CARLISLE UNITED 1 (Neal 53) STOCKPORT COUNTY 2 (Blizzard 6, Rowe 70) FT
1655: Frustrating afternoon for United, who had enough chances to get something out of the game but ended up with nothing. The visitors impressed on the counter but looked vunerable at the back. Despite conceding two, it was a confident performance from Ben Williams in the United goal too, who gets a good reception from the United fans as he walks off. I'll be back again next Saturday for the visit of Bristol Rovers so join me at the usual time for your Min by Min report.
FULL-TIME - Carlisle United 1 (Neal 53) Stockport County 2 (Blizzard 6, Rowe 70)
90+3 mins: A blocked United clearance looks like it's going through to B Williams but the wind holds it up. Rowe is almost away but Kane gets back well and blocks the shot. A minute later, another chance for Rowe but it's well saved by B Williams and goes out for a corner.
90+1 mins: Both sides make a late change. Coming off is Oli Johnson, with James Vincent coming on to replace him. For United, it's Evan Horwood coming off for Scott Dobie.
90 mins: There will be a minimum of four minutes added time at the end of the game.
89 mins: Bridges gives away a free-kick near the left corner flag. The free-kick is whipped in and falls to a County attacker at the far post but B Williams comes out and blocks it well. The resulting corner is again punched away by B Williams, who looks a lot more confident this afternoon.
87 mins: Bridges picks it up on the edge of the box and twists and turns before hitting his first shot against the defender. He hits another one that again hits a defender and it falls to Murphy on the edge of the box but his right-footed shot goes wide of the post.
86 mins: O'Grady beats Keogh on the right and drills a low shot towards the post but B Williams gets down well to save it.
85 mins: Taylor picks up the ball on the right and lofts in a great cross but no-one's at the far post to pick it up. County make their first change, with Matty Mainwaring coming off for Paul Turnbull.
81 mins: United make their first change of the afternoon, with Michael Bridges coming on to replace Joe Anyinsah.
80 mins: Graham wins a free-kick on the right and Kav whips it in but it's cleared by the defence for a throw-in. Kav takes that and sends a long one in that eventually lands to Neal. He turns in the box and wins a corner. From that corner, it lands to Murph who does the same as Neal, turning and winning a corner. From that kick, the ball is punched cleared by O F Williams and lands at the feet of Kane but he sends his shot well over the bar.
78 mins: Horwood sends in a long cross from the left and Taylor heads it back across goal but O F Williams confidently catches it with Graham waiting to head in.
75 mins: Today's attendance is 5,930.
74 mins: United are back on the attack and Taylor picks it up on the corner of the box. He gets to the byline and hits a great low ball across the six-yard box but it's just behind Graham and Anyinsah.
70 mins: GOAL! Carlisle United 1 Stockport County 2 (Rowe) - County on the counter-attack again and they're back in the lead but under controversial circumstances. The ball out wide looks like it's gone out for a goal-kick but the linesman doesn't give it and after B Williams blocks Rowe's first shot, the striker slides in and puts the visitors in front.
68 mins: Golden chance for County. O'Grady is allowed to run half the length of the field and he then plays it out to the right. It's played in and Rowe has a chance to tap it in but he some how scuffs it and Thirlwell puts it out for a corner. The resulting kick from Rowe is another good one but B Williams once again punches it clear.
65 mins: Kav keeps possession for a long time in midfield and eventually finds Neal. He plays it to the edge of the box to Anyinsah who lays it off for Graham but his low shot is straight at O F Williams who holds on to it.
64 mins: United win a corner on the right that's whipped in by Kav. O F Williams just about gets something on it but it falls to Keogh 8 yards out. He smashes it towards goal but O F Williams gets his body in the way and it goes for another corner. Kav takes it again but it's easily claimed this time by the County stopper.
63 mins: Referee Bratt is starting to give some debatable decision. First he gives a throw to County that looked to have come off one of their players. Then he fails to spot a blatant foul-throw. County build an attack from it with Blizzard doing well to beat two United players in the box but Kane heads his cross out for a corner. The first one is cleared out again for a corner and the second one sees B Williams just about get something on it despite pressure from about 4 or 5 players.
61 mins: Rose goes down very easily 30 yards from goal under a challenge by Thirlwel. The ref gives the free-kick and Rose picks himself up to take it but it's straight at the wall and the resulting ball back into the box is confidently taken by B Williams.
59 mins: United have a corner but County get it clear. They break upfield and it falls to Johnson who has just Kane to beat. Looks like he's beaten him but Kane gets in a great block and it's a corner. The corner's whipped in and B Williams does well to punch away under pressure.
56 mins: I'll be amazed if Rose doesn't finish this game with at least a booking. He's flying in to a lot of challenges and sooner or later he's not going to get the ball but the man instead.
53 mins: GOAL! Carlisle United 1 (Neal) Stockport County 1 - Stockport look like they're going to break down their right but Horwood gets a great intercepting tackle. The ball falls to Lewis Neal who advances towards goal. The defender backs off and he smashes a low shot into the far corner past O F Williams and into the far corner. Great strike and a great start to the second-half for the Blues!
