurst, who sends in a cross that Offiong gets on the end of but he can't get over the ball and puts it over the bar.

79 min: Robson is away down the left again and advances into the penalty area but he sends his shot crashing over the bar. Meanwhile United make their second change, with goalscorer Joe Anyinsah coming off and youngster Gary Madine taking his place.

77 min: GOAL! Carlisle United 3 Tranmere Rovers 0 - Anyinsah holds it up well on the byline and wins a corner. Robson takes a left-footed outswinger that finds Ian Harte and he powers a header into the back of the net.

75 min: United make that change, with the hard-working Scott Dobie coming off for Offiong.

74 min: Bit of a break in play here as Gunning receives some attention for an injury. Meanwhile, United are getting Richard Offiong ready to make his home debut.

71 min: Little bit of a late tackle from Raven and he becomes the first United player booked this afternoon.

69 min: Very nearly a third for United as Dobie played through the middle but Daniels stays big and blocks his shot before picking up the ball.

67 min: GOAL! Carlisle United 2 Tranmere Rovers 0 - It's a second for United and this pressure is now paying off. Hurst's corner into the middle is cleared and Rovers look to bring it away but Murphy intercepts. He plays in Hurst who sends in a great cross to the far post where Livesey heads the ball into the net off the crossbar.

66 min: Robson has looked a threat all afternoon down the left and almost beats Edds again but wins a corner. The first one from Hurst finds Livesey but he heads against a Rovers player and it's another corner. That's taken short and played to Kav, who sends it in and again it's headed out by a Rovers defender for another corner.

65 min: They're making those two changes now, with Aaron Creswell and Chris Shuker coming off for Ryan Fraughan and Craig Curran.

64 min: Rovers have two players in the tehcnical area waiting to come on but Barnes isn't taking any opportunity to make the change yet. Strange one.

63 min: Robson does well on the left to win the ball off Edds before winning a corner off Gunning. Hurst takes it and sends the ball into the six-yard box but Dobie's ahead of the ball and can only head it wide of goal.

60 min: Rovers finally get out of their own half and win a corner. It's taken long to the far post by Shuker but Pidgeley claims superbly.

59 min: GOAL! Carlisle United 1 Tranmere Rovers 0 - Well, if the Tranmere players weren't disappointed in the ref before that... Robson is played in on the left and lets the ball get very very close to the byline before cutting it back for Anyinsah to tap-in from 8 yards out. The Rovers players are saying the ball went out, but the linesman's flag isn't raised for a goal-kick. Looked very close from up here.

58 min: To give you an idea of how one-sided this second-half has been, Lenny Pidgeley is almost playing as a sweeper on the edge of his own box!

57 min: An excellent deep cross from Hurst almost finds Robson at the far post but it's header out by a Rovers defender for another corner. Hurst takes a better one this time that finds Murphy in the six-yard box but he can't get over the ball and heads wide of Daniels' goal.

55 min: Daniels' confidence is certainly growing. Kav sends in a low shot that's pushed wide for a corner. It's taken outswinging by Hurst but Murphy's flick on is missed by everyone. It does eventually get put back into the middle where Goodison puts it out for another corner but it's not taken well by Hurst and is easily cleared.

52 min: A Kav cross from the right is blocked by Creswell and goes out for a corner. Hurst takes it but he scuffs the ball straight to the man on the post who clears into the United half.

49 min: Good build-up again from United sees Raven, almost playing as a central midfielder, find Hurst on the right. He takes his time to set himself up but his cross is a poor one and goes over everyone and out for a goal-kick.

46 min: United attack straight from the start. First Anyinsah cuts in from the left-side of the area and sees his pile-driver parried away by Daniels, before Thirlwell's shot is blocked and Hurst then sees his drive also saved.

1603: Both teams are now out on the pitch again and ready to kick-off. Tranmere making a change, with Ash Taylor coming on for Alan Mahon. An expected change but strange one bringing Mahon off, who looked the most dangerous player for the visitors.

