1659: So that's it for this afternoon's M-B-M report. Has United's luck finally changed with Gary Madine's late equaliser? Greg Abbott will certainly know he has plenty more to think about after today's game. I'll be back for next week's game against Brighton and Hove Albion, as Glenn Murray returns to Brunton Park with the Seagulls.
1658: The Grays players are leaving the picture and are getting a good reception from the United fans. Deservedly so, they can consider themselves unlucky today.
1657: United left it late but they just about survive in the First Round of the FA Cup. For a team struggling at the bottom of the Blue Square Premier, Grays certainly put up a good account of themselves and passed the ball about nicely at times. United keeper Ben Williams had an encouraging performance, making a number of good saves whilst his opposite number Button had little to do.
FULL TIME - Carlisle United 1 (Madine 84) Grays Athletic 1 (Stuart 52) 93 mins: A long kick from Williams is flicked on by Danny Graham, but Madine can't quite get on the end of it.
91 mins: Madine's flick down from a Jeff Smith punt is picked up by Kav and he's brought down but the ref says no pen. Looked the right decision from up here.
90 mins: 3 minutes of time added on by the referee. Another change for Grays, Welsh coming off for Hickie (stop laughing, it's not that funny of a name).
89 mins: Almost a spectacular winner for United. Gary Madine chests the ball down and plays a lovely lay off for MBW and his half volley goes just over the bar.
87 mins: United have another corner, their seventh of the game, but it's claimed well by Button, who has looked very confident today despite rarely being tested.
85 mins: Predictably, a bit of urgency has returned to Grays' play, who were quite happy to wind down the clock until United's equaliser.
84 mins: GOAL! Carlisle United 1 Grays Athletic 1 - A Grays defender gives away a needless free-kick by the corner flag infront of the East Stand. It's whipped in by Kav and
Gary Madine rises highest to head home from six yards out.
83 mins: A Cleveland Taylor cross is headed out for a corner. The resulting corner lands at the feet of Madine but his first and second shot are both blocked. Grays are throwing themselves at everything.
82 mins: The small band of Grays supporters in the CBS Stand are in good voice and who can blame them. This could be a huge result for them.
78 mins: The game has got very scrapy again. Grays appear happy to settle with the 1-0 lead and are now defending very deep. United so far unable to break them down.
73 mins: UNITED SUBSTITUTION - Evan Horwood off for United, with Jeff Smith coming on his place. Looks like Jazzy Jeff will slot straight in at left-back.
69 mins: Today's attendance is 3,921.
68 mins: A couple of changes for Grays that I missed earlier, Stuart Elliot on for Gavyn Dayes and Fabian Wilnis off for Kenny Davies.
67 mins: Cleveland Taylor wins a free-kick on the right which is played in by Kav and Livesey's clever overhead flick goes just wide of the right-hand post. Button still hasn't had a real save to make for Grays.
66 mins: Horwood loses possession in the Grays half and the Gravelmen break upfield. Ishmael Welsh twists and turns before sending a shot towards the top corner but it's superbly saved by Ben Williams. The corner from Thurgood misses everyone and goes out for a United throw.
64 mins: United break down the left, with neat play between Gary Madine and Simon Hackney's but the latter has a shot that's straight at Button.
61 mins: United have the ball in the back of the net but it doesn't count. Raven's cross is met in the middle by Hackney but he's flagged offside. Looked marginal from up here at the back of the Main Stand.
60 mins: Cleveland gets into the game straight away. He's setup by Kav but his cross is just headed away by a Grays defender for a corner. The resulting corner from Kav is too long, but Danny Livesey manages to win a throw-in by the corner flag. From the throw, confusion in the Grays box almost setups up Madine but Button quickly spots the danger.
58 mins: UNITED SUBSTITUTION - Myrie-Williams' game is over and he's replaced by Cleveland Taylor, who slots straight into the right-wing position. A minute later, Gary Madine comes on for John Welsh. United are switching back to 4-4-2 in an attempt to get back into the game.
57 mins: A chance for United, as Raven's long cross is headed back across by Hackney but it hits a Grays defender and is comfortable for Button. Cleveland Taylor is getting ready to come on for United.
53 mins: Grays, encouraging by taking the lead, break forward again, but McCollin's shot drifts harmlessly wide. At the other end, MBW has a shot from 30 yards but it's easily saved by Button.
51 mins: GOAL - Carlisle United 0 Grays Athletic 1 - John Welsh concedes a free-kick just inside the United half. A long ball is sent forward that is headed back across goal for
Jamie Stuart to volley in totally unmarked from just six yards out. An encouraging start for United has turned bad pretty quickly.
49 mins: Good play again from United, with Kav releasing Hackney down the wing, but his cross isn't picked up by anyone and Raven's cross back in from the right is claimed by Button.
48 mins: United's best chance so far. JMW cuts in from the right-wing and sends a zipping shot just wide of Button's right-hand post. Much more encouraging from the on-loan Bristol City winger, who looks more comfortable already on the right-wing.
46 mins: United start brightly and break forward, but Kav's shot is deflected wide for a corner. Greg has obviously had a few words at half- time, as the players seem more up for it. Myrie-Williams now appears to be playing on the right-wing, with United reverting to 4-5-1.
SECOND HALF BEGINS 1607: Both teams are now back out on the pitch and Grays will get the second-half underway.
1606: United players are out already, still no sign of the Grays team.
1601: United keeper Ben Williams is out on the pitch already, warming up with keeper coach Dave Timmins. Another FA Cup score that may interest United fans is Barrow, who are drawing 0-0 with fellow Blue Square Premier side Eastbourne Borough.
