MIDFIELDER A DOUBT

Posted on: Mon 21 Jul 2008

United midfielder Chris Lumsdon is a major doubt ahead of the trip to Chester tomorrow night after struggling with painful back spasms over the weekend.

United Boss John Ward explained: "Chris was in pain on Saturday night, then again through Sunday, so we will have to wait and see if that settles down for him over the course of the next few days. He'll undergo treatment today, and we'll see where he is with that tomorrow morning. At the moment it's uncomfortable for him, but our physio will give us more of a steer once he has had a good look at him."

United travel to Chester for their third pre-season friendly of the summer having earned a 4-0 victory over Kendal and 0-0 draw with Partick Thistle in their first two outings.

The manager said: "The Partick game was a good one for us, but the grass was slightly too long for us to really get our passing game going. It was a test for us though, and that is exactly what we wanted when we went in to it. Fitness wise we were able to get some of our players 60 minutes or more, in some cases, and I will want to do the same for the game on Tuesday night. As I have said before, it's all about match fitness at this stage, and we're working nicely towards that. The Chester game gives us another opportunity to concentrate on that, and to start to get some of the sharpness back in to the things that we want to do."
