CARLISLE UNITED 0 EXETER CITY 1 (Stewart pen 73) FT
1658: What an incredibly frustrating afternoon for United. They dominated most of the possession and chances but just couldn't get a clear-cut one and convert it into a goal. The penalty will be an interesting one to see again on the Football League show this evening. United's next game is Wednesday night at Bristol City in the Carling Cup, followed by a trip to Leyton Orient next weekend. I'll be back in two-weeks for the Tranmere Rovers game.
FULL-TIME - Carlisle United 0 Exeter City 1
90+3 min: Murphy is penalised for a foul on the edge of the box on Logan. Looked the other way around to me. Murphy is booked for it. Exeter take the opportunity to get it into the corner and waste time.
90+1 min: Madine is hauled down by Taylor, giving United a free-kick about 35-yards out. Harte sends in a cross but that's catching practice for Jones.
90 min: Robson take a long-throw from the left that's headed out for a corner by Tully. Kav goes over and takes it and it's cleared but leads to another corner. Three minutes added time! The next corner by Hurst finds Madine but he's stretching for it and heads it well wide.
89 min: Exeter make their final change of the day, with Marcus Stewart coming off and former United player Rob Edwards coming on in his place. Edwards receives a very warm welcome from the United fans, while Stewart gets more than a bit of stick!
88 min: Great cross by Harte into the middle sees an Exeter defender head it out but a goalkick is given. Dobie's not happy, and understandably so.
87 min: Saunders brings down Robson on the left byline and it's a free-kick to United just inline with the 18-yard line. Harte takes an outswinger that Madine gets on but Archibald-Henville gets in the way and it's a corner. Hurst takes the corner which is headed out by Taylor for another corner. That corner is headed away by Logan for a throw-in.
85 min: Duffy blocks a Hurst cross with his hand and it's a free-kick for United on the right-wing. Harte's kick is poor though, too low and easily headed away.
84 min: Dinked cross deep to the far post by Hurst where Robson's lurking but Tully heads out for a corner. Kav sends it in to the six-yard box where Madine gets on the end of it but he can't get over the ball and puts it over the bar for a goal kick.
82 min: Good forward run by Murphy, who lays it to Kav. He plays it outwide to Robson who sends in a cross that Jones claims but then spills, but there's no-one looking to pick up the pieces for United. Unsurprisingly, Exeter look more than happy with this and aren't showing much ambition to get a second.
77 min: United make that change now, with Joe Anyinsah coming off for Gary Madine.
76 min: United are going to make their first change in a minute, with Gary Madine getting himself ready to come on.
75 min: Logan's first involvement is to pick up a booking for pulling back Livesey just inside the Exeter half. Kav sends in a deep free-kick but it's out for a goal-kick at the far post.
74 min: Exeter make a second change, with Richard Logan coming on for Barry Corr.
73 min: GOAL! Carlisle United 0 Exeter City 1 (Stewart) - Stewart waits for Pidgeley to dive before sending a cheeky chip down the middle. Pidgeley almost stopped it with his trailing leg, but he couldn't quite get to it. Totally against the run of play that goal.
72 min: PENALTY to Exeter! Stewart appears to beat the offside trap and is through, Pidgeley comes out to meet him but brings him down and it's a penalty. Looked close that one. Pidgeley is also booked.
70 min: Today's attendance is 5,156.
67 min: Robson so close to the opener! He intercepts the ball on the halfway line and goes on a mazy run to the edge of the box where he unleashes a shot that Jones spills and it looks like it might sneak in but just goes wide of the post. The resulting corner by Hurst comes to nothing and is cleared.
63 min: Cross from the right by Tully sees Livesey head the ball out for a corner. Harley takes it on the right, sending in an outswinger that Stewart gets on the end of but Pidgeley does very well to claim in the air among a crowd of players.
55 min: Exeter win a corner after Kav blocks a Tully cross from the right. Harley takes it but Murphy rises in the six-yard box to head out for a throw-in on the right.
53 min: Lovely cross field ball by Murphy finds Hurst. He takes a great touch and sends in a cross to the far post that Tully is forced to head out for a corner. Kav takes it and Livesey connects in the six-yard box but his header is cleared off the line by Tully. There's another two corners after that, the second of which falls to Hurst outside the area but his volley is miles over the bar.
51 min: The ref's spotted that Corr's face is bleeding again and orders him off to have some work done on it, so the visitors are again down to ten men.
