BACK TO THE NITTY GRITTY

Posted on: Tue 11 Aug 2009

United defender Richard Keogh spoke to us after the Brentford game and admitted the excitement of starting the new season but the disappointment of the failure by The Blues to convert chances.

He said: "It was nice to get down to the nitty gritty of the season proper. Pre-season's important of course but this is where you earn your bread and butter, so it was exciting to start the season but the result was a big disappointment.

"It started a bit slowly, it was like we were feeling each other out. Then Brentford hit us on a set-piece and sometimes that can be a confidence killer but we came back quickly with Hartey's penalty and we maybe could have been 2 or 3 up at half-time but we didn't take our chances.

"Then we come out in the second-half, concede another sloppy goal and it puts us on the back foot and we're chasing the game. You never want to concede just after half-time as it leaves you chasing the game.

"Everyone's really disappointed about it, I don't think there was much in the game. We started alright before conceding the first goal and then were maybe the better side after equalising but that's the difference, if you don't take your chances you get punished for it.

"We're glad we've got another game coming up straight away. Hopefully we can take more of our chances against Oldham and get in the lead because I think we're a better side when we get our noses in front."
