PLAYERS IN ON TRIAL

Posted on: Fri 27 Mar 2009

Carlisle United manager Greg Abbott is running the rule over two trial players over the course of the next few training sessions as he looks ahead to next season.

Cian Hughton

20-year-old former U19 Republic of Ireland defender Cian Hughton, a Spurs Academy product and son of former Ireland star Chris Hughton, has teamed up with the Cumbrians as he looks to secure a place at a new club.

Also in is 19-year-old forward/winger Craig Mahon, another player who has been capped for Ireland at U19 level.

Craig Mahon

Mahon started his football as a trainee in Dublin and signed Youth forms for Wigan in 2006. He spent one month on loan with Accrington Stanley in November but will be released from his contract with the Latics in the summer.

Greg Abbott said: "We've heard good things about both players and it does us no harm at all to have a look at them to see what they can do.

"They joined us on Thursday and had a really good day, and they will train with us and we will use them in the Reserve game against Preston on Monday afternoon to see how they perform. Obviously we aren't considering them for this season, so there's no pressure on any of us in that way. It's simply a case of all parties having a look at each other and we can take it from there."