52 mins: County win a corner on the right that's whipped in by Rowe and it goes just over B Williams' bar in the middle of the goal.
51 mins: First booking of the afternoon and it's Tony Kane who picks it up for a late tackle. Looks a poor decision as he didn't seem to touch the man.
48 mins: United win a corner on the right that's whipped in by Kav and eventually cleared. Murphy has the ball on the right but his low cross is also cleared.
46 mins: A comedy moment to start the second-half. Taylor wins a throw-in which Rose thinks should be a free-kick to him. Irate at the decision. Rose charges in when the throw is played to Taylor and catches his own team-mate in the thigh with his studs. Looks a nasty injury for Tunnicliffe, the man he caught. Amazed the ref didn't punish Rose for that bit of petulance.
1605: United are now out on the pitch and it looks like there'll be no changes just yet for either side. County will be getting us underway for the second-half.
1602: The County players have been out doing some warm-ups for a good three minutes or so. Still no sign of the United players or the officials though.
1559: Michael Bridges has just come on the pitch having spent most the half-time break in the changing room with the starting XI players. Wonder if we'll be seeing him sooner rather than later?
1550: It's snow-joke for United at the break as Dominic Blizzard's 6th minute strike gives the visitors a lead. It's been a fairly even game so far, with County looking dangerous on the break and United having some joy down the wings. The County defence looks a little shakey on cross and so Abbott will no doubt be looking for his players to get the ball out wide to Taylor and Neal in the second-half. That said, they've had enough chances in the first-half to have gone in level. I'll be back soon for the second-half.
HALF-TIME - Carlisle United 0 Stockport County 1 (Blizzard 6)
45+1 mins: There'll be a minimum of two minutes added time at the end of the first-half. Meanwhile, O F Williams seems to be taking considerable time with every goal-kick. The ref is starting to lose a bit of patience with him.
45 mins: Kane sends Taylor away down the right again and he clips in a cross that Anyinsah flicks towards goal but it goes over the bar. Good effort.
43 mins: Good break down the right by Anyinsah and Neal. It's Neal who takes it on and beats several men before playing it to Kane. He knocks it wide to Taylor who sends in an inviting cross that Graham can't get full contact on and it goes out for a goal-kick at the far post. Probably should have been the equaliser.
41 mins: Poor attempt at the offside trap by the United defence and both O'Grady and Johnson are clear through on goal. Johnson takes it and only has B Williams to beat but he gets down to make a great save, with Murphy completing the clearance.
39 mins: United break down the left with Neal and he lays it off for Horwood. He sends in a dangerous low cross but it's cleared off a United player by a County defender.
38 mins: Kav takes a long-throw from the right that's easily cleared. It falls to Peter Murphy 35 yards out and he sends in a volley but slices it well wide of O F Williams' goal.
33 mins: United win a corner on the left and Neal sends in a left-footed outswinger. O F Williams comes for it but doens't get a clean punch and it takes a defender to get the ball out for a throw-in. Looks like O F Williams and another Stockport player took a knock in that corner as the physio has to come on to treat them. Looks like they're both ok though.
31 mins: All those goals have gone to Paul Thirlwell's head. United break down the right after a great ball over the top by Kav. Graham volleys the ball in and the defender gets a looping header away just before Anyinsah can get to it. It falls to Thirlwell and he lines up a volley but hits it well wide of the goal. The ref then has a word with him for an earlier challenge.
28 mins: Graham wins United another free-kick on the right. This time Neal takes it and he whips it in with pace and O F Williams just about punches it clear. From the follow-up, Taylor's cross hits a defender and goes out for a corner. Neal whips that one in with pace and again O F Williams punches it away from danger. The Welsh U-21 keeper doesn't look too confident about catching crosses so far.
26 mins: Stockport win their first corner of the game as Neal blocks a Mullins cross on the right. It's taken by Rowe, and B Williams tries to come for it but is blocked by a combination of defenders and attackers and O'Grady gets on the end of it and it clips the top of the bar and goes over.
25 mins: United battle for the ball in midfield and it comes to Anyinsah. He runs at the defence before smashing a shot straight at a defender. The ball is cleared by a County defender but falls straight to Taylor, who comes inside and lofts in a left-wing cross but no-one's there and it goes out for a goal-kick.
21 mins: United break on the counter and Kav sends Cleveland clear on the right. He beats his man and sends in a cross that's deflected up in the air. The County defence struggle to clear it but eventually get the ball out after a bit of a scramble.
18 mins: United win a free-kick on the right which Kav whips in to the box. The original ball is just about cleared to Taylor, who twists and turns before sending in a wicked ball that the County defence just about scramble clear, with Graham waiting to head in from a few yards out.
15 mins: B Williams to the rescue again. He comes out and makes sure he gets to the ball first as a Stockport forward bares down on him.
12 mins: Kavn lays off the free-kick for Graham but he drags his shot a foot wide of O F Williams' post.
11 mins: Graham almost plays Neal through with a great ball but the defender just intercepts it. Just seconds later, Anyinsah is hauled down on the edge of the box and it's a free-kick to United. Looks like Kav or Graham to take it.