1550: Well, what a bizarre ending to the half! It's not been the best of the games to be honest but that decision has brought the game to life. Rovers keeper Daniels is still complaining to the ref as the teams come off at half-time but surely the visitors can't have any complains about that. It was two blatant bookings and Logan has put his side in an even tougher situation. United will now look to take advantage of that extra man in the second-half. More from me shortly.

HALF-TIME - Carlisle United 0 Tranmere Rovers 0

45+1 min: There's going to be a minimum of one minute time added on.

45 min: Incredible! From the free-kick for that foul, it's knocked long and Logan leads with an elbow against Robson and gets his second booking and is off!

45 min: First booking of the afternoon is given to Tranmere's on-loan Man City defender Shaleum Logan after he stops Robson getting away from him with something more akin to a rubgy tackle.

43 min: United get a free-kick just inside the Tranmere half. Harte takes it long and Livesey is getting his shirt pulled all over the place but incredibly, the ref gives a free-kick to Rovers! That one hasn't pleased the United faithful.

42 min: Free-kick to United. It's about 25 yards out and Kav and Harte are standing over it. It's going to be Harte to take it and he strikes it beautifully, but Daniels stands watching as it crashes back off the crossbar.

40 min: Corner to the visitors. McLaren takes it and sends one into the six-yard box but Pidgeley comes through a bunch of players to punch to safety.

39 min: Another chance for The Blues, who are just starting to get a grip on the game. Hurst's corner is flicked down by Livesey into the six-yard box but is cleared by Gunning. It only goes as far as Robson, who cuts in from the right and sends in a stinging low shot that Daniels does well to parry away from danger.

38 min: A few chances in a row there for United, as Anyinsah has a thresh-air shot from a Dobie knock-down and then Thirlwell's shot is blocked by Goodison.

37 min: Nice build-up play by United in the Tranmere half sees the ball come to Kav on the edge of the area but his powerful shot takes two deflections and goes straight at Daniels.

35 min: What a vital tackle that was from Gavin Gunning. Dobie's about to shoot after being setup superbly by Anyinsah, but the on-loan Blackburn Rovers player gets a foot on it and clears.

34 min: Raven knocks it long and Dobie gets a flick-on that Hurst just gets to before Goodison. He's round his man but the ball won't sit up right for him and his shot is blocked and goes for a corner. Hurst takes that but it's cleared back out to him and from his second cross, Livesey heads over from six yards out.

33 min: Tranmere are starting to get a bit of confidence here, as Thomas-Moore has a crack from 25 yards and sees the ball go a few yards wide of Pidgeley's goal.

32 min: A long-range effort from Mahon takes a deflection and goes just wide of Pidgeley's right-hand post. The corner from the right is wasted though. Another corner follows shortly after but that's easily caught by Pidgeley in his six-yard box.

30 min: A bit better from Daniels, as he punches away a stinging 18 yard shot from Thirlwell. Took the right option that time.

29 min: Daniels isn't having the best of games here. He comes racing out for a ball on the right-hand side of his box that he's got no chance of getting. Hurst gets there first and lays it off for Anyinsah but despite Daniels being in no mans land, there's about six players guarding the goal and he can't get a shot away.

28 min: Another very close shave for the visiting goal. Robson takes a long-throw near the left-wing corner flag that misses the flick-on from Dobie at the near post and goes across the six-yard box about two yards out and goes out for a goal kick on the far side.

26 min: Some brilliant determination from Matty Robson on the left. He battles about five or six times in a row to win the ball, finally does and lays it off to Harte but his right-foot cross has way too much on it and goes out for a goal kick.

24 min: Chris Shuker almost sneaks through on goal after beating Murphy and Livesey, but Raven comes across to make an excellent covering tackle as the former Man City player is about to pull the trigger.

21 min: Tranmere's first shot of the afternoon comes from former Republic of Ireland international Alan Mahon, but he hits it straight at Pidgeley.

20 min: Anyinsah is played in down the right-wing by Hurst. He tries to hook the ball into the box for Dobie but he can't get any accuracy on the pass and it's behind the West Cumbrian forward.

18 min: A few tackles flying in from United players now while Tranmere struggle to keep hold of the ball. Certainly lifting the spirits of the fans in the Main Stand, who are showing their appreciation for the effort from the Lads in Blue.

