WE WANT TO ROUND IT OFF

Posted on: Thu 02 Jul 2009

Manager Greg Abbott spoke more about the transfer uncertainty surrounding keeper Ben Williams this morning at a specially arranged training session with open invitation to the press.

He said: "We're hopeful that we will have some more news on it by the end of today.

"We want to round off the ongoing goalkeeping saga and I've put a bit of pressure on Colchester to try to find out where they want to take it.

"We do hope to hear something today but, if not, we might end up calling it off. It'll either go one way or the other, and that will enable us to do something off the back of that. Hopefully by the weekend there will be some movement in and out.

"I'm not going to deny that it is a swap deal involving Scott Vernon. We have tried to keep that quiet, because that's the way that we do business, but I think that the majority of people are aware that it his name that has been talked about. It would be a swap for Ben and we would get a little bit on top of that.

"If we can get a keeper of the same quality as Ben to push Adam Collin for the number one spot then it works out as a decent deal for us."