1558: Some news from the other FA Cup games, Shrewsbury are out after a shock 3-1 defeat at Blyth Spartans. Longtime United target Grant Holt scored Shrewsbury's consolation goal and former United players Paul Murray and Stephen Hindmarch both picked up bookings for Paul Simpson's side. The only other real upset so far is at Curzon Ashton, where League Two side Exeter City are 1-0 down at half-time.
1551: The half-time whistle goes and the two-teams walk off. Not a great performance so far from either side but Grays will be by far the happier of the two-teams. In The City by The Jam is blaring over the tannoy as the subs come out to warm up, with seven possible changes available for either side.
HALF TIME 45 mins: A half-chance for Grays. United lose possession and McCollin is through one-on-one on Williams, but he's alert and slides out to clear the ball against McCollin and win a throw-in.
44 mins: Kav is flattened just inside the Grays half and wins a free-kick. He takes it himself but it's easily claimed by Button. It's been far too quiet of an afternoon so far for the on-loan Spurs keeper. One minute time added on for the first-half.
42 mins: Better from United. John Welsh wins the ball back and plays it to Graham on the left. He plays in Hackney whose low cross is well saved by Button.
40 mins: It really has become a scrappy game after an encouraging start. Neither team seems capable of holding on to possession for long periods. Just as I type, Hackney sends in a long ball to the far post but it misses everyone and is cleared by the Grays defence. Just about sums it up so far.
34 mins: A lovely bit of skill by Danny Graham sets up MBW, but he's tackled and wins a corner. It's played in to the near post but MBW has a fresh air shot. Despite this, it's another corner to United but after playing it about near the edge of the box, Hackney is flagged offside and the pressure is off Grays for now.
31 mins: Geir is back on the field, having had to change his shirt due to blood on his original one. A chance for Thurgood after United give away possession on the edge of their own area but it's just wide.
30 mins: Grays are temporarily down to ten men, with defender Rob Geir is receiving attention on the touchline for a head injury. United not managing to take advantage so far.
25 mins: Grays break again on the counter attack and win a corner. It's easily cleared by United by Danny Graham slices his kick into the Paddock. Starting to get a bit scrappy out there now.
22 mins: MBW wins a free-kick on the right-wing which is whipped in by Kav but punched away by Button with no real pressure being put on him.
19 mins: A slip by a Grays midfielder allows Danny Graham to sends JMW away, but his cross is deflected wide for a corner. The corner is played short by Kavanagh to Hackney, but his cross is well claimed by Grays keeper Button. Interestingly, Button is on-loan at Grays from Spurs who, unlike Ben Alnwick, gave permission to him to play today.
17 mins: United look like they've got a good attacking chance but John Welsh loses possession. McCollin breaks and manages to turn Gowling and get a shot away but it's saved well by Williams. Looks like McCollin is going to be a tricky customer for Danny and Josh today.
15 mins: Grays Athletic's nickname is the "Gravelmen". A few of the journos in the press box are hoping for a tight game so they can use a few grit related puns. No real action at the moment though United are knocking it about nicely. The ref is coming in for a bit of stick from the Paddock but nothing new there!
10 mins: First shot of the game but the tame effort from a Grays midfielder is easily claimed by Williams.
7 mins: United break on another counter-attack, this time it's JMW who feeds Hackney. He breezes past a Gray defender but can only send his shot wide. Hackney and JMW linking up well so far, the latter is definitely playing as a forward today.
6 mins: Greg Abbott is already prowling the touchline and encouraging his players. No sign of Boothy just yet.
4 mins: Josh Gowling is almost caught out at the back thanks to a lovely bit of skill by Grays' Andre McCollin, but he scuffs his shot well wide. A bright start from both sides.
3 mins: United break on the counter-attack, with Simon Hackney steaming away. He sets up JMW but the keeper closes him down and the ball goes for a corner. The corner results in nothing as Danny Livesey is penalised for a foul.
2 mins: A potential cup upset already today as Blyth Spartans are 2-0 up against former United boss Paul Simpson's Shrewsbury side.
1503: Danny Graham kicks off for United as the game gets underway. The Blues will be kicking towards the empty Warwick Road End in the first-half.
1459: Looks like today the two teams will be using a flourescent yellow ball for the first time this season. Maybe with a bit of snow in the next month or so we'll see the orange balls coming out.
1457: Brunton Park looks unusual today with both the stands behind the goals shut. The two teams are now coming out...
1455: Talk in the press box suggests that United are playing 4 -4-2, with Jennison Myrie-Williams up-front with Danny Graham.
1452: So just two changes for United, Jeff Smith dropping to the bench in place of Simon Hackney and Ben Williams in nets as Ben Alnwick does not have permission from Spurs to play in today's game. For Grays, former United midfielder Stuart Elliot is on the bench.
1451: Today's teams:
United - Williams, Raven, Gowling, Livesey, Horwood, Hackney, Bridge-Wilkinson, Kavanagh, Welsh, Myrie-Williams, Graham.
Subs - Howarth, Carlton, Joyce, Taylor, Keogh, Madine, J Smith.
Grays - Button, Geir, Stuart, Ashton, Dayes, Sloma, Welsh, Wilnis, Cogan, McCollin, Thurgood.
Subs - Elliott, Taylor, Arnold, Bailey, Hickie, Davis, Gray.
1447: Afternoon folks, apologies for the delay to starting this afternoon's min-by-min action, but I've been busy with other duties until now and was then delayed by laptop troubles! Some of the team news in just a minute.