16 min: No, we aren't having technical problems, it really has been this uneventful so far. In fact, the most excitement so far was a brief invasion of the old hospital radio box by a wasp. Danger averted now, it's gone for a look around the B-Stand!

10 min: How on earth did that not go in? Good possession play from United sees the ball fall to Harte about 25 yards out. He sends in a right-foot show straight at Daniels, who spills it but turns to watch the ball fly just wide of his right-hand post. The resulting corner from Hurst on the left finds Dobie at the far post but he's stretching for it and can only head over.

6 min: Bit of a slow start to the game this afternoon. United have just had their first chance, with Hurst getting to the byline and sending in a cross but it's well claimed by Rovers keeper Luke Daniels.

2 min: Tranmere win an early free-kick on the left-wing, about 20 yards in the United half. Alan Mahon takes the free-kick long into the box but the ref blows his whistle very quickly to signal a foul and a free-kick to United.

1502: Tranmere get us underway, with United kicking towards the Waterworks End in the first-half.

1500: As usual, Paul Thirlwell is United's captain this afternoon while Ian Thomas-Moore is captain for the visitors. For those of you wondering who this Thomas-Moore fella is, he is of course none other than Ian Moore, who got married this summer and decided to take on his wife's surname along with his own.

1459: The two teams are now out on the pitch and doing the usual line-ups and handshakes while One Step Beyond blasts over the tannoy. Tranmere are wearing what can only be described as a fairly garish looking lime green away kit. We've seen some bad away kits in the last few seasons at Brunton Park, but this one's up with the very best/worst of them!

1456: Calling all twits! No, I'm not insulting you, I am of course referring to the social networking phenomenon of "Twitter". Everyone's getting in on the act, including United Media Officer and Kit Man Andy Hall. He'll be keeping you up to date with what his job entails and a few interesting bits here and there throughout the season (including the progress of getting proper-sized kit for Dennis Booth!) Follow him now by clicking here.

1453: The referee for  todays game is Carl Boyeson from East Yorkshire. He last took charge of a United match in August 2007 as United travelled to West Yorkshire to take on Huddersfield. It was The Blues who ran out 2-0 winners that afternoon thanks to goals from Danny Livesey and Joe Garner in the first-half. No players from either side were booked that afternoon. Taking up assistant referee duties will be Dave McCallum and Danny Roberts, with Gary Beswick in the fourth official role.

1445: For the visitors Tranmere, there's just one change from the side that lost 4-0 at home to Charlton Athletic, with Terry Gornell dropping to the bench and Gareth Edds replacing him. Now, I don't like to put a jinx on things, but I'm bound to by giving you these statistics - Rovers have lost all of their last four games and failed to score in any of them.

1442: So for United it's all change from Tuesday night. Coming out are Collin, Kane, Horwood, Burns, Madine and Offiong, with Pidgeley, Livesey, Harte, Thirlwell, Anyinsah and Dobie coming in. It's basically the same side that started against Leyton Orient last weekend, with Graham Kavanagh replacing the injured Tom Taiwo.

1439: Here's that team news for you:

United - Pidgeley, Raven, Livesey, Murphy, Harte, Hurst, Kavanagh, Thirlwell, Robson, Anyinsah, Dobie. Subs - Collin, Kane, Horwood, Bridge-Wilkinson, Rothery, Madine, Offiong.

Tranmere - Daniels, Logan, Creswell, Edds, Goodison, McLaren, Thomas-Moore, Mahon, Welsh, Gunning, Shuker. Subs - Collister, Taylor, Gornell, Ricketts, Barnett, Fraughan, Curran.

1436: Afternoon everyone, and welcome to this afternoon's Minute by Minute report. Last time we did a Min by Min report, glorious sunshine basked over Brunton Park as Exeter nicked a 1-0 win. This afternoon conditions down Warwick Road are, to say the least, a bit damper. The rain's stopped for now though and the pitch looks in good nick so hopefully it'll help both teams produce some good football this afternoon. Team news to follow shortly!