9 mins: The United defence are almost caught napping. A ball is played over the top and O'Grady is offside but he doesn't go for it. Oli Johnson does though and it takes the alertness of B Williams to clear the ball to safety.
6 mins: GOAL! Carlisle United 0 Stockport County 1 (Blizzard) - After dominating the opening few minutes, it's County that take the lead. United look comfortable on the left but lose possession. Blizzard is played away down the right and just gets to the ball before Keogh. He runs at the last man before unleashing a shot from 25 yards that loops over B Williams and in to the net. Difficult to tell but it might have taken a deflection. B Williams had no chance with that one.
5 mins: Stockport County are on the attack but Keogh intercepts a pass well and plays the ball to Anyinsah. He turns his man well and is away down the left. He runs into the box but can only hit his cross against a defender and out for a corner. The kick is taken short by Kav to Lewis Neal who gives him the ball back but his shot just inside the box is well wide.
2 min: United win a corner on the right which is lofted in by Kav. Charging into the box is Richard Keogh and he sends a header just wide of OF Williams' right hand post. Just to avoid confusion between the two Williams goalkeepers today, Stockport's will be referred to as "OF Williams", with United's referred to as "B Williams". Just as well Derek Lacey is on his holidays this week!
1 min: Cleveland wins an earlier free-kick on the right for United. It's knocked into the box by Kavanagh but is cleared back to him. His second cross is cleared again, this time for a throw. Good start from United.
1502: United will be kicking off and will be attacking the Waterworks End in the first-half. Paul Thirlwell and Joe Anyinsah get the game underway.
1459: One Step Beyond bellows out of the tannoy and the two teams walk on to the pitch. No news on that fourth official announcement but I presume it's been sorted now! Quite fancy a few goals to be scored in todays game. I hope that doesn't tempt fate and it's a bore draw!
1454: Uh-oh, could this be a problem? Dunno's just made an announcement on the tannoy asking if any qualified fourth officials are available and if so, to make their way to the reception!
1452: On the subject of the Youth Team, they lost 2-0 to Wigan Athletic at Creighton Rugby Club this morning. That defeat is their first in the league since the start of the season against Burnley, and incredible run to go on. Full reaction will appear here on the official site from Eric Kinder at some point this weekend.
1450: A few bits of news to keep you busy before kick-off. Tom Aldred's season just keeps getting better. He's now been called up for Scotland's U-19 squad to face their French counterparts on Wednesday. The Youth Team captain attended a training camp in Glasgow before Christmas and must have impressed the Scotland coaching staff whilst there. Read more about it by clicking here.
1446: Today's referee is a Mr Steve Bratt from the West Midlands. It's his first ever visit to Brunton Park but not the first time he's been in charge of a match involving United. The last time that happened was in February 2007 when the Blues travelled to the Keepmoat Stadium to take on Doncaster Rovers. That game ended in a 2-1 win for the Blues, with both goals being absolute belters from Jeff Smith and Karl Hawley. The only booking that day was for United's Paul Thirlwell. He'll be assisted by Paul Davison and Bob Roberts, with Dave McCallum taking up fourth official duties.
1436: A bit of a connection between the two goalkeepers today, both have the surname Williams and they were team mates last season at Crewe Alexandra last season. Both Ben and Owain Fon turned down new deals at the Railwaymen and as a result ended up at Brunton Park and Edgeley Park respectively. Both will be looking to impress today and keep a clean sheet.
1425: One United player reaching a landmark today is Danny Graham, who makes his 100th appearance for the club in all competitions. The ex-Middlesbrough forward will no doubt be looking to cap his afternoon off with his first goal in five games. Maybe he'll fancy going in nets as back-up keeper too?
1423: So for United it's the same starting XI that beat Brighton 2-0 at the Withdean Stadium last week. Returning to the bench are David Raven and Scott Dobie, at the expense of Gary Madine and Chris Howarth. The absence of Howarth means United have no keeper on the bench. Hopefully nothing will happen to Ben Williams, but I wonder who would take his place if something did?
1421: Team sheets have arrived in the press box so here's the line-ups for you:
Carlisle: Williams, Kane, Horwood, Keogh, Murphy, Taylor, Thirlwell (captain), Kavanagh, Neal, Anyinsah, Graham. Subs: Raven, Lumsdon, Bridges, Dobie, Liddle.
Stockport: Williams, Mullins (captain), Rose, Blizzard, O'Grady, Dicker, Rowe, Tunnicliffe, McNeil, Mainwaring, Johnson. Subs: Turnbull, Rigby, Tansey, Thompson, Vincent.
1415: Good afternoon United fans across the world and welcome to this afternoon's Min by Min coverage for the home match against Stockport County. United suffered a 3-0 defeat in a pretty one-sided game at County's Edgeley Park back in November that spelled the end of John Ward's time in charge at the club. This time Greg Abbott will be leading his side against the Hatters and they'll be a lot more confident of getting a result from the game. More from me shortly, including the team news as soon as we get it!