49 min: Russell has a dig from 25 yards for the visitors but it takes a big deflection off Raven and goes for a corner on the right. Harley takes the corner but it's easily headed away at the near post by Kav.
47 min: Robson does well to get a cross in that's headed away by Archibald-Henville. It eventually falls to Kav on the edge of the box but his low volley goes well wide of Jones' right hand post.
1607: Both teams are now back out waiting to start the game. Exeter have made a change, with Berti Cozic coming off and Neil Saunders coming on. Exeter get the game underway again.
1604: Ever wondered what the view I have of the game is like? Well here's a photo of what I see from the old hospital radio press box...
1603: Bit of AC/DC blasting over the tannoy at Brunton Park, with Nixon Vixen's doing an impromptu routine to it! Seems to be plenty of optimism among the fans outside the main stand at half-time, here's hoping it's well placed.
1551: Decent half of football that. United dominated for long periods but Exeter played some good passing football and sometimes threatened on the break. Dobie looks a big threat for United getting on the end of crosses, while the Grecians defence has struggled to cope with Anyinsah's pace. Could be in for a cracking second-half here. We'll be back soon.
HALF-TIME - CARLISLE UNITED 0 EXETER CITY 0
45 min: Liam Sercombe has a crack from 25 yards but his shot goes well wide of Pidgeley's goal. There will be a minimum of two minutes time added on at the end of the first-half.
44 min: Corr has finally returned! The visitors are now back up to 11 men.
42 min: Kav gets down the left but sees his cross blocked and goes out for a corner. Kav takes it into the middle but there's a goalmouth scramble and it's cleared. There's a few more goalmouth scrambles before it comes to Anyinsah on the edge who flicks it up and turns and volleys but there's not enough power to beat Jones. Would have been a stunning goal if it had.
41 min: Barry Corr is still in the visiting dressing room getting treatment on that facial injury and Exeter are struggling to cope with United's extra man.
40 min: A couple corners in succcession there. The first leads to another corner. The second is whipped to the far post by Hurst where Livesey heads back across goal and Dobie sidefoots towards goal but Jones makes a good block and it's cleared.
39 min: Brilliant run down the middle by Anyinsah and he plays it to Robson. He dinks a great cross to the far post where Dobie's lurking but it's an Exeter defender who gets in and heads it against his own post.
38 min: Good play again by Anyinsah, laying it to Kav who sends Robson away down the left with a great pass. He hits a first time low cross that Dobie's set to tap in but it's a great tackle by Archibald-Henville. Hurst takes the corner into the six-yard box where Dobie connects with it but heads over. United are well on top at the moment.
37 min: Still no sign of Corr coming back, which means the visitors are still down to ten men. Hurst gets in a dangerous low cross from the right but it's straight into Jones hands.
34 min: Corr's gone down the tunnel now to get a few stitches on that cut. Meanwhile United break as Anyinsah holds it up well and sends Robson away down the left. He gets to the touchline and dinks in a cross but it's easy stuff for Jones to claim.
32 min: Tom Taiwo doesn't half like to get stuck in. He makes another great challenge to win a header but he clashes heads with Corr. The exeter man has to come off to have a badly cut nose worked on by his physio, while Taiwo is straight back on. Made of tough stuff is Tom!
30 min: The game's just starting to get a bit scrappy. Both sides are trying to play some neat and tidy passing football but just can't keep hold of the ball long enough at the moment.
28 min: Chance for Exeter, as Liam Sercombe advances on goal but he drags his 20 yards left-foot shot well wide of Pidgeley's left-hand post.
27 min: Dobie shows great place to beat two defenders down the middle from Hurst's long ball but Archibald-Henville gets back and makes an excellent tackle as Scott looks to pull the trigger. Hurst takes another excellent corner that almost falls to Livesey's feet at the far post but he's stretching and can't get on it.
23 min: Anyinsah wins the ball down the left again, lays it off for Robson who sends in a terrific cross that Dobie gets on the end of but sends the ball wide. Tough chance, he was stretching back to reach it and was unsighted by a defender.
22 min: Dobie wins a flick on that drops for Kav about 25 yards out but he drags his shot well wide of the goal.
20 min: Kav clears a ball from the edge of the box and the man stood next to him, Exeter's Barry Corr goes down clutching his head, claiming there was an elbow. Looked nothing like that and he's right back up and guarunteed he's going to get some stick from the United fans for the rest of the game!
