Carlisle United can confirm that a bid for midfielder Simon Hackney, from Colchester United, has been turned down this week.

The U's initially asked for the 25-year-old left winger on a season long loan deal, and came back with the five-figure bid when that request was rebuffed.

Managing Director John Nixon said: "Colchester have now made two enquiries about Simon Hackney, but both have been turned down.

"He is clearly a player that they like, but we had no hesitation in turning the enquiries away."
