United gaffer Greg Abbott is still unclear as to where he stands with regards to the position of striker Danny Graham.

Graham rejected the offer a new two-year deal with United shortly after the end of last season but has not, as yet, committed himself to another club.

Abbott said: "The Danny Graham situation hasn't been resolved yet, so we have to wait and see what happens with that, and then we can make the decision on what it is that we want to do.

"We do have some forwards on our radar, and we are working behind the scenes on that, but we do want to wait and see what happens with Danny as well."

"We have Gary Madine here," he told us, "and we do have to remember that. At some point we have to give him the platform so that he can go on and show us what he can do. He'll certainly get his chances in pre-season to do that with us, and it may be that he really kicks on from there.

"We know with Gary that he has got ability, but what we also need to know is just how quickly that is going to come out. If he comes back flying, then there's every chance that we will be happy with the amount of competition that we have in that position. We also have Joe Anyinsah and Scott Dobie so, if we do add one more forward to the mix, then it could be a very strong area for us."

"It is a frustrating situation with Danny Graham," he admitted, "because until he goes we don't really know what kind of position we are in ourselves. I'd be delighted if it was the case that I was able to tell you that he had got himself a club, because I am anxious to move forward and move on from where we are now. However, there is nothing much that we can do but wait and see with this one."

"Both Danny Graham and Cleveland Taylor will be back here on 1 July if nothing else is fixed up for them. I would expect Danny's agent to have something in the pipeline and that it will be done by then but, if it isn't, then he will have come back and join us for training."

"I wouldn't have thought that Danny would want to miss pre-season," he said. "I would also think that he will want to be with his new club as soon as possible because he has just had seven weeks away. He will want to get his fitness levels up as quickly as he can so that he isn't behind the curve on that.

"I'm certain that something will have moved by the end of next week with his situation. Certainly if I was a player who didn't have a club to go to on the first day of July then I'd be fighting my agent to get it sorted. He's a footballer who is paid to play the game, and I'm sure he wants to be doing that as soon as he can be.

"Just to be clear on where we stand as a club, legally we have to train him if he doesn't find somewhere else. His contract will extend until the end of July, but we'll cross that bridge once we find out what is going on with him."
