A FINAL FAREWELL
The funeral of BBC Radio Cumbria's much-loved Carlisle United commentator Derek Lacey will be held at the Carlisle Crematorium at 11-40am next Wednesday morning.
The service is an open invitation, with a return to the Sunset Suite / Sponsors Lounge at Brunton Park, Warwick Road, at 1pm for a light buffet and an opportunity to swap memories about one of Carlisle's true gentlemen.
The commentary box in B Stand will be open for access for the laying of flowers, cards and tributes from 1pm onwards. Donations for Derek's favourite charity will be advised on the day.
Media officer Andy Hall said: "I've spoken to so many people today who are all saying the same thing, and that is that the news just hasn't sunk in yet.
"It's amazing just how big a part of the matchday experience he was for everybody, work colleagues and fans alike, and I don't think it will really dawn on us as to how much we are going to miss him until the pre-season fixtures come round. I think it's very fitting that we will be able to say goodbye to him here at Brunton Park, as it was definitely his home from home."
Meanwhile Derek's family have expressed a wish for one minute of applause ahead of kick off at the opening game of the season against Brentford on Saturday 8 August.
The thoughts of everyone are with Hilary and his family and friends at this very sad time.
