18-year-old Palace midfielder Ashley-Paul Robinson has joined United for a week long trial spell to give John Ward and his staff a chance to take a look at the highly rated teenager.

Robinson, a Palace Youth trainee, made 6 substitute appearances for The Eagles last season but is now available and allowed to find a new club should the opportunity arise.

The United boss said: "He's with us for a week, so we'll have a look at what he can do and we can take it from there. He's a young man who has played for the first team at Crystal Palace, so we've got him up here to see how he gets on with what we are doing. We're looking forward to working with him for the next seven days and then, as I say, we can look at what we want to do after that. It's possibly too early for him to play a part on Saturday, at Morecambe, and we'll have to look at how we want to do things at Workington on Monday before we make any kind of decision on that one, so we'll just have to wait and see as far as that is concerned."