18 min: Danny Livesey just had to play about 2 mins without his left boot! He did pretty well too, even getting a tackle! Taiwo's just been penalised for what looked like a good tackle. It's about 30 yards out, Russell sends in a cross but it's flicked up and easily claimed by Pidgeley.
14 min: Dobie does well down the left and looks like he's going to get past "Archie" but he sticks a foot in and concedes a corner. Hurst takes it from the left and it's an excellent delivery that Kav almost gets on, then it loops up and Harte's ready to head in but that man Archie is there again to clear.
12 min: Exeter defender Steve Tully brings down Matty Robson about 35 yards out on the left-wing. Harte takes the free-kick, sending it long to the far post where Danny Livesey heads it across goal but it goes just wide of the far post. Difficult chance but very close to opening the scoring.
9 min: Exeter's manager Paul Tisdale is looking very deep in thought stood by the dugout. Very smartly dressed though, possibly the smartest dressed manager at Brunton Park since Roddy?
8 min: Good player on the right by Hurst, who gets to the byline then plays it back for Raven, He sends in a cross but it's well headed out by Archibald-Henville (might refer to him as "Archie" from now on to save my fingers the hassle!)
6 min: Taiwo wins another free-kick, this time just inside the Exeter half on the left-wing. Harte takes the free-kick long but it goes straight into the hands of Exeter keeper Jones.
4 min: Good ball down the left-wing by Kav sees great persistence from Anyinsah to win the ball. He gets to the byline and dinks in a cross but it's headed out to the edge of the area and there's no United players there.
2 min: United win an early free-kick after Taiwo's brought down. It's forty yards out and Kav takes it, whipping a ball in but it's cleared to Robson on the wing, who sees his cross blocked.
1 min: United line-up 4-4-2 in the same way as Tuesday night, with Dobie and Anyinsah upfront.
1502: United get us underway, kicking towards the Waterworks End in the first-half.
1501: United's captain this afternoon is Danny Livesey, not sure who the captain for Exeter is as they've got a not very helpful combination of black numbers and letters on red!
1459: The two teams are now out for the usual line-up and handshakes before the game (I still prefer the good old Kev Gray charge out to be honest!). Both teams wearing their "home" kits this afternoon as the sun continues to beat down on the pitch, which looks in excellent nick.
1456: You can of course, follow live commentary on today's game if you are a subscriber to United Player. Commentary on Player is via Radio Cumbria, with James Phillips and Jeff Thorpe. Big congratulations to Jeff as well, as he recently got married!
1451: Now, I'm not one to suggest that you can put a curse on something, but after a great start to the season Richard Keogh is out injured today. So who's the featured player in the programme and had an excellent "IN KEOGH WE TRUST" flag on-show for the first time on Tuesday night? It's a bit unlucky, like the old "Player of the Season" curse that used to see the best performers at the club one season suffer a massive loss of form the following campaign! Let's hope Richard's back again soon, there should be more on his injury in next week's injury update with Dolly here on the official site.
1447: For the visitors, their forward line features the vastly experienced forward Marcus Stewart. The talented former Bristol Rovers and Sunderland forward has a sweet left peg and despite not being as quick as he used to, still has a great football brain. On the bench is a familiar face to United fans - player-coach Rob Edwards. He began his career at United as a trainee over 16 years ago before being sold to Bristol City. He's admitted this could be his last season as a pro so he'll be looking forward to today's game.
1443: So it's just the one change to the starting line-up that won 2-1 at Stockport County on Tuesday night. Coming in for United is Peter Murphy, with Richard Keogh out with an ankle injury picked up in that win at Edgeley Park. Coming onto the bench in place of Marc Bridge-Wilkinson is first-year pro Conor Tinnion.
1440: Here's that team news as promised:
United - Pidgeley, Raven, Harte, Livesey, Muprhy, Hurst, Robson, Kavanagh, Taiwo, Dobie, Anyinsah. Subs - Collin, Horwood, Rothery, Tinnion, Burns, Kane, Madine.
Exeter - Jones, Tully, Duffy, Russell, Taylor, Harley, Corr, Cozic, Stewart, Sercombe, Archibald-Henville. Subs - Marriott, Seabourne, Golbourne, Edwards, Saunders, Logan, Norwood.
1435: Afternoon everyone. Glorious sunshine is basking over Brunton Park today, stark contrast to the weather in the city yesterday. Hopefully United will produce some football this afternoon to match the weather, though I'm sure Exeter CIty will have something to say about that! The team news will be coming up shortly.
