COACH JOINS SHREWS
Goalkeeper coach Dave Timmins will team up with Shrewsbury boss Paul Simpson once more when he moves to the Prostar Stadium at the beginning of July.
Timmins initially left Gay Meadow three-seasons ago but will return to his old stamping ground next month having had spells at Brunton Park and Deepdale in the interim period.
He said: "I really have enjoyed my time with Carlisle United.
"Cumbria is a lovely County and it is a lovely part of the world. I had a good time here when I was part-time first time round, so when I was offered a full-time post I didn't hesitate to accept it."
On his pending move, he told us: "I've known Paul Simpson for a number of years and I do think an awful lot of him.
"I know him privately as well as professionally and that is the reason why I have agreed to make the move down to Shrewsbury. The fact that we have worked so well together in the past made it an easier decision to make, and I think that pre-season is also a good time to come to a decision like this."
"Greg has his first pre-season ahead of him," he said, "and I know that he wants to have a focus in the squad from day one, so it was only right that I made the decision quickly. That gives him the time to get his replacement in so that he can move on and continue to move the club forward."
"I am gutted for the keepers," he added, "because Ben [Williams] did so well in the second half of the season. Adam Collin has been in since November and he has been superb as well. Mark Gillespie is going into his second-year and I think a lot of him, and if he takes the bull by the horns this season then he has a great chance of making it. Jon Ball looks a really exciting prospect, so there are some good things here for the new keeper coach to work with when he comes in. Leaving those lads behind is never easy, but that's football and I'm sure that they'll support the next coach as much as they supported me."
"It's a case of starting again for us at Shrewsbury," he said.
"Paul only has one senior keeper at the moment, so he'll be busy trying to get another one in as well. Once that is done it will be a case of knuckling down and pushing on, so it will be something new to get my teeth into."
"Unfortunately I have had to tell Greg the news whilst he is away on holiday," he explained, "but he fully understood the reasons behind the decision.
"That's not the best situation to be in, but I wanted to give him as much notice as possible. We will be meeting face-to-face when he gets back on Tuesday so that we can have a chat, but he was great with me throughout the conversation. He knows that things like this are all part of the game, and it really has been excellent working with him and Dennis [Booth] over the course of this last season."
"I've also had a chat with Ben Williams," he added, "and I'd like to go on record again to say just how well he performed last season. He showed everyone what he is about, and I know that he will get better and better from here."
"I'd like to say a huge thanks to John Nixon and the board," he concluded. "They have been fantastic with me and they have backed us up every step of the way. They really are trying to keep this club moving in the right direction and, with the hard work that is done here, I'm sure that will be the case for them next season. Like I say, Greg and Dennis have been magnificent, and they are determined to get the results and success that the fans deserve. Dennis was instrumental in bringing me here, and I'll always be grateful for that. It's always a shame to part with people as you move on, but it genuinely is just part and parcel of the game."
